427258 tn?1266445242 My (very soon to be) 4 y/o old is going through evaluations to diagnose a possible learning disability since he's exhibited some concerns in pre-school. The evaluator has said she's sure he has ADHD, but also shows some traits of a child with asperger's syndrome (sp). Since at this time, ADHD is the only 'definitive' diagnosis, I was wondering if some one could tell me some webistes, or books they have read to help them understand it all and how to help my son.
Avatar n tn My so has been diagnosis with ADHD has been on Med for two plus years, but this think pooping in his pants just came about, about six months ago. The strange think is that he will walk around like he doesn't smell anything.
Avatar f tn Yes. He is in therapy and has been since he was 3. He is in mainstream school. He tested as gifted. But he has ADHD. OCD and ODD. This behavior is new and I don't know how to help him stop or even why he does it.
Avatar f tn We thought toddlers had it easy. No bills to pay, no bosses to please--just ice cream and a little mischief on the brain. But America's tiniest citizens, some still in diapers, are now the newest members of the Ritalin and Prozac nation.
Avatar n tn He climbs on everything i tell him to stop or send him to his room for a time out for jumping on the couch but he continues to as soon as hes out. I have had some concerns of ADHD, but i still need some advice on how to deal with him.
Avatar f tn , six or seven years of age), because until that time most of the behaviours exhibited by children with ADHD are typical of all children in the preschool years. (They may be more severe in preschoolers who have ADHD, but since some kids who are highly active in their preschool years definitely don't have ADHD, it's better to wait.) A lot of what you are describing is typical toddler behaviour - defiance, ignoring "no", climbing all over things, etc.

Avatar n tn Hi there, I have been having problems with rib pain for about a year now. I realized it when the kids (both preschoolers) would bump into me. It doesn't seem to be that chondritis that's localized to just the sternum area-- i think that's called chostochondritis. My whole rib cage, front and back, collarbones, and hips seem to ache when I apply pressure to them.
602796 tn?1219873465 Every child tested for this has some symptoms. The key is in the degree and severity of it. Some children do have ADD/ADHD and need help. As a teacher, I have seen children medicated that did not need it and children NOT medicated that did need it. Teachers are certainly not doctors, but neither are mothers. Teachers are educated professionals capable of dealing with an active, spirited child on a daily basis. No teacher wants to see a lifeless child medicated beyond interaction.
Avatar m tn t tell - there were at least two preschoolers left completely alone (sounds like three preschoolers actually) with no supervision? Good thing they're all still alive. I wouldn't label any of them having "mental issues", but would consider calling CPS on parents who "nap" while children are running around playing doctor in the bathtub.
Avatar n tn Your son may well display ADHD, but it is important to arrange a thorough evaluation and not rush too quickly to the diagnosis. The on-line surveys can be useful tools to see if a person might display symptoms typical of ADHD, but a thorough assessment will consider a child's medical history, family history, current functioning at home and in school, possible alternative explanations for the symptoms identified on the surveys, etc.
327385 tn?1378360731 Sounds like your talking about my daughter, and she has ADHD. They started her off on Adderal XR, but she is now on Vyvance (sp). She did and does all the things you have listed, including the stealing and not knowing why. Your best bet is to try and find a peds doctor that specializes in ADD/ADHD. If she is found to have ADHD, so of the things she does might not go away, like the stealing.
Avatar f tn There are better ways to control the symptoms such as cognitive behavioral therapy (I have seen this in person because I volunteered for a while at a center for children with autism, constructive behavioral therapy was how they were helped). Adhd can be over diagnosed and although I do know some adults with adhd who have benefited from medication given the severe side effects of some current treatment it should be used with caution in young people.
Avatar f tn Hi! Oh boy do you have your hands full with this challenging job! Hats off to you for undertaking it and best wishes for success in helping these kids. It is hard work getting kids on track at times, isn't it? But I'm with you all the way that it is important. I don't know what your city and state have in place for early intervention programs. Many preschools in my area have grants that pay for various services for children that qualify.
Avatar f tn I hate to tell you this, but it sure sounds like pregnancy to me.
Avatar m tn By the way, I have seen several studies that show that sleep apnea can produce ADHD like symptoms. In fact, there have been several posters on here that have had sleep apnea, been treated and their daytime behaviors definitely changed. Has anybody ever commented about you snoring or breathing loud at night? "Regardless of type, an individual with sleep apnea is rarely aware of having difficulty breathing, even upon awakening.
571167 tn?1223214465 i THINK MY SON HAS ADHD. HOW DO U KNOW FOR SURE? ALOT OF HIS ACTIONS TELL ME HE DOES? WHAT R SOME OF THE MAIN KEY SIGNS?? ANY HELP WILL HELP!!
Avatar f tn In short, adhd symptoms. There was a reason why you started Vyvanse, and as you are now stopping it...those reasons are coming back. If you have not done so....you need to read up on Ankylosis Sponilytis. It is a condition that will slowly get worse. And I am not sure that a muscle relaxer is recommended treatment. See - https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/ankylosing-spondylitis/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20354813 . And a muscle relaxer is certainly only short term treatment.
Avatar f tn But when inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsive behavior are the norm for a child, it may be a sign of ADHD. ADHD can lead to problems at home and at school, with family, teachers, and peers, so it’s important to identify the symptoms and get help.
Avatar f tn Depression and Anxiety are very common co-disorders of ADHD. And sometimes the bipolar diagnosis is not true due to the other symptoms. So its always worth taking a look at the difference between the two. Here are a couple of links for that. http://www.currentpsychiatry.com/home/article/adhd-or-bipolar-disorder-age-specific-manic-symptoms-are-key/2e1d5ec4615c5b9da40d435fca5f560c.html http://www.additudemag.com/adhd/article/2511.
Avatar f tn "Treatment starts with controlling adhd symptoms." When a childs adhd symptoms "are reduced there usually is an improvement in ODD symptoms. Stimulant medications have been shown to decrease adhd symptoms, as well as those of ODD, by up to 50%." In my opinion, the doctors have been not dealing with the cause of her ODD. Nothing you have stated is really recommended to treat adhd. My recommendation for a good adhd medication starts with a good doctor.
Avatar n tn My 4 year old son is so terrible, i know your not suppose to say that and i dont say that to him of course. He got dignosed with adhd and it took four trys until we found one that worked the best. But all he does is act up badly. Its so bad my mother will not take him anymore. Avatar f tn It can have symptoms very similar to ADHD but is treated very differently. A great site I have found for information on this is here - http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/sensory-processing-disorder-checklist.html So those are the quick thoughts. I would definitely look at the SIDS site because you do treat that differently from ADHD. and he could have both. What is distressing to me is that he could have ADHD and the only help the doctors gave you is to prescribe meds?
