s all that drug does for me (keeps me awake for the most part but no energy to move). I have been on 40-60mg adderall for 20yrs and wonder if I have done damage to my dopamine receptors and thus the reason I feel like I can't move, even though physically, I can. Anyone else with narco or that's been on adderall for so long, feel this way? I really really really need help.
I am diagnosis with narcolepsy and have had symptoms for 5 years now. I have been taking 500 mg. of nuvigil for over 2 years. Plus, 60 mg of adderall a day. My symptoms have slowed down a little, but I have to take 2 naps a day and not drive anywhere. I have sleep studies twice a year and it seems to get worse each time. Its very aggravating to me! It seems like something would help. I see a team of specialists at Vanderbilt, but I need something else, but what? Anyone have any suggestions?

I was diagnosed with narcolepsy at age 25, took adderall ufor 5 yrs. then stopped for 1 yr to become pregnant. I took pro vigil for appr. 6,so. W/0 any help, des. Increased med and it sent me into violent emotions. I have had a recent MRI because of headaches. I need hello. I don't want the diagnosis of narcolepsy but I can't live like this.

nor has my doctor seem to ever remember that I have narcolepsy. I am his only patient with narcolepsy,
and if I ever end up in his office, it seems like he always forgets that I have narcolepsy. I don't
believe he has a good understanding of this. Any suggestions. I am in the process of trying to switch
my doctor, but in the meanwhile, I have been more tired lately than usual.

It is not a narcotic although there are those who mistreat it for its affects. I'm pretty sure you'll be just fine for urine test and should not be affected by it at all.
Hey. Keep your head up, there's a lot you can do to work with this. Feeling defeated and depressed comes along with a sleep disorder, I know. I'm just a couple years younger than you. The same things happened to me. I was so smart but all my grades started falling because I could never get anything done. Everyone thought I was just lazy- I thought I was just lazy. But I was tired all the time and unmotivated.
See a sleep specialist.
Just read a post of a person on both Vyvanese and Adderall--my doctor said no to me. What about Desoxyn? What medicine works the best for ADD/ADHD coupled with narcolepsy???????????? Need ideas and what combinations you can suggest.
A friend of mine that I've known for 15 years now has been acting a little strange lately. On Tuesday 5/20 she called me late & told me she was on her way to my house b/c she was leaving her husband of 8 years. She said she needed a place to stay til Friday. She did not tell her sister parents what she was doing. Her husband told them on Thurs. 5/22. The next day, Friday, her family tried to sit her down & talk to her about what she was doing. She punched her sister in the face.
The dose might be too high. I've had similar things happen when I was on too high a dosage of Adderall. If I'm not mistaken, Vyvanse is a longer-duration version of dextroamphetamine - not too far from adderall, which is a mixture of amphetamine salts (mostly dextroamphetamine). Mention it to your pdoc - chances are it's from the dosage and it needs to be changed a bit.
When mine was a bit too high, I noticed weird things like that, such as my tongue would continually rub my teeth.
s perscribed adderall a few times. What im wondering is if adderall is only used to treat adhd and narcolepsy. I have always had low self confidence, so low that I would barely talk to anyone. I also have no sense of well being naturally, I never feel "good" mentally to just relax and do work without becoming too bored or tired or just un-happy about what im doing.

Emerging treatments being investigated for narcolepsy include hypocretin replacement, hypocretin gene therapy, stem cell transplant, skin temperature manipulation and immunotherapy, but further research is needed to confirm their effectiveness.

I did have a friend who was on Adderall (same form of stimulant) for narcolepsy...it helped with that, but she lost massive weight and became paranoid.

Modafinil is a drug for narcolepsy prescribed for MS fatigue. I am interested in knowing if you have narcolepsy or MS fatigue. Recently I have been experiencing extreme fatigue for which my neuro prescribed amantadine. It is working. The next step would be modafinil but I was told that many of their patients use Ritalin or adderall. Both are addictive so they start with the ones with least side effects first. So far amantadine has been helping get me through my day without crashing.
i was wondering if i should be tested for narcolepsy, or if diagnosed with narcolepsy would they prescribe me to something similar to adderrall? if this were the case, being tested would not matter much if they would give me the same medications anyways. I just dont want to be misdiagnosed and on the wrong medication for the rest of my life.
Hey, I so happen to stumble on this thread while trying to search for some answers. What are your symptoms for narcolepsy? I have always had vivid dreams.. ever since I was 3 or 4. I fall asleep in class almost everyday (actually throughout my undergraduate career. I always have to learn the stuff on my own because I can't stay awake in class). It doesn't matter if I sleep 10 hours or 12 hours a day. I can't pay attention in class and start thinking about other things..
First, xanax & adderall can both cause dependency. Xanax is especially scary because many people can develop a high tolerance very quickly, and have to continually take more and more.
And since adderall can actually cause depression-type symptoms, it seems really strange that your doc would treat your depression with it. Adderall should really only be taken by individuals with ADD/ADHD(and then only those whom the disorder affects severely) or narcolepsy.
