Avatar n tn Does Acyclovir alter or make a HIV TEST false negative. Does Omperazole alter it as well. I still have a red color rash on both sides of my thighs. I noticed the some of the hair follicles have dry white stuff, also there are bumps in some areas of the thigh. Thigh looks wrinkle. No sores. aT 10 Weeks I took a Proviral DNA by PCR Test and Elisa Test negative. At 13 weeks, I took an Home Access test which I was HIV negative.

Avatar f tn Common side effects are dizziness, ataxia, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, joint pain, motion sickness etc. You must tell your physician if you are allergic to valacyclovir or acyclovir. any kidney disease, blood disorders, immune deficiencies, dizziness etc. side effects associated are nausea, vomiting, fatigue, sore throat, hemolytic uremic syndrome etc. You need to be concerned about the cumulative side effects of the two drugs.
Avatar f tn I stopped taking acyclovir in December 2011. I have had numerous outbreaks like once a month or every couple of months. I have had HSV2 four years and four months now. My last outbreak was maybe eight weeks ago. Shouldn't my outbreaks decrease since I have had the virus for some time.I would like to know is that too many outbreaks to be experiencing.
Avatar m tn i started taking acyclovir a few days ago for the first time for a mild cold sore breakout. 2 days after i started, the cold sores got more intense, and 2 new huge cold sores came up out of nowhere. i have 3 more days left of the medication, and i'm going to keep taking it, but what should i do? these cold sores are not going away, and it seems like its getting worse! so done with these friggin things...
Avatar m tn Like most I cannot afford Valtrex any more. I have switched to Acyclovir. I've used it effectively for the couple of outbreaks but it seems to be taking considerably longer. I am taking L-Lysene as a suppressor and only take the Acyclovir at the first sign of an outbreak. I was taking 1000mg Valtrex at onset and then 500mg twice a day and everything was clear in 3 days. To get the same effectiveness from Acyclovir how much should I be taking daily during out breaks?
1302779 tn?1287405029 the doses you take for recurrences do tend to give the headaches :( do you take advil or anything along with the acyclovir knowing that it's likely to cause you to get a headache?
Avatar m tn Does Acyclovir make anyone else feel completely terrible? I get terrible headaches, dizzy, diarrhea and feel just awful. im not sure which is worse sometimes.
Avatar n tn That your lesions went away while you were taking acyclovir does not mean that the acyclovir made them go away – it could be a coincidence. Finally, your report that when you stop the acyclovir your glands swell in not something that happens with herpes. On the other hand, for a person to have their first outbreak of herpes after being infected for two years might happen but not in a person who had a negative blood test. You can believe whomever you wish.
Avatar m tn They almost always appear in the same spot, give or take an inch. If these are herpes outbreaks you might consider switching over to acyclovir as a test. If all you do is avoid sex during an outbreak, he has a 4% chance of getting it a year, or a 96% chance of not getting it. If you take the antivirals, then it drops to 2%, or a 98% chance.
Avatar n tn But i did find out that i have Herpes zoster antibodies ( i had Acyclovir for a week and it came down to 6 - normal levels ).. Normal TsH levels, normal ESR levels ( 12).. Low ferretin levels, low Vitamin D levels - we had iron & cholocalciferol medications, but did not seems to help. I never had any other symptoms like swollen lymph glands, or fever or nausea or dizziness or hospitalised etc..
Avatar f tn The side effects are too severe to continue on Valtrex. Dr. said to try acyclovir, but research shows it has the same ingredients only in lower milligram strength. Has anyone, who couldn't tolerate Valtrex, have success with acyclovir?
Avatar m tn i had brief protected vaginal sex with csw 5 weeks ago and condom was intact after water tested it, i got sick within 24 hour flu like symtoms fatigue, headache for two weeks no sore throat little nausea tender groin took all std test including hiv dna pcr test from labcorp 5 days post exposure. All test were negative except hsv1,after 10 days i went to Dr and they precibed doxycycline and cipro as i had little burning in urethra.
Avatar n tn Do all meds for suppression have similar side effects, such as headache? Acyclovir seems to be cheapest; I assume it is as effective as Valtrex? Do the side effects improve with time? I appreciate your feedback very much. It's hard to find good info.
Avatar n tn Acyclovir is always 2x/day for suppressive therapy. You can not take acyclovir just 800mg 1x/day. It's not effective that way. Call your provider up and question that dose. If they say that that dose works too -ask them to please cite the research that backs that. I guarantee you they can't provide any that shows that 800mg once a day is effective for acyclovir!! do you have hsv1 or hsv2 genitally? How about orally - which one?
Avatar m tn Greatly simplified - you swallow valtrex and your body converts it into acyclovir inside the body. You get more active acyclovir available to kick a little herpes butt by doing it this way. That's why you take valtrex less often. We don't have studies to confirm that acyclovir reduces transmission the same amount as valtrex does but we assume it does. http://racoon.com/herpes/v_a_compare.htm this table comes directly from the valtrex full prescribing info.
Avatar m tn My guess would be because you get less active acyclovir in your body with plain ole acyclovir than you do valtrex but we have no studies to back this assumption.
Avatar m tn acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day every single day. she will still get recurrences while on daily suppressive therapy regardless of if she's on acyclovir or valtrex, you just take acyclovir more often than you do valtrex.
Avatar f tn s and viral shedding, the once daily doses of acyclovir were not effective. the half life of acyclovir is very short and just taking it daily is not enough to keep the virus under control adequately.
Avatar m tn valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug. when you swallow it, during digestion the body turns it into acyclovir. because of this unique delivery method, you get more active acyclovir available in the body so you don't have to take it as often.
Avatar m tn acyclovir needs to be taken twice a day for suppressive therapy.
