597354 tn?1227197932 The doctor was very concerned then about my grandson who is almost 5 and said we need to keep an eye on him. He has been diagnosed already with ADHD and is on meds for it (i hate that). My question is - do children have thyroid problems that young or is it usually later in life? It may sound like a stupid question to some people but I really don't know and I haven't had time to research it. I didn't really even consider that he could have a problem at such a young age.
Avatar f tn The problem with really intelligent kids is that they problem solve so fast. And the problem with 4 year olds is that they don't have alot of self control. Put it together and ya - you've got problems. Throw the possibility of ADHD into the mix and everything gets a lot worse. I really don't know if he has ADHD. How long ago did the doctors see him and what kind of a doctor saw him?
Avatar n tn I watched a Lifetime segment about a new device, called the Quotient ADHD System, which can objectively test for ADHD by measuring motion and attention parameters in children and adults. Has anyone heard of this device? Here is a link to the video http://bit.
Avatar n tn If the book Dr. Kennedy doesn't work I would have her evaluated for ADD/ADHD. By taking her to a physcatrist that deals w/ ADD & doing a test to rule it out. If it's ruled out wonderful. If she does have ADD/ADHD then the correct behavioral modification can be used. The consequences aren't always handled the same. & also diet can have a lot to do w/ behavior. A lot of times people don't think of ADD for issues like this, but ADD has many different symptoms.
5757880 tn?1395578022 Several controlled double-blind studies suggest that these might be important for a minority of children with ADHD, and a couple of controlled studies suggest a small effect on all children whether or not they have ADHD." http://www.chadd.org/Understanding-ADHD/Causes-and-Brain-Chemistry.
Avatar n tn In my humble opinion in one hand you have an issue w. ADHD and in the other you have a situ where the doc is obviously very concerned for daughter and is trying to protect her thru the meds. Every situ is different depending on the medical hx. of the person as well as what is currently going on with them...i would never in a million years chance it with my kids life....
Avatar f tn The duration and intensity of physical outbursts and temper tantrums differs in the two disorders. Children who are ADHD usually calm down in twenty to thirty minutes, whereas children who are bipolar may continue to feel and act angry for up to four hours. 3. The degree of “regression” during angry episodes is typically more severe for children who are bipolar.
Avatar f tn The moods of children who have ADHD or bipolar disorder may change quickly, but children with ADHD do not generally show dysphoria (depression) as a predominant symptom. Irritability is particularly prominent in children who are bipolar, especially in the morning on arousal.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had any success/experience with neurofeedback/biofeedback for ADHD?
Avatar m tn It does have a lot to do with a child who seems to have the symptoms, but does not have ADHD - just a profound lack of structure. One reason that for ADHD to be diagnosed, it has to be present in more then just the home setting. Hope this helps answer your question. If your parents happen to need some links to sites that have good suggestions on ways to help your little bro - you know where to find me. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn has prescribed him Celexa for the OCD/Anxiety disorder. I have read that this medication is not recommended in children. Is it safe for him to take this medication? Or is there anywhere I can look for information on the use of this medication in children?
Avatar n tn First, I never suggested drugs. I said, " If you want to really help your child - find a child psychologist who specializes in ADHD and get their advice." Then I said, "read up on ADHD and find out what it is all about." There are a lot of suggestions that I could give him on helping children with ADHD, since I have probably 300 posts on this subject on this forum, but I kind of got sidetracked by your comments.
Avatar n tn m just sharing the difficult experience I had getting a proper diagnosis for bright children with ADHD. (Meds unfortunately, seems quite easy to get without a thorough diagnosis from our experience) His teachers are in complete shock since it had never occured to them he might have been ADHD.... they thought he was just being difficult and a pain.
193137 tn?1367880063 My stepson has been on Metadate 20mg for ADD, for close to a year and his math AND reading seem to have gone downhill since starting the medication. We had to put him in tutoring so he could pass his 3rd grade TAKS test for both subjects. Maybe he's just the exception...at least I hope so for the future of all children out there suffering from ADD.
1614250 tn?1298449081 Kelly is right in saying boundaries need to be set now and I think they are really important when a child has something like ADHD to cope with too As for the masturbating....well he is a 14 year old boy and I would think this is pretty common. So long as he is doing this privately then that is really his business.
1159468 tn?1262622454 Because there is a lot of things out there that are missed and children are just giving drugs for add or adhd and even bipolar.when they really have something else .
Avatar n tn While some physicians diagnosis on the basis of a quick interview, and some use symptom checklists, the most responsible way to determine if a child has ADHD is to refer him for psychological or neuropsychological assessment. ADHD is frequently diagnosed by the presence of symptoms, yet it is important to note that symptoms such as impulsivity or forgetfulness can also be caused by anxiety, depression, or other factors.
Avatar f tn Food supplement treatment of ADHD may be of equal efficacy to Ritalin, All children especially those with learnin g difficulties, benefit from a Multiple vitamin-mineralsupplement with anti oxidants ,B Complex and Vit C fish oil has also shown to be useful..this was shown in recent studies by experts.
Avatar m tn Concerta is a amphetamine based drug, basically speed. I adopted a boy, where his bio-logical father was labeled Schizophrenic, and his bio had alcohol and pharmaceutical drug dependencies. The Pediatrician issued a prescription of Concerta to him, and it has a "black box" warning by the FDA, specifically stating do not administer this to patients with alcohol or drug abuse history, and it is "not" a cure for ADHD.
7087196 tn?1389306119 //www.medhelp.org/posts/ADD---ADHD/nightares-and-adhd-/show/1341324#post_6131310 Am surprised that Risperdal is indicated for ADHD. I can find nothing online that would agree with that. However, it certainly would work for anxiety which is a common disorder of ADHD. And I do read that it makes some of the other meds more effective. But, I still think it is being used mainly to treat the bipolar problem.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if there is anyone out there dealing with children concerning bipolar. I have 7 year old grandson that is om foclin but has stomach problems and recently the diagnosis is leaning more toward bipolar and has been put on a mood stabilizer tryleptal 300mg half in the morning and a whole pill at night. Anyone with any information please share with a concerned grandmother.
Avatar n tn That is why your doctor probably told you to read the information about ADHD. Many parents of ADHD children have a hard time deciding to medicate their children for ADHD. I do not believe that there are any medications for PDD-Nos or Autism, unless the person with PDD-Nos or Autism also has ADHD. About 40% of children with ADHD outgrow their ADHD symptoms around puberty. I believe that most people with PDD do not outgrow their diagnosis.
