Common Questions and Answers about Adhd evaluation test

adhd

Avatar f tn My son (8) has been diagnosed with ADHD when he was 6. Hadn't use any medication till a week ago. We are trying Straterra and I'm hoping it will help in class with his focus/attention. He is significantly behind and am concerned with him repeating 3rd grade. I know it will crush his self-esteem. Which is why we are trying medication as advised by his doctor. I know he has something else in addition to the ADHD, some kind of learning disability.
Avatar n tn My health insurance does not cover testing for ADHD and his teacher and pediatrician want him tested. Is there an organization which helps pay for these tests? I was told by my sister that under the "No when left behind law" the school department should pay. Is this true?
Avatar n tn ive just taken an online test to see if my son has adhd it said that he is showing symtoms. he is 5 years old. his teacher has said that he is the brightest boy in the class but finds it hard to pay attention and fidgets all the time, he shouts out alot and when he is at home he never listens to a word i say when i ask him to behave. he runs and jumps about and never walks and talks constantly i have to ask him repeatedly every time i want him to do something. do you think this is adhd?
Avatar n tn My sense from your note is that your son should not be home schooled. Relative to the possibility of ADHD, the evaluation should be done by a pediatric mental health professional. Ask your son's doctor how to go about this.
Avatar f tn You didn't mention that she has ever been evaluated by a pediatric mental health clincian, so I am assuming such an evaluation has not occurred. It's interesting how often parents overlook specialized evaluation in the areas of emotional and behavioral functioning, when they would never overlook specialized evaluaion for a strictly medical concern. You should arrange an evaluation.
5757880 tn?1395578022 (Since they can only test him once and if he doesn’t meet the qualifications they cannot test him for another three years). We understood their reasoning but also was made aware that at any time we requested the testing to be done (in a formal request) it would have to be done within 45 days. Well, we have been working with the school daily. They send me reports about his behavior and we ended up having to switch his medication in the middle of September to Concerta.
Avatar f tn Well me and my family have always suspected my son of having adhd even though hes only 4 for awhile I told my family they where crazy that he wasnt adhd he was just being a typical child/toddler at the time until I had a women come and ask me if he had it cause my son acts alot like hers did at his age ao I took my son in to the doctor and theydid some test and want to wait twtell his 5th bday to do further test but my doctor said it seems as if he does in fact have it.
184933 tn?1209353840 Does anyone have a kid with ADHD and an IEP? I've been reading through various articles and law regarding IEP, not much mention of 504 Plan though. Seems like my son might qualify because of his serious ADHD, emotional trauma and health issues. We have a meeting set for August 19th, 2010.
Avatar f tn My very concerned and very well intentioned sister signed on yesterday and expressed the need for guidance on behalf of our family, which is very much appreciated and I love her for it, however some of the facts got a bit jumbled and may or may not make a difference in the kinds of helpful hints offered. My 7 year old son who has recently been diagnosed as having ADHD, was recently suspended from school due to inappropriately touching some girls in his class.
Avatar f tn This means that there is delayed development of insulating substance over the nerve fibres with decrease in volume and minute abnormal signals which could represent small areas of cellular proliferation or normal spaces around blood vessels. It is advised to correlate the study with a clinical evaluation. This is best discussed with your treating neurologist. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar n tn Perhaps it's time for a full mental health evaluation then. The issue of add/adhd can be dealt with through this evaluation along with the other mental health concerns. Are you open to seeing a psychiatrist?
Avatar f tn Its possible that your child may have Asperger's because it's biological uncle has it, but at the same time Asperger's could be a random gene mutation. Asperger's is interesting like that and could be misdiagnosed as ADHD.
574101 tn?1245537020 is it normal for a 4 year old (autisum) to have a normal pet scan mri ALSO ALL MEDABOLIC TESTS ARE NORMAL HE HAD A HEARING DELAY AND STILL HAS A SPEECH DELAY HE WAS PUT ON KEPPRA FOR A YEAR WITCH TOOK HIM ON A WILD RIDE SENCE WE STOPPED THE KEPPRA HE IS GETTER BETTER AND TALK MORE HE IS VERY HYPER AND THE DR. Avatar f tn I think if you have concerns-------- your next steps could vary depending on how old he is. If he is in the school setting, you can ask for a formal evaluation from the school district. If he is younger, you can still do that and then your child could enter the early intervention program/preschool provided by your local school district by law.
Avatar f tn I have heard of ADHD symptoms, I heard that it is much more easier to have fights if you have ADHD also ADHD kids act mostly, hyper, either violent(Not all), Overreacting over mainly little things. Sometimes they wonder in there own world. Having Aspergers can be different in many ways, Aspergers is when your child is having emotional problems maybe even getting embarrassed, shy, difficult education maybe even speech problems.
