Avatar m tn 25 M, 6'1, 185 lbs, white, ADHD, Paxil 40mg + Caffeine ~ 200mg + Nicotine ~ 6mg My grandmother developed diabetes. In 2020 my Glucose level (from a COMPREHENSIVE METABOLIC PANEL, done for a routine physical) was 91 mg/dL, last month it was 105 mg/dL. The test mentions that a normal range is 65 - 99 mg/dL. Should I stop using nicotine gum to mitigate any risk to insulin function? This article states that nicotine gum decreases your body's insulin effectiveness...
8748261 tn?1400677893 I have one coke a day. And maybe one other caffeine free soda a day. But usually just coke. And then water and juice the rest of the day. I'm 23w and only gained 2lbs so my dr told me to keep doing what I'm doing hahaha.
Avatar m tn About a few years ago, I had a really bad reaction to caffeine--heart palpitations, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure--over drinking a 20oz of Mountain Dew. I recently started taking Adderall for ADHD (was diagnosed since I was a child but could never swallow medication until early adulthood), and I thought it was really going to mess with my heart. Funny enough, I tolerate Adderall very well with a nominal increase in BP every so often.
Avatar m tn Red Bull contains caffeine which improves focus and attention. However, prescription medications are generally far more effective than Red Bull for ADHD.
Avatar n tn The link between caffeine during pregnancy and adhd is very odd.. With my first child, I didn't drink a single sip of ANYTHING that had caffeine, including the fact I turned down chocolate. My son is almost 8 and was diagnosed with ADHD at 3 yrs old and his docs said he was one of the worst cases they had ever seen. Now my 2nd and 3rd child, I cheated, drank some soda or tea here and there, and neither one of them have a trace of ADHD...
Avatar m tn Many adults with ADD/ADHD have lifelong love affairs with coffee or caffeinated sodas. Yet caffeine may exacerbate the effect of stimulant medications, creating anxiety and heart palpitations. You can’t determine what’s causing these side effects -- the stimulant or the caffeine -- unless you gradually wean yourself off caffeine before starting stimulants. (Try to do it a few days in advance, though, so that you don’t mistake a headache due to caffeine deprivation for a medication side effect.
Avatar f tn Not sure why you mentioned caffeine - that is an upper. And the melatonin is tricky. I would only use it as a last resort. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Too much can cause still birth or miscarriage. My doctor said to limit it to about a 12oz can a day. Don't forget caffeine is also in things like tea and chocolate. You could be consuming more than you think. If you're only having a cup in the morning and occasionally in the afternoon some soda then I would think you'll be just fine.
Avatar n tn I drank tea like it was water with my first son and he came out with ADHD and autism, my other son is fine. This tone around I'm steering clear of anything caffeinated. Not saying that was the cause, but my nurse at the on office said that caffeine restricts the blood vessels and can reduce blood flow to the baby. Not a risk in OK with. Good luck. She said one 8 oz cup of coffee or soda is OK. No more the 200 mg per day.
Avatar f tn My friend is in the nursing program and it said in an app she has for class that coffee caffeine is okay to have but limit the other caffeine like chocolate and pop to 30-50mg to avoid low birth weight. So you should be fine!
Avatar n tn For the first 3 months I could only drink Dr. Pepper water and tea and other sodas made me puke And I drank sodas with all my other pregnancies too...
Avatar f tn What is it that you drink 1-2 cans of? You can safely have up to 200 mg of caffeine per day so if your talking soda than that's fine because you aren't close to that 200mg. If you are talking energy drinks that's very bad and you should try to wean yourself off of them completely. Not so much for the caffeine but because the other stuff in them (taurine, ginseng, guarana, l-carnatine, etc) is not good for baby and its safety is unknown.
Avatar n tn I agree with your doctor. My brother is a recovering alcoholic who "abuses" caffeine because of the high it gives him. I firmly believe he is and has always been ADD, but it wasn't diagnosed back then. Caffeine has other side effects if used in excess. It gives you a high, but gives you a big down once it has run through your system. It can also cause ulcers. The good thing about adderall is it is a time released drug, keeping you feeling balanced all day.
Avatar n tn Nowadays I eat really well, exercise everyday (yoga, kickboxing and running) and am a vegetarian. I use lots of teas and plants. Does anyone know a natural solution to help concentration? I wouldn't wanna take Adderal or anything of the sort. I'm experimenting with 5HTP and although it does wonders for my moods I don't think it helps in this way.
Avatar f tn I also have a very hard time paying attention to things and my mind jumps from one thing to the next. Anything that has caffeine in it makes me very tired and want to sleep. I am 16.
Avatar m tn I had ADHD and dyslexia as a child. It was never treated because of the era. All of my children, grands& great-grands have it. I have recently experienced a return of ADHD that has become debilitating with constantly being distracted and serious inability to accomplish what I need to do. I am concerned my docs will not treat it appropriately b/c of the conditions I have that are treated with Rxs: COPD, Spondyloiisthesis, Arthritis, PVCs & Sleep Apnea.
467977 tn?1262714747 Hi all, my husband is needing to know a good over-the-counter drug to help with his ADHD. It's mainly just to help him concentrate and study for med school (the irony). He had no time to see a Dr during the week b/c of his school schedule. Anyone know of any vitamins/otc drugs that will help calm him and help him concentrate?? Thanks in advance...
Avatar f tn I also take an amino acid supplement, L-THEANINE, which helps balance out some of the overstimulation that Vyvanse and other stimulants (caffeine) can cause and it helps with ADHD on its own as well. It can be bought OTC at GNC or the Vitamin Shoppe.
Avatar n tn The amount of medication that is necessary to work varies for each person depending on body weight, age, and severity of ADHD. Doctors typically start out with a low dose and wait to see how it works. Thus communication with your doctor is very important (He should have told you this). 10mg is enough (I would think) that if you don't have ADHD you would be off to the races (which is another reason the doctors start with a low dose). Let him know how you are feeling.
Avatar f tn 200mg of caffeine per day is considered safe during all stages of pregnancy.
11513017 tn?1425723993 Watch your caffeine intake, to include chocolate, because I believe the recommended dosage is no more than 200 mg/day which roughly equates to 2 x 8 oz cups of coffee. Over activity could be due to an excess consumption of stimulants. Good luck.
Avatar f tn My son has sensory and anything with caffeine makes for a 'bad' situation. But he doesn't have add/adhd---- so I guess the posters daughter really had add/adhd.
Avatar f tn 11 185 lbs, resting rate is usually around 65 but if I drink caffeine or take my prescribed ADHD meds or drink alcohol occasionally, etc it can get up to 90-100 for a while until the effects wear off. Is this dangerous for my heart? I have health anxiety. I do workout 3-4 times a week and try to watch what I eat.
Avatar f tn so I've done research on caffeine intake including sugar. And thru the research I found, it said that its better to go without it but if I can't avoid it should at least be in moderatsy. How much is moderatsy and would it still harm the baby and give him ADHD? My boyfriend says that I've been having to much. Like a mug full or more in a day and then not having it for 2 weeks or more. The research I looked up said a mug full a day is fine which is 100mg or 200.
Avatar f tn My doctor approved me for aleve and ibuprofen in the second trimester. I get awful stress headaches and I don't know if you can have it or not but maybe try a little caffeine like a cup of coffee. A small amount of caffeine helps alot with mine with my doctor's approval. However I think it helps me only because I am essentially caffeine free.
Avatar m tn Ignore allmymarbles. The ******* goes and posts anti-medicinal therapy on all of the ADHD posts. I'm sure they wouldnt vaccinate their children either. Anyway, I'm a graduate student at Harvard, and I as well have ADHD. I'm on Vyvanse and it COMPLETELY changed my life. It's the least addictive of all the stimulants and proves the have the least side effects. I'm a happier, more organized, productive, focused, and calm person.
Avatar f tn I have three children and one on the way. All of which I have drank caffinated beverages. My children are fine. They say it can be linked to ADHD, but my oldest has ADHD and my other two DON'T. So who can really say? I think in moderation you will be fine. Shoot, we inhale and consume worse things on a daily basis without even knowing it. Think about it, for year they said nuts were bad for cholesterol and now it has certain health benefits. There are many other products like that.
