Avatar m tn I am so sorry that your Adhd went untreated for so many years but your story helps people like me realize that I am doing the right thing but season treat for my son now.
Avatar f tn These are all symptoms of untreated ADHD. If she is not already doing it, she will probably soon be self medicating. The urination is typically because the ADHDer gets hyperfocused and waits until it is too late. A set schedule of bathroom times can make a big difference. There is a huge amount that you and her mom need to know. Its hard really to know where to start. But, this is a pretty good overall link to start with. http://www.additudemag.com/resource-center/adhd-100-days.

Avatar n tn ADD / ADHD, Autism, mental focus, anxiety, depression, mood disorders. The green tea amino acid L Theanine is used as standard treatment in Japan for ADHD which is one way to boost dopamine without the side effects of chemicals. There are so many supplements on the market that boost neurotransmitters however. You can google each neurotransmitter to see what helps. I just chose dopamine and found this article....
Avatar n tn It is possible that your son has both ADHD and anxiety issues. However, it is common today for medical personnel to misdiagnose a child because the behaviours for some anxiety disorders and ADD/ADHD are very similar. Since the medication for ADHD is not working, I wonder if this could be the problem in your son's situation - he suffers from anxiety but not ADD/ADHD. Usually, the medication for anxiety is one of the SSRI's - non-habit-forming medications.
1541754 tn?1294331420 ADHD researchers have known for a long time that lots of adults with ADHD are heavy (often VERY heavy, actually) smokers. The drug in cigarette smoke, Nicotine,is a stimulant drug kind of like Dexedrine. So smoking is a way for people with ADHD to self-medicate their symptoms. Like Dexedrine, the nicotine you inhale in tobacco smoke makes you feel better; for example more alert and focussed and "calm" - less anxious, restless and impulsive and so on.
Avatar f tn t realize my depression was caused by untreated adhd symptoms. Once those were managed my quality of life increased exponentially.
Avatar n tn Yep, ADHD can really mess up ones life if untreated. Anxiety, depression, self-medication are fairly common and any one of those things can make life miserable. So first thought is that while meds can and will help, finding a good psychologist or psychiatrist who can help him deal with all these other issues is also very important. Medication wise - it all really depends on the individual and how they respond. But any med that will do any good will be done with a prescription.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm a 16 year old female and I've been diagnosed with ADHD for 7, going on 8 years. I've taken medication constantly throughout all these years and it's helped considerably. I've seen improvements in school and at home, but mostly in school. But I was wondering if ADHD can lead to other disorders or illnesses like anxiety, OCD, or depression or anything similar to those.
Avatar f tn If left untreated, the disorder can have long-term effects on a person s ability to function well in social situations and to do well at school or work. Over time, those with untreated ADD or ADHD can be at high risk for developing depression, anxiety disorders, or other emotional problems. Both ADD and ADHD are very complex conditions; an individual with either of the disorders may have very different symptoms than another person who has the same disorder.
Avatar n tn By the way, for untreated ADHD, the odds of self-medicating are much higher then a person who was treated with meds. Anyway, I have 5 very good links for you. The first three deal with adult ADHD and include a self test. The last 2 deal with anxiety and ADHD. If you do have ADHD, the last thing that you want the doc to do is to only treat the anxiety. That will not be treating the what could be the major cause of the problem. So definitely take you time to read these.
Avatar f tn My 15 yo son has been treated for ADHD for over 4 years and still continues to struggle and fail at school. Over this past year he has had a growth spurt but no weight gain. He is 5'8 1/2 and 98 pounds. Hes been withdrawn and very sluggish. I took him in to see his Dr and she lowered his ADHD medication and ordered labs. At that point his TSH was 6.08, said to recheck 2 months. I got him back for a second opinon after 2 weeks, and his TSH had gone up to 6.30.
Avatar f tn I have heard of ADHD symptoms, I heard that it is much more easier to have fights if you have ADHD also ADHD kids act mostly, hyper, either violent(Not all), Overreacting over mainly little things. Sometimes they wonder in there own world. Having Aspergers can be different in many ways, Aspergers is when your child is having emotional problems maybe even getting embarrassed, shy, difficult education maybe even speech problems.
Avatar f tn There is a lot that can be done - including seeing a professional (they should go as well to learn how to deal with it). ADHD is not something that you can let go untreated. It will only get worse as they are finding out. Having said that - he does have some symptoms of Sensory Processing Disorder. It looks a lot like ADHD, but is treated very differently (no meds). And it is many times overlooked by a professional. Check out this link and see if any of these things also fit him.
Avatar n tn I spent a couple years on the streets and I think all the time I have had untreated ADHD contributed to a lot of the bad luck I have had my entire life. Anyway my Doc gave me Strattera and the 3rd day on it I felt dizzy and confused, I felt over anxious and felt like I was loosing my mind. I had been on dexadrine years ago for depression after a hysterectomy at age 27 and I told him that my life came together on it but he gave me Strattera.
Avatar f tn My son has ADHD and if I gave him a task such as getting his dishes from the other room, he would find a million other things to do in between and never get the dishes. Does that sound like you? Also, untreated ADHD can make a person feel socially awkward. It's kind of hard to have a conversation with someone if you are thinking about something else. To be honest with you, I believe I have it as well since there is an ever ongoing dialog in my head.
Avatar f tn I would never assume that things are as good as they can get and you have to let your ADHD sx go untreated. Best wishes to you in your studies Rebecca Disclaimer: This post was written for educational purposes only. It is never intended to replace face to face psychological or medical care.
Avatar f tn Maybe ADHD? If she does have it, that's ok. There are a lot of options for her. Therapies, medicines, homeopathic treatments, etc. A lot of people have it, it's very common. My husband has it, he was diagnosed as a kid of about 6 or 7. His parents never got him into therapy or medications, totally against it. He is fine now, relatively speaking. Google "untreated ADHD or ADD" and you'll see the effects of leaving it untreated.
1390055 tn?1365615055 I used to take ADHD medication to manage my condition beginning when I was about 13 years old. I am now 23. I continued this for about 5 or 6 years, and then gradually came down off of my medications. I had been put on a number of different medications at different times to see which medication worked best for me, and we finally settled on taking Concerta, and did this so for about 3 or 4 years.
Avatar f tn I detoxed myself from opiate meds about a month ago and I thought things would get better. Nope. Now I feel very anxious and depressed. I also quit marijuana too. (was using it for appetite) I have an appt. w/ my shrink on Tues 2/28 and I'm not sure what to tell him??? "I'm lonely, depressed and very anxious and worried. I have ADHD too; untreated. I'm going to ask for treatment for it. I just roam around my apt. not wanting to do anything....TV.....
Avatar f tn No, its not autism. It probably has a lot to do with separation. I take it Mom is also not around, so that makes it even harder on him. There is also the possibility of ADHD if he is always moving (although 6 year old boys move a lot). I feel for you. At your age and probably fairly newly married, having a 6 year old around has gotta kinda change the way you imagined things. He probably also senses that. So he has a lot of strikes going against him. Work with the school.
Avatar f tn Been there! ADHD medications benefit more than just ADHD. I have never had ADHD but I had the brain fog so much my doc recommended it. It has changed my life! Although he is very young for medication!!!!!
Avatar m tn Is it possible that untreated ADHD got me into this mess, and if indeed i do have ADHD and treat it with medication, will it improve my situation(i will be less anxious in certain conditions because my mind would slow down and think more organised,i would be less agitated, less impulsive,i would procrastinate less, improve my depression)?
