Avatar n tn Is it possible that acyclovir might be the cause (side effect)? Can chronic fatigue cause neuropathy and/or neuralgia?
Avatar f tn i think this was the cause for my neuropathy. but im unsure. fast forward to a week and 1/2 ago i been expierencing some really weird symptoms i don't know where from. mind you i haven't had sex in 7 mths. And only had sex protected since 2011.
Avatar f tn i am taking ganapentin for diabetic neuropathy and i am wondering if i can take my valacyclovir with it does it have any problems if i take it together??
Avatar n tn The doc should hae prescibed Neurontin, Lyrica or something to help with neuropathy (nerve pain). The side effects of most of those drugs is drowsiness, so many try to forgoe the drugs and "tough it out". I, too, had neuropathy and tried many homeopathic/natural things and nothing really works. You might want to get some muscle cream that contains ingredients similar to hot chili peppers (Like Aspercream. Many docs use it in the hospital.
Avatar n tn Diagnosed hsv2 10 days later and took acyclovir 5 times a day for 10 days, may 16. I had hiv test on day 16 was negative. I also contacted person regarding history states she had test a month before our encounter not hiv? I was tested for clamidia , Ghonneria and syphillis. I still have this burning worse at night and am concerned it could be dangerous sometimes hard to sleep. I am on 500mg of acyclovir.
Avatar n tn does recurrent hsv 2 infections also trigger radiculitis or sacral neuropathy or menigitis? what is the likelihood of developing hsv encephalitis or meningitis during recurrent attacks? is the neurologic manifestations exclusive only during the primary infection? does taking anti-virals (acyclovir, valacyclovir) decrease the neuropathic complications or no effect at all?
Avatar f tn I don't care what some docs say I do believe Herpes can cause an array of neuropathic pain symptoms. I recently got diagnosed & have had chronic flareup of nerve pain in the distribution of the sacral dermatome (as the docs say), but also involving the entire spine into hands/arms, face/scalp ears. Perhaps there was an underlying neural excitability (i've suffered nerve pain from other diagnoses & multiple car accidents with neck/back sprains and a concussion).
Avatar f tn So he is retesting the ANA for Lupus and also for Peripheral Neuropathy. At this point I am very scared and not sure if these are symptoms from the Herpes or a result of trying the Aldara cream. I was recently prescribed Acyclovir 400mg 3xday and have been taking it for about 5 days. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms from Herpes, Peripheral Neuropathy? Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Main problem: Vaginal itching of 4 weeks duration following Acyclovir treatment of a positive Herpes (HSV) culture test. Tests for UTI, Yeast, and other STD's are negative or within normal limits. History: Approximately 3 weeks following unprotected intercourse with a new partner, I developed an ulcerated lesion on my labia minora and another in the vestibule with no other symptoms.
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor and he told me that it may be hsv2. Gave me acyclovir (cream) and HSV 2 igg and igm blood test instructions. It came negative (pretty low values). He then said it was not herpes, gave me a cream for fungus infection to replace the acyclovir and my mind was on ease finally. Symptoms gradually disappeared in 1 week. Never retracted my penis to check if the white dots disappeared or what. Week 13: Symptoms came back. This time worse. Now the sensitivity to cold stayed longer.
Avatar f tn I stopped taking acyclovir in December 2011. I have had numerous outbreaks like once a month or every couple of months. I have had HSV2 four years and four months now. My last outbreak was maybe eight weeks ago. Shouldn't my outbreaks decrease since I have had the virus for some time.I would like to know is that too many outbreaks to be experiencing.
Avatar m tn i started taking acyclovir a few days ago for the first time for a mild cold sore breakout. 2 days after i started, the cold sores got more intense, and 2 new huge cold sores came up out of nowhere. i have 3 more days left of the medication, and i'm going to keep taking it, but what should i do? these cold sores are not going away, and it seems like its getting worse! so done with these friggin things...
Avatar m tn Like most I cannot afford Valtrex any more. I have switched to Acyclovir. I've used it effectively for the couple of outbreaks but it seems to be taking considerably longer. I am taking L-Lysene as a suppressor and only take the Acyclovir at the first sign of an outbreak. I was taking 1000mg Valtrex at onset and then 500mg twice a day and everything was clear in 3 days. To get the same effectiveness from Acyclovir how much should I be taking daily during out breaks?
1302779 tn?1287405029 the doses you take for recurrences do tend to give the headaches :( do you take advil or anything along with the acyclovir knowing that it's likely to cause you to get a headache?
Avatar m tn Does Acyclovir make anyone else feel completely terrible? I get terrible headaches, dizzy, diarrhea and feel just awful. im not sure which is worse sometimes.
Avatar n tn Acyclovir is always 2x/day for suppressive therapy. You can not take acyclovir just 800mg 1x/day. It's not effective that way. Call your provider up and question that dose. If they say that that dose works too -ask them to please cite the research that backs that. I guarantee you they can't provide any that shows that 800mg once a day is effective for acyclovir!! do you have hsv1 or hsv2 genitally? How about orally - which one?
Avatar m tn Greatly simplified - you swallow valtrex and your body converts it into acyclovir inside the body. You get more active acyclovir available to kick a little herpes butt by doing it this way. That's why you take valtrex less often. We don't have studies to confirm that acyclovir reduces transmission the same amount as valtrex does but we assume it does. http://racoon.com/herpes/v_a_compare.htm this table comes directly from the valtrex full prescribing info.
Avatar m tn My guess would be because you get less active acyclovir in your body with plain ole acyclovir than you do valtrex but we have no studies to back this assumption.
Avatar m tn acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day every single day. she will still get recurrences while on daily suppressive therapy regardless of if she's on acyclovir or valtrex, you just take acyclovir more often than you do valtrex.
Avatar f tn s and viral shedding, the once daily doses of acyclovir were not effective. the half life of acyclovir is very short and just taking it daily is not enough to keep the virus under control adequately.
Avatar m tn valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug. when you swallow it, during digestion the body turns it into acyclovir. because of this unique delivery method, you get more active acyclovir available in the body so you don't have to take it as often.
