Avatar n tn Whilst I agree with your Dad taking lots of medications not being a good idea there are some conditions that require them and HSV can in some cases be one of them particularly when a person is having recurrent outbreaks,if you have been under stress lately then that is most likely the reason for them,I would advise rather than using Acyclovir cream to take Acyclovir Tablets as a Suppressive Therapy for a bit to lessen your outbreaks it involves taking 2 tablets a day for as long as you feel it n
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with eye herpes about 2 weeks ago, was treates with acyclovir tablets and viroptic eye drops. It was getting better and all of a sudden it started all back again, stronger! My eye doctor sent me to a cornea specialist and after an exam he asked me to keep taking the acyclovir tablets (1 pill - 3x a day) and prescribed Pred Forte eye drops (Prednisolone Acetate 1%) 4x a day. Reading about this stereoid, I saw that it is not to be used on infections caused by virus (eg. Herpes).
Avatar f tn Thanks Grace. I am really confused because on my tablets container it says, Take 2 tablets by mouth every day for suppression, 5 tablets a day for outbreak as directed. So I have been taking 200 mg 2x/day for suppression. I have been taking inadequate dose. Confused? Does that mean the drugs haven't been working?
Avatar f tn I used Acyclovir Antibiotic(Tablets) before i got test hiv test does that affect on my test??
Avatar m tn Hi, I have been taking acyclovir 400mg tablets 2x daily for 2 years now and along with several lifestyle changes (which includes almost no alcohol and good sleeping pattern) I have had pretty much success in suppressing my yearly OBs from 6-8 outbreaks a year to none noticeable outbreaks at all.
Avatar m tn ve only had oral outbreaks so far, i asked the doctor for acyclovir and he gave me a prescription for 800mg tablets and to take them 2x daily for a total dose of 1600mg everyday as supressive therapy. i'm concerned this is too high a dose? i thought it should be 400mg and take 2x daily for a total dose of 800mg? it was an ER doctor that gave it to me because i don't have health insurance and went to the county hospital.
Avatar f tn Recently my family doctor prescribed me to take tablets Acyclovir 400mg for one week 4 times a day. I wonder can it help herpes stop? my husband is irritated by these on the corner of my lips and he is freaked he may get it. can the tablets be a real long-term cure?
Avatar n tn Most folks can still get acyclovir - just not always in the doses they usually do. You can get 200mg tablets and take 2 at a time or get 800mg tablets and cut them in half with a pill cutter.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with herpes a week ago, and my doctor prescribed 2400mg of acyclovir daily (1 pill 4 times a day) and i have 1 week more of pills to take. My sores are all healed up, but the pain in my pelvis, rear end and legs is still quite bad. How long does this pain typically last? Thank you for your help!
Avatar f tn About 8 weeks before the first 11-weeks-test I started taking acyclovir tablets because of cold sores (probably because of heartsickness) until today, so while I performed the second test, too (300mg daily). Could this longer period of taking acyclovir have made my test false-negative, delayed my antybody production or supressed my immune system and so have delayed sero-conversion?
Avatar n tn asking me to take 2 tablets twice a day making it 4 tablets a day and prescribed 800 mg acyclovir to take three times a day. its freaking me out , to consume all this medication and see no improvement but i see my neck is very dry, itchy and red rashes. i just cleaned the part with alcohol and applied lotion. i don't want any further infection or any extreme side effects. it feels like i'm mentally gonna go crazy cuz i can't stop thinking about my lips.
Avatar n tn Hi there, In November 2008, my boyfriend kissed me when he had a visible coldsore on his lip. 24 hours later I had one come up on my lip, but with it came 3 blisters in my mouth (on my tongue & gums). From the day I caught these cold sores, I've hardly had a single day without them. They are rarely on the outside of my mouth though, but always on the inside.
Avatar m tn I started having very mild genital herpes outbreaks about eight months ago, and for this outbreak (only one small blister) I decided to take acyclovir tablets and acyclovir cream. I have no pain or itching. I have taken it for a day and a half, 200 mg every 4 hours, omitting the nighttime dose. My blister is pretty much gone, and Im wondering, would it be okay to stop taking the acyclovir? I read everywhere that Im supposed to take it for 5 days, but is it for the same reason as antibiotics?
Avatar f tn "Also, I'm hesitant to use valtrex or acyclovir for my first outbreak because I want to develop the strongest antibodies that my body can produce with out suppressive drugs. Is this idiotic?
Avatar m tn But between Day 70 and Day 73 for 4 days I had taken Acyclovir tablets orally [800 mg x 4 times x 4 days] as advised by a doctor who suspected I had got herpes zoster after some lesion appeared on my belly. I took Acyclovir tablet again for 3 days [800 mg x 4 times x 3 days] between Day 77 and Day 79. My questions: 1. I found some 2010 US research reports that suggest that Acyclovir taken orally brings down the HIV viral load. Here's one related report: http://news.bbc.co.
Avatar n tn Acyclovir is always 2x/day for suppressive therapy. You can not take acyclovir just 800mg 1x/day. It's not effective that way. Call your provider up and question that dose. If they say that that dose works too -ask them to please cite the research that backs that. I guarantee you they can't provide any that shows that 800mg once a day is effective for acyclovir!! do you have hsv1 or hsv2 genitally? How about orally - which one?
Avatar m tn Continue with acyclovir for the rest of the week. There are also acyclovir creams that could be applied topically. However, acyclovir cream does not eliminate the herpes virus, it is not a cure, and it does not prevent transmission to others. It works by stopping viral replication. Ask your doctor about this option. If the rash persists, inform your doctor about this for further evaluation.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed zovirax acyclovir ointment 5% for a subsequent o/b.On the pamphlet it says it is for initial o/b's in immunocompetent persons as myself. But the pharmacist says it is doesn't matter and that the ointment is better than the cream because it adheres better.Which one is better for subsequent genital herpes o/b......acyclovir cream or ointment? What is the difference between the cream and the ointment? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Hi- my 3 y/o was diagnosed with herpetic whitlow on Friday and began taking acyclovir. She returns to preschool on Monday. The doc said there was no need to cover her finger, but I'm wondering if we shouldn't do that to prevent transmission in case a blister pops or something at school. Thoughts? Thanks!
2023801 tn?1333929758 why would you start taking any sort of tablets? what did you start taking? have you ever been tested to know your own status for herpes? does your partner have oral herpes and/or genital herpes?
Avatar f tn i used acyclovir tablets 3 tablets a day for 7 days. 39 days later i got test for hiv dou test (ab, ag) and for syphilis was both negative. 10 weeks later i got elisa test for hiv again was negative also. After my 10 weeks test i got symptoms 1.night sweats for 2 weeks my shirt get wet strongly 2.swollen lymph nodes in my neck, under my armpit and under my jaw. 3.neck pain and armpit pain. Now my questions: 1.am i good with these tests or should i get tested again? 2.
Avatar n tn If you are having ob's every other month then definitely suppressive therapy with acyclovir is the best choice for you. Why have ob's so often if you don't have to? Also just treating each ob as they occur isn't very helpful - it helps that ob heal faster but it does nothing to reduce the number of ob's you are having. If you've never read anything about suppressive therapy - check out the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com for more info on it.
Avatar f tn My daily suppressive theraphy is Acyclovir 400 miligrams two tablets a day. I have been taking acyclovir for some time now and the culture was tested for HSV2. I started taking it in June 2010 for episodes then I started taking it in September for suppressive theraphy two tablets a day. I am still taking suppressive theraphy as of now. However my outbreaks are getting better.I used to have an outbreak every month when I wasn't using meds.
Avatar m tn He suggested betnovate GM and acyclovir. I applied the cream and took the tablets. However, next day the red spots reduced and by next evening they were gone. My  question is 1) wont Betnovate inflame  HSV 2) can acyclovir act so quickly and 3) were the symptoms already during the fade period and hence the medication reacted quickly and finally could I have contracted herpes.
