Common Questions and Answers about Adhd symptoms in infants

adhd

My 7-year old son is taking Adderall for ADHD. We have had good results with the drug. However, sometimes he is still too hyper. My doctor prescribed him Mellaril. I have been searching the net and do not find this drug associated with ADHD. I can find general side effects, but cannot find them pertaining to children. I also want to know how safe this drug is and about the long term effects. My doctor says it is safe even for infants. My son was put on Clonidine first before Mellaril.
He sounds like a very sweet little guy. But I would be prepared for a diagnosis of ADHD, really. His symptoms sound classic, and for him to come to the attention of TWO separate preschools, with behaviors that are so far out of the norm that they call and tell you, that's pretty telling. My oldest was exactly like that, and although you cry a lot at first, he's a terrific guy. Sweet natured, smart, delightful.
We did find out my son had ADHD a few yrs back, he is 9 now, although im not to sure how much i believe in this disorder, i was hyper as a child myself, and did not need to be medicated, I am still an active adult (when I am not prego, lol). I wont medicate him either. We control his hyperness through diet.
I think most people who come in here have children or had Children who have ADD,ADHD. And we come in to tell what has happen to our Child and what you might try to do to help your Child. I know how hard it is ,and still know how hard it is for everyone .But I will never put any of my Children on these drugs after what has happen to my youngest son after being on these drugs.
Quick background: I have ADHD and 3 children with ADHD. I have had TONS of experience with ADHD. The three children all have very different "manifestations" of ADHD symptoms. I have read, and researched, I have controlled their diets (no aritificials, etc.), and we seemed to have settled on the appropriate medications for each child, with occasional adjustments in dose. Until late last year.
Okay, my 2yr daughter had a real bad virus. Cold sores all in mouth and couldn't eat. Anyway, doctor gave us some APAP/CODEINE for her to take. Here's my question...She was on this for about 7 days, 3/4 tsp every four hours. She hasn't had any since last night at 11pm. She has been awful today, complaining that everything hurts and asking for medicine. Fussy, lots of crying and whining. Is this just a bit of withdrawl since she was on it for a week??
Fatigue, my legs have knots, I have headaches days on end. If you touch my hair it hurts. These symptoms can not all be in my head(so to speak). I have joint and body pain all the time. I work on a computer all day 8 hrs or more, I think my headaches and fatigue may be related to my work. I take additional supplements daily and have for about 1 year. Has anyone else had the same symptoms along with the indentions and have they increased in size?
I will ask doc about RSV, did your baby have any symptoms during the fevers? Thanks in advance for any help.

I I'm 4 weeks pregnant and I have severe ADHD and I'm currently in school. I can't make it through my classes without having an anxiety attack unless I have my medication. Is it safe to continue to take?
Agree with the above. Definitely has symptoms of ADHD, so I would start with that.
We have seen patients with systemic lupus become asymptotic, once taken off diet sodas. In cases of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, most of the symptoms disappear. We've seen many cases where vision loss returned and hearing loss improved markedly. This also applies to cases of tinnitus and fibromyalgia.

The Journal of Pediatrics has published a new tool for screening one-year-olds for early signs of developmental delays--including symptoms and behaviors consistent with Autism. Autism is a developmental delay that impacts children's language, social functioning, play, learning, and behaviors. Since Autism varies so much in severity, clinicians refer to it as a 'spectrum disorder' (you may hear the term Autism and Autistic Spectrum Disorder used interchangeably in news stories).
In 1961, I published my findings on 50 of my chronic complaining patients in Pediatrics. Their symptoms included fatigue, irritability, nasal congestion, short attention span, headache, stomachache and leg ache. Some of these children had other complaints including bed-wetting and soiling. All the children in my report improved when they avoided several of their common foods. Milk led the list of offenders.

My 8 year old stepson has ADHD. when he moved in with us we put him on fish oil and attentive child (from GNC) they both helped immensely with the hyperactivity but not enough with the attention side of it. There was some talk a few weeks back here in Australia that childrens immunizations leaned towards causing ADHD and in children. I tend to believe some of the studies they have done.
com/health/autism-treatment/AN01519) that any diet improves or worsens the symptoms of autism spectrum disorders. In fact, whole grains and dairy products are an important part of a healthy diet for most children. “Food allergies are like Iran and Iraq. Glial cells (they’re like chef cell) provide food to the neuron kings. Glial cells can turn into Rambo to fight Iran and Iraq. If a child is allergic to everything, the Rambo cells stop feeding the neurons and the neurons starve.
Adhd can be over diagnosed and although I do know some adults with adhd who have benefited from medication given the severe side effects of some current treatment it should be used with caution in young people. Adhd also responds to cognitive behavioral therapy as well. A diagnosis must be very clinical and specific and not just based on behavior and medication should be given only when needed such as with childhood schizophrenia which is clinically rare.
I don't think some of you get the full sense of how it is to try and parent these kids - especially in multiples! Walk a mile in my shoes, please. This is before the school starts calling - daily at times. There is no proof that taking these ritilin based drugs while the brain is still forming has ANY long reaching effect. It's easy to criticize and say how you would do it differently.
it is the standard by which such diagnoses are made. Checklists and developmental screenings are useful in pinpointing symptoms, but they are not to be used to establish diagnoses. They can be a useful component of a diagnostic process, but should not be a substitute for a thorough assessment.

According to researchers, although sexual development and fertility are usually normal, some may have delayed puberty and/or fertility problems. He was born two weeks before his due date but without complications. However he started showing symptoms of ADHD at 18 months and a delay in his speech and language development (10 months at age 3), which I found out is quite common with boys with ADHD. Having been trained as an Occupational Therapist and believe that the startle reflex and the delayed language development seem to indicate a neurological immaturity of the brain.

He has been suspended from the bus now for 3 days and has been in in-school suspension about 10 days so far this year, and in the past 2 weeks he has been suspended for 1 day each on 2 different occasions. It seems everything that I read says that he will behave better at school and the drs office, but will be more apt to have outbursts and tantrums at home.
