Avatar f tn I was wondering if I go to a different psychiatrist could I get the medication prescribed to me again because it was helping me and I was diagnosed with adhd by a psychiatrist. Does anyone know if a psychiatrist stops prescribing you a medication because of possible abuse does he/she make a note somewhere so I would be unable to ever pick up a prescription to that medication again. If anyone can help me with this problem I would appreciate it.

Avatar f tn His doctors is very familiar with the ADHD because is own son is ADHD s he knws what we are going through. My son has his ggod days and his bad days. He is more out going an active with the Vyvanse than he was with the Daytrana, I am cncerned that it may not be strong enough. I am already antisipating that he will probably be held back this year in school and maybe that would be a good thing. He would then realize that there are consequences for his actions.

Avatar n tn It is possible that your son has both ADHD and anxiety issues. However, it is common today for medical personnel to misdiagnose a child because the behaviours for some anxiety disorders and ADD/ADHD are very similar. Since the medication for ADHD is not working, I wonder if this could be the problem in your son's situation - he suffers from anxiety but not ADD/ADHD. Usually, the medication for anxiety is one of the SSRI's - non-habit-forming medications.

Avatar f tn He is very high functioning but of course with this he has OCD type behaviors, anxiety etc. At age 5 he was diagnosed with pretty sever ADHD. We started on Strattera and after two weeks he violently attacked me...We then went to Concerta then to Focalin then back to Concerta....not ever obtaining great control of ADHD. He additionally was put on Prozac about a year ago for anxiety as he was chewing the skin off his fingers until they would bleed and chew huge blisters on his lips.
Avatar f tn My stepson is 7 1/2. His mother works 14 hours a day. He goes to aftercare at his school everyday. He basically spends most of his day everyday at school. He has been going for play therapy with a child psychologist for the past six months. The school complained that he does not listen to authority and sometimes disrupts his class. He visited us over the holidays. We experienced him as emotionally neglected and could control his naughtiness with discipline in the form of time out in his room.
Avatar n tn My son is 9 years old. He is diagnosed with ADHD, ODD, and Slight derision. He is taking 20mg adderal xr, 25mg Zoloft and .02 Clonidine to help him sleep. He has transferred to a new school and has had serious problems at school. He is swearing at the teachers and the principle. Has been in two fights, and has had 4 suspensions. Plus numerous in house suspensions. He has also thrown away his home work and hiding and or destroys it.
Avatar n tn Hi there, I have a 7 yr old brother who is hyper active. He gets bored easily at school and is always disruptive in class to an extent that he misses most of what is being taught in class. My problem is that the teacher has decided that he needs to be evaluated by a psychologist to determine if he has ADHD and what medication he would need. I don't know much about ADHD but I don't think I would want him to be on medication especially if there are side effects that are not good for him.
Avatar f tn t work, then you might have to go for OCD medication if you want her to continue taking the ADHD medication. Paxil works really good for OCD. I had a really bad case complete with obsessions of germs and chemicals to the extreme. About the ADHD medication all I can remember when i took it is that it gave me headaches. But I can see your reasoning, its given to her so she can focus and then she takes it to an extreme and becomes fixated on something like her fingers.
Avatar f tn My son has ADHD and has told lies about his stepmom at his school and now social workers are getting involved. I have had him tell me what he said and then tell me what is good about her. I told him what happens to children who actually do get abused and what happens to their parents who hit them. I told him that this hurts all of us and this behavior is unacceptable and I made sure that I told him he's not a "bad guy" and that I love him.
Avatar m tn m no med student (never even took biology in high school) so much of it was another language to me, but there seemed to be as much information in favour of the existence of adhd, its treatment and medication, as there was against it. I was very surprised to that adhd medication is an amphetamine; isn’t that like methamphetamines, a highly addictive and destructive drug? (though I’m sure 40mg is much less than "street" value).
Avatar n tn which uupon reading about seems very much like ADHD. He is bright, mechanicaly inclined and capable but is a borderline student, moody, impulsive and extraodinarilly hard to discipline. At age 9 he is now having trouble keeping friends and in gerneral not as happy as he once was. It was previously suggested that he might be best served by being on a med like ritlalin but we have been unwilling to to this. Are we hurting this child by not using meds.
Avatar n tn Not all people with ADHD need to take medication. For those who do, however, prescribed medication that is closely monitored can actually prevent and minimize the need to self-medicate. When medication helps people to concentrate, control their impulses, and regulate their energy level, they are less likely to self-medicate" and, "Psychostimulant medication when properly prescribed and monitored is effective for approximately 75-80% of people with ADHD.
Avatar f tn I need help but no doctor is willing to help me...

Avatar n tn My daughter is 13 years old and she has been diagnized with ADD & ADHD. She is on 'Adderall' and 'Ciprelex'. I dont know if it is the medication or it is just the ADD that she gives me a lot of trouble. I do not know how to deal with it and would appreciate some feed back. There are days that it gets really bad and does not listen to a thing she is told, she screams and cries so all the neighbours could hear.
20003388 tn?1515166040 I am prescribe the Rexulti for depression/anxiety in conjunction with Prozac and Cymbalta. The Vyvanse is being added to treat my severe ADHD, I am the mostly inattentive type. I just want to be able to think and focus clearly. If this combo will still allow that I would be happy, if not than I may need to talk to my doc. Thanks for any responses.
1304850 tn?1273215493 I believe that body weight does make a significant difference on dosage effects. You can google adderall dosage and get a lot of info. From what I read - if the adderall is not extended release, than you should have felt a difference at 30mg. Now, if you are really, really big - maybe not? Here again (the disclaimer), I am not a doctor. But if you were a normal adult WITHOUT ADHD, than you should have gotten a rush from the meds. If you have ADHD, the effect is more subtle.
