Adderall dosage for children

Common Questions and Answers about Adderall dosage for children

adderall

Avatar n tn My 11 year old son is currently taking Dexadrine. He has slowly increased to 20 mg in the morning. His teacher and myself (my son too) have noticed a postitive change in his work output at school and during homework sessions. Two of the side effects are of great concern to me. My son can't sleep until well after 10:30 pm. (we are trying Melatonin, but haven't found the right dosage). The other side effect that is most troubling is the loss of appetite.
Avatar m tn I have been taking adderall for 6 years now. I read your post and I have experienced exactly the same effects. The only thing that stopped me from slowing down my mind was to up the dosage. However each time you up the dosage it seems to take about a year or so until my mind slows down again while on the medication. I've asked two different doctors about the long term effects of adderall but they both claim there is no information or known studies of prolonged adderall use.
3050754 tn?1340206018 Prozac and Paxil both significantly block the pathway for the metabolism of Adderall and all the amphetamine products. So if you are using either of these two with adderall - that could be part of the problem. The link is here - http://www.corepsychblog.com/2006/11/adderall-prozac-and-paxil-problem-not-solution/ Hope some of this might be helpful in explaining to your doc what is going on. I may also have some stuff on common adult requirements for XR- I'll keep looking.
Avatar m tn I think the world would disagree with you. The only people claiming it is not addictive are those prescribing it for children with ADD/ADHD. There are safer ways to treat this ailment.
Avatar n tn I am a stay at home mother with three young boys. I have been taking zoloft (100mg daily) for depression for about nine years. The only times I was not taking zoloft is during my second and third pregnancies (and, boy, it was tough). Zoloft has changed my life - and my family's happiness. Just recently I was also diagnosed with ADD. My doc gave me adderall 10mg IR to try.
1469794 tn?1286630557 I would get adderall and everytime I would run out of my DOC I would get hopped up on Adderall and I didn't have any WD's. So in my opinion YES Ritalin and Adderall or any stimulants do help BUT It is dangerous and I would never tell somebody to try it. I am only saying from experience that for me it stopped them but not saying for you or anybody else to do that. Everybody is different and what works for one may not work for another.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am concerned about the behavior of a friend of mine who is taking 340 mg adderall a day as prescribed by a psychiatrist for adult ADD. She has been on it for 5 - 6 years, starting on a much smaller dosage and indicating to the psychiatrist that it was not helping, and the psychiatrist kept upping the dosage. From the bit of research I have done, my understanding is that this may not be a reasonable dosage of adderall.
Avatar f tn I became addicted to oxycodone 15mg in 2012 after my first back surgery, obviously I was on them while I was in the hospital for 7days after surgery then took them for about 4 days once I got home. I tried to stop and became sick and realized I was addicted. I go to a pain clinic for my chronic pain. Since then I had surgery on my elbow and just 2 weeks ago I had another back surgery. My oxycodone has never been upped in dosage so of course it doesn't help with the pain.
Avatar n tn 10 milligrams seems like way too much for that age!!!! I think that's the problem right there. I'm 20 and my doctor just prescribed me 5mils for my adhd to start out with. My dosage is weak and hasn't done much for me, but still. If you google kids that age are usually only given 2.5 or 5 mils. Adderall also effects blood pressure; so it is very important that he gets that checked, so you know if the dose it too high. I've lived with adhd my entire life without meds.
Avatar f tn My daughter is very competetive in track and just stared taking adderall for her ADD. Will the adderall slow her running down? She is very concerned.
Avatar n tn Has been on Concerta and Adderall in the past. He maxed out the dosage with Concerta and I was not happy with some of the side affects with the Adderall. He has had other strange behavior in the past as well... chewing on sleeves and necks of clothing, chewing on his head/foot board, and chewing on the mini-blinds. We have taken away everything except for bedding, clothing and books.
Avatar m tn I stopped taking my perscription to adderall xr 30mg two weeks ago since my semester at college was over. I was taking this dosage for almost three months. Since I have stopped, I have noticed fatigue in the morning along with a foggy thought process through out the day. Is this normal? And how long does this withdrawl last for?
Avatar n tn According to the regulatory agency, they received safety information concerning the association of sudden deaths, heart-related deaths, and strokes in children and adults taking recommended doses of Adderall and Adderall XR. This risk of Adderall death seemed particularly high for individuals with structural heart abnormalities. In response to these findings, the FDA issued an advisory warning about the possible risk of death, but allowed the drug to remain on the market.
Avatar f tn Adderall 10 mg = Vyvanse 30 mg, Adderall 20 mg = Vyvanse 50 mg, Adderall 30 mg = Vyvanse 70 mg. I always start lower than expected with a change to Vyvanse, as for about 10-15% that anticipated dose of Vyvanse proves too much. I don’t want folks on my watch to experience 10% problems." I would also check the comments in the above link and some of them might apply to you. the link is - http://www.corepsych.
1182411 tn?1265321044 My name is David and I was browsing the net for suggestions about adderall tolerance, I am on 90 mg xr of Adderall , and it stopped working . No single psychiatrist as of now has been willing to increase it. It just kinda gives me hope to know that there are others who need more than the 'usual' dose, thanks for your time. I just needed to say this.
284002 tn?1244547555 I am currently in therapy as I believe my depression is part biological and cognitive. I was at a dosage of 300mg for a week and felt VERY anxious now the doctor wants me to take 150 one day and 300 the next and see what happens. My therapist suggested I try to add an SSRI like Zoloft in the mix... I'll check my Dr.
Avatar n tn It does not suppress appetite and is quite an effective medication, particularly for those children who are inattentive but not hyperactive.
Avatar f tn I personally know Amphetamine(Adderall) is one of best medicine for 3 and older children. Every medication have some side effects Amphetamine is used to treat narcolepsy and attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity (ADHD). How should I take amphetamine? It is the basic question that we need to know. Take amphetamine exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions , ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.
Avatar f tn Why is my 'shrink' trying to treat my Adult ADD with Bubropion HCL SR (100mg tab 2X a day)? Is this the right med for me? Good grief...it didn't even cut out my smoking. Both of my adult children are on Adderall and are doing fine. My doc keeps telling me that Concerta & Adderall are 'too addictive' ... what the heck ... I am not looking to get high or anything ... I just want to be able to have a med to make my ADD manageable.
Avatar f tn Adderall is a cakewalk compared to opiates. You will be just fine. Kids stay on adderall and still get into Harvard--in fact, kids are purposefully getting on adderall to improve their grades. Coming off something like adderall is in no way, shape or form as hard as painkillers so I know you can do it. Just drink lots of juice, have some tylenol just in case. You'll be fine, honey.
Avatar f tn But typically doctors start you off at the lowest possible logical amount and then wait for feedback before upping the dosage. The 30mg adderall that you were on was probably an extended release version. It was bigger because it packed enough to last all day. Allergies are pretty rare, and if you had it, I think that you would know fairly rapidly. Remember, anxiety can easily cause breathing troubles (hyperventilating, etc.). Beers shouldn't be a problem.
1012981 tn?1322603293 Bob, I actually take Adderall XR and IR each day and have for about 4/5 years.. Here's how my setup is, my work schedule is from 5am-2:20pm. Adderall XR 30mg Capsule at 4:30am Adderall IR 30mg Tablet at 8:30/9am Adderall IR 20mg Tablet at 12:30/1pm This gets me through the day and I'm able to stay on task, focused and be productive. I don't feel the crash until about 5pm, at which point i'm basically useless.
5757880 tn?1395578022 But, my first thought is that I believe that you have been using stim meds now for about 5 months? Does the dosage now seem to be working? I see where you have gone from concerta to methlophyidate. 20mg, 3 times daily. Of course the 20 mgs is somewhat short acting so that there will be gaps in the coverage. Does the anxiety get worse during those times. And, of course, there are ways to deal with anxiety that even a 8 year can learn to deal with it.
Avatar f tn and to answer your question, no, it is not a common reaction for adults on Adderall to act that way if there using it for what it is prescribed for and not over abusing it. and if its the right med for the person.
Avatar m tn mirtazapine and propanol. the adderral has helped me keep focus but it has also given me the side effects that i haven't felt since i was younger. I have been feeling increased anxiety, panic attacks that are unusual, nightmares and very pronounced depression. I also have been smoking maurijuanna but occasionally not too much. Theres so many variable that i don't know which is the main contributor to the increased depressive feelings.
Avatar n tn I'm a 40 yo male and have been taking Adderall for three years now....same dosage (30mg twice daily), but take it 7 days a week for ADD. My doc suggested that once a year I take two weeks off to "reset" my system...but I've never wanted to go that long without taking it! Well....it's my 4th day of being totally off and I'm feeling great. I started cutting back by a 1/4 of a dose each day.
Avatar f tn ve finally started 90 mg of Cymbalta which has put in a decent mood for a change. 30 mg of Adderall a day has at least slowed the thoughts down so I can TRY to figure things out. Is Adderall supposed to help with organization? Procrastination? randome thoughts.....
