Adderall and lexapro weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Adderall and lexapro weight loss

lexapro

Avatar f tn I remember being a puffy mute on lexapro and zyprexa. Not only was my usual 130 pound jewish frame elevated to 170 within months I felt suicidal for the first time in my life. I found a combo of wellbutrin/zoloft that seems to serve me well. After hearing my complaints of fatigue he added adderall. It does help but it's but you can develop tolerance fairly quickly and it's drawing on your body's essential vitality (chi) to do this.
Avatar n tn Over the past 6 months I have gained 30 pounds. I have OCD and was put on Lexapro along with other meds which really put the weight on fast. My doctor swithced my meds to Zoloft, Serequel, Anfranil, Klonopin, and Proprnolol for my anxiety and OCD. My OCD is finally under control but now all I do is obsess about my weight. It is really impacting my social life. I currently take 25mg of topamax in the morning and 50mg at night.

Avatar f tn I am guessing that you see two different doctors. One for weight loss and one for your ADHD/anxiety. I say this because Basically phentermine is a stimulant (works like adderall), but works differently then adderall. I am not sure you should be taking it with adderall. "Phentermine use is containdicated in those who are: Taking amphetamine (i.e. Adderall, Dexedrine, Vyvanse), in the last 14 days" This quote is from - http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar m tn My big question is when are the doctors going to stop telling everyone that they do not gain weight on antidepressants, I have been on lexapro now for 2 yrs, and have gained 25 lbs, I watch what I eat exercise, dance, etc... and the weight will NOT come off. My doctor tells me well you are are at the age of premenopause and at that age, that you are going to gain weight, well I am getting tired of hearing it.
Avatar f tn People taking SSRIs like Lexapro can complain about weight gain; and there are many that complain about weight loss. Remember, that anxiety can often lead to depression which in itself can cause weight gain for a viarity of reasons. I actually lost weight while taking an SSRI, but I think it had to do a lot more with a normal exercise routine and watching what I ate.
Avatar n tn Then the following day is marked by apathy and irritability. Symptoms improve after one day of no Adderall (and a break helps prevent tolerance). Taking Adderall also increases my heart rate, and I feel physically more nervous, despite anxious thoughts not being present. I would like to remain on Adderall, as the treatment for my ADHD has given me a substantial boost in confidence and learning, which has been invaluable and overshadows its negatives.
Avatar m tn Then, about 2 ½ years ago I had a near-psychotic meltdown, mostly about the devil and evil spirits, and was diagnosed with OCD and prescribed Anafranil and Zyprexa, which helped with the irrational thinking and obsessive thoughts a little. Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism.
616534 tn?1233236497 I am now on Bupropreon (sorry for the spelling) which is the opposite of Lexapro and it works better for me as it treats my ADD and my mood swings.
Avatar f tn The side effects were the ones you mentioned- weight gai and loss of interest sexually. Also I have chronic sinusitis and she mentioned to me that in some cases people's antidepressants actually exasperated their sinus issues-thus the switch. In the past 3 months I have also changed my diet to much healthier whole, real foods in an effort to get healthier and lose weight. I've lost 17 pounds so far and I had hoped the switch to wellbutin might possibly help with my weight loss too.
Avatar m tn Because of this my psychiatrist put me on new meds. I am now on Lexapro, Latuda, Lorazepam, and Adderall XR. I am able to function, but not live. I work from my couch, very rarely leave the home, and feel like a complete zombie. I have urges to take more Adderall throughout the day as I feel that is the only medicine that helps me actually "live". My new doctor changed my antidepressant from Lexapro to Pristiq about a month ago to solve this problem.
Avatar f tn Same with weight loss, some folks eat when anxious or depressed and when they feel better, that compulsion is less and they lose weight. This is part of the weight loss and weight gain that you see with antidepressants. And why any same antidepressant can cause a different weight reaction (gain, loss or neutral) in different people who take it. However, there are also people that do not change their eating patterns at all that gain weight and it can only be assumed it is from the drug.
Avatar n tn A few months ago, my friends and I started to notice that I have been losing an excessive amount of weight. I don't work out and I eat regularly. I know my medication (I take lexapro) isn't responsible for this because I've already consulted with my doctor about it and they say it's nothing. This is really starting to scare me. My menstrual cycles are also regular too and I don't think this can be a factor to this.
Avatar f tn Wellbutrin is more stimulating than Lexapro, so it causes less weight gain and less loss of libido. Doesn't mean it's a weight loss aid, just means it doesn't promote weight gain the way ssris do with some people because it doesn't slow the metabolism. The weight loss should come over time if you stay off the ssris, assuming the wellbutrin is working for you as an antidepressant.
480705 tn?1208228550 There apparently is a connection between sleep deprivation and weight gain and also between stress and weight gain. Since you are on medication, I assume your parents are in the loop about everything that is going on with you, I hope you continue to keep them informed of everything you are going through. And also, good for you for being so proactive about your health.
Avatar f tn I prescribed60 mg of adderall but one week I had to take left over phentermine and 10mg adderall and my focusing was great and energy and I still do take 1/3 of phentermine a day.
Avatar f tn I am a 27 year old female. When I was 22, I took the drugs adderall, lexapro and ephedrine/phentermine (diet pills-occasionally). One night, my heart rate shot up and would not come back down, don’t matter what I tried. I went to the emergency room and they said it was the drugs I was taking. When I was 23, I began having syncope episodes and got a pacemaker. Looking back, I believe the syncope episodes were caused by the adderall and lexapro. However, I have had chest pains ever since.
Avatar f tn There are plenty of antidpressants on the market and sure there are ones that do not cause weight gain. In fact some might cause weight loss. My hypo sister takes lexapro, she hasn't gained weight, in fact she lost big time, although not saying it is due to lexapro. Thyroid treatment should be based on the latest TSH level with another test in 4 to 6 weeks to confirm the first TSH test. Treatment should not be based on previous years because TSH can go back to normal in some people.
Avatar f tn Lexapro can cause weight loss or weight gain. I have heard about Wellbutrin for weight loss. But I wouldn't recommend that he just starts using it again for weight loss. It was for sepression so the dosage prescibed was for that condition. Encourage him to see a doctor.
20790871 tn?1507161421 4% body fat), my training intensified, and I started two medications for depression (Lexapro and Wellbutrin). I gained the weight back after I quit competitive running, but the hair thinning persists. Another thing to note, I have never been an illness-prone person, but lately I have been getting sick a lot and have had several infections over the past few months.
Avatar n tn Lately, in order to get any sleep and function at all during the day I have been drinking alcohol and smoking weed late into the night...I already take Lexapro for social anxiety and I think by this point, Im mainly using Adderall to feel comfortable in social situations I cant deal with, and to keep from gaining weight. I know this is NOT the way to deal with these problems, just a quick fix that Im going to have to deal with at some point.
Avatar n tn # STUNTED GROWTH AND WEIGHT LOSS Particularly in children, Adderall can decrease growth and cause significant weight loss. Children who take Adderall for long periods should be carefully monitored for these Adderall side effects by having their height and weight measured regularly. Other Adderall Side Effects Other Adderall side effects can include significant loss of appetite, mood changes, insomnia, dry mouth, and headaches. What is happening now?
1367899 tn?1278121440 My sister and I started a blog on Adderall to learn more about the medication along with alternative and complementary ADHD treatment options. Any feedback from users of Adderall or Adderall XR would be greatly appreciated. Topics to be added this week on http://Adderall.org How is Adderall XR different from Adderall? [Adderall vs. Adderall XR] What is Adderall? How to Make Adderall: [Adderall Background Information] What are the best Adderall and ADHD books?
Avatar n tn I know that a side effect of Adderall is increased anxiety, and in turn high blood pressure, which in some people can lead to nosebleeds. I also wonder whether rapid weight loss (BMI 21.1 to 19.4 in 2 months) and increased blood pressure (from 119/80 to 146/96 in 2 months) together might make nosebleeds more likely.
Avatar n tn I've been taking regular adderall (non xr) for 10t years for ADHD. The medicine does help with the ADHD but I'm concerned with the long term effects. I know Adderall can cause weight loss /decrease appetite as a side effect. With the exception of the past couple of years I was able to keep my wieight down partly due to the drug. However the past 2 years or so I seem to be gaining wieight.
Avatar n tn t really mind (dry mouth, loss of appetite, more outgoing/energy, weight loss) but I do have one strange one that I'm not too sure about. I take my adderall after I eat a full breakfast, which is normally my only meal of the day (adderall dismisses my appetite). After about an hour of taking my medication, I have to go to the bathroom. I don't have an upset stomach, nausea, or anything like that, I just feel that pressure you get when you know you have to make a bowel movement.
