Avatar n tn Your son may well display ADHD, but it is important to arrange a thorough evaluation and not rush too quickly to the diagnosis. The on-line surveys can be useful tools to see if a person might display symptoms typical of ADHD, but a thorough assessment will consider a child's medical history, family history, current functioning at home and in school, possible alternative explanations for the symptoms identified on the surveys, etc.
327385 tn?1378360731 Sounds like your talking about my daughter, and she has ADHD. They started her off on Adderal XR, but she is now on Vyvance (sp). She did and does all the things you have listed, including the stealing and not knowing why. Your best bet is to try and find a peds doctor that specializes in ADD/ADHD. If she is found to have ADHD, so of the things she does might not go away, like the stealing.
Avatar f tn There has been no evidence to support active babies have adhd. Activity can be influenced by diet, exercise, and position. It's really not a reason to think there is anything wrong.
Avatar f tn I hate to tell you this, but it sure sounds like pregnancy to me.
Avatar m tn By the way, I have seen several studies that show that sleep apnea can produce ADHD like symptoms. In fact, there have been several posters on here that have had sleep apnea, been treated and their daytime behaviors definitely changed. Has anybody ever commented about you snoring or breathing loud at night? "Regardless of type, an individual with sleep apnea is rarely aware of having difficulty breathing, even upon awakening.
Avatar f tn I am going to give you several very good links on parenting a child with ADHD. As you have discovered, it is different then parenting a child who does not have ADHD. http://www.helpguide.org/articles/add-adhd/attention-deficit-disorder-adhd-parenting-tips.htm http://www.additudemag.com/slideshow/100/slide-1.html?utm_source=eletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=July http://www.additudemag.com/slideshow/88/slide-1.html?
Avatar f tn In short, adhd symptoms. There was a reason why you started Vyvanse, and as you are now stopping it...those reasons are coming back. If you have not done so....you need to read up on Ankylosis Sponilytis. It is a condition that will slowly get worse. And I am not sure that a muscle relaxer is recommended treatment. See - https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/ankylosing-spondylitis/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20354813 . And a muscle relaxer is certainly only short term treatment.
Avatar f tn But when inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsive behavior are the norm for a child, it may be a sign of ADHD. ADHD can lead to problems at home and at school, with family, teachers, and peers, so it’s important to identify the symptoms and get help.
Avatar f tn Depression and Anxiety are very common co-disorders of ADHD. And sometimes the bipolar diagnosis is not true due to the other symptoms. So its always worth taking a look at the difference between the two. Here are a couple of links for that. http://www.currentpsychiatry.com/home/article/adhd-or-bipolar-disorder-age-specific-manic-symptoms-are-key/2e1d5ec4615c5b9da40d435fca5f560c.html http://www.additudemag.com/adhd/article/2511.
Avatar f tn "Treatment starts with controlling adhd symptoms." When a childs adhd symptoms "are reduced there usually is an improvement in ODD symptoms. Stimulant medications have been shown to decrease adhd symptoms, as well as those of ODD, by up to 50%." In my opinion, the doctors have been not dealing with the cause of her ODD. Nothing you have stated is really recommended to treat adhd. My recommendation for a good adhd medication starts with a good doctor.

Avatar f tn It can have symptoms very similar to ADHD but is treated very differently. A great site I have found for information on this is here - http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/sensory-processing-disorder-checklist.html So those are the quick thoughts. I would definitely look at the SIDS site because you do treat that differently from ADHD. and he could have both. What is distressing to me is that he could have ADHD and the only help the doctors gave you is to prescribe meds?
3588173 tn?1357317184 did they shots leave any effects on your child? I was in preterm labor last week and was given nifedipine to stop contractions and steroids to boost lung development... Since then I have read that the shots leave an increased risk of ADD ADHD and autism.
Avatar f tn Have you tried Strattera for the ADHD because, unfortunately, most other medications that help the symptoms of ADHD are stimulants and will exaserbate the symptoms of BP.Good luck with your quest. I'm still trying to get the balance right myself.
Avatar f tn Things such as add/adhd do tend to run in families but I would not worry about this. Babies are a joy and as the mother of a child with a developmental delay that looks like adhd------- I wouldn't change one thing about my child. He is wonderful as he is. He may be more challenging but I rise to the occassion as he is my beloved baby. You will too. And there is a very good chance your child will not have add/adhd. I'd not look for it but take each day as it comes.
1454650 tn?1285249763 I am not an ADHD dad, but I can say that a lot of parents have the same feelings that you do. A crying, screaming child is very difficult to cope with. Couple that with your natural ADHD response to kind of react quickly to situations, its tough on all concerned. Your child should get better. You need to figure out a way to deal those stresses. You might want to check out, "http://jeffsaddmind.com/ " Its an adult adhd site.
Avatar n tn I had a friend who recently tried an elimination diet and slowly added foods back that she eats regularly, she found out that she was allergic to wheat, rhy, some flour products, sweeteners, etc. that were causing the ADHD symptoms... She has since started eating whole foods and good fats and her symptoms have vastly improved... It could be something as little as the dyes in foods, or sweeteners, etc...

Avatar n tn My daughters symptoms went away quickly my son need a pretty high dose because his symptoms were more severe. The tricky part in this is the ADHD because the ADHD meds can make OCD symtoms worse! They are stimulants. Try only the seratonin med first. Sometimes ADHD can be solved with only this. You need a good Neuropsychologist here for the Tourettes/ADHD. They are the brain chemical experts. Not a Neurologist. Insist on an MRI w/ your Neurologist though!
