Avatar f tn It is well known that vitamin B12 deficiency causes developmental delay and brain atrophy in infants and children. This has been reported in medical journals and texts since the 1960’s. The medical community (pediatricians, neurologists) is not routinely checking children who present with the first concern of developmental delay for B12 deficiency which is problematic and a clinical error.

Avatar n tn The enzymes in saliva also help break down the carbohydrates in food, operating as a head start in the digestive process. In addition, saliva is a natural intestinal lubricant: Infants commonly suffer from gastroesophageal reflux (regurgitation of the acidic stomach contents into the esophagus); saliva lubricates the lining of the esophagus and helps neutralize the acidity. It also contains a healthy substance called epidural growth factor, which helps the intestinal lining mature.
1361044 tn?1277598308 Honestly, in my opinion, babies are so wrapped up in this new world, all the new things going in for them, that a little cold (virus) hardly slows them down. it could be your baby is behind because she doesn't feel well all the time, and THAT is holding her back. Maybe not, but in either case I would push for them to figure it out. Chalking it all down to a virus is a lazy, sorry excuse. My point is, YOU DO know your child more than anyone.
Avatar f tn All of the things that you have listed - I have seen in ADHD kids. What you need to do is to start to research what ADHD is and how to deal with the consequences of it. Understanding ADHD really makes a big difference in how you deal with the child. I mentioned the following books in a post below. Its worth your time to check them out. - "ADHD and Me, What I learned from lighting fires at the dinner table," by Blake Taylor.
Avatar n tn Your son may well display ADHD, but it is important to arrange a thorough evaluation and not rush too quickly to the diagnosis. The on-line surveys can be useful tools to see if a person might display symptoms typical of ADHD, but a thorough assessment will consider a child's medical history, family history, current functioning at home and in school, possible alternative explanations for the symptoms identified on the surveys, etc.
Avatar f tn I feel Gerd and milk allergy are grossly overdiagnosed in infants. Lactose overload has been diagnosed in breast-fed infants now - and I believe it is also found in babies.
327385 tn?1378360731 Your best bet is to try and find a peds doctor that specializes in ADD/ADHD. If she is found to have ADHD, so of the things she does might not go away, like the stealing. For me the last straw was when my daughter vandalized the neighbors boat, he wouldn't call the cops, so I did....she has stolen or vandalized a thing since. The only way I can describe my child with ADHD is like Pinocchio without the Jimmy Cricket (the little cricket telling him not to do bad things).
Avatar m tn its less overwhelming to the ADHD person also. Hang in thers and if you happen to kive in So Cal. Check out Loma Linda BHI. Its amazing and your insurance ahould pay for the program.

Avatar f tn The physical activity is one of the ways that you treat sensory integration disorder---------- it calms the nervous system. In the evening, what about pushing him in a swing for a while. This will calm him down as that linear motion is good for the nervous system. Have him try to blow bubbles (out of the bottle with a wand) -------- those deep breaths also slow down the nervous system. Deep pressure is great for some kids.
5274485 tn?1385860167 The symptoms are clinical the same for both boys and girls. My own experience in meeting girls with autism spectrum disorders confirm the clinical view; I have yet to find a girl with autism spectrum disorder who differ from my self and other boys with autism spectrum disorder I know in talk of symptoms.
Avatar f tn Also, while the neurology department diagnosed him with CP, they just referred us to the orthopedic for treatment, so his treating doctor at the hospital is not a neurologist. Could these symptoms be evident of a progression in his illness or are they even relevent? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I really feel in the dark on this subject and at a real loss living so far from anyone who specializes in it.
Avatar f tn Looking back from age 68 now, I would say that the ADHD has pretty well maintained the same level. Lately, however, additional symptoms are creeping in, and it is not easy to determine whether they are due to my advancing years or to an increase in attention deficit. I am referring to greater difficulty focusing on reading and listening. I also struggle now with remembering names, appointments, the content of conversations etc.
Avatar f tn For the past week I've been feeling naucious , and when I wake up in the morning I get light headed . The smell of some things make me sick , im only 16 . Need to remind you that I stopped taking my AdHd meds . I'm also on birth control . What can this be??
Avatar m tn By the way, I have seen several studies that show that sleep apnea can produce ADHD like symptoms. In fact, there have been several posters on here that have had sleep apnea, been treated and their daytime behaviors definitely changed. Has anybody ever commented about you snoring or breathing loud at night? "Regardless of type, an individual with sleep apnea is rarely aware of having difficulty breathing, even upon awakening.
Avatar f tn My daughter will be 9 in June and was diagnosed with ADHD in second grade. I was skeptical of the dissorder at first, and after trying behavior therapy and working with the school, decided to allow her to be on vyvanse. The medication works great with helping her to focus, but ever since she started taking it she has lost weight and now has become obsessed with biting her finger nails and skin around her nails.
