Avatar n tn I have been on acyclovir (400mg) twice daily for the past 6 months. Prior to that I was taking Valtrex (500 mg) once daily for 18 months. For the past few months I have noticed that my blood pressure is elevated (140s-160s sys over 80s-90s dia). Could the use of acyclovir be causing this? Any insight is appreciated.
Avatar n tn He has had negative labs on all sexually transmitted diseases, no cancer cells in the blood, MRIs show nothing. Tolosa Hunt Syndrome was ruled out. He has cranial nerve damage to III, V1 V2 V3, VI. His lips are numb, tongue left side, and now is having problems swallowing. Before all the above, he had a skin cancer removed from his nose, surgeon went very deep into the mid top of nose, and he pulled skin over nose rather than skin graft.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with SHINGLES in my cranial nerves and central nervous system. Six weeks of acyclovir and poof head pressure gone. The down side of it is, it caused permanent nerve damage, so some of the symptoms may never go away.' I have been taking acyclovir on and off when I had cold sores attacks. My questions are: does acyclovir affect central nervous system? Can you please give me more details about the diagnosis: ?
Avatar f tn actually with oral acyclovir ( the pill form you are taking ), there isn't a risk of kidney issues as long as you aren't elderly and don't have any underlying kidney disorders. No need to increase your water intake, just drink the normal amount of fluids that you always do :) there also isn't any reason for any routine blood work because of being on suppressive therapy - just a fyi. are you taking 400mg twice a day for suppressive therapy?
Avatar f tn t have to tell me), so maybe your doctor looked at the wrong dosing info. The only real concern is long-term use and kidney damage, especially if you have a kidney disorder now. Remember that the chance of him getting herpes from you is low. He has about a 98% chance of NOT getting it each year. He probably thinks you're worth the risk.
895634 tn?1283989210 If this should happen for too long it can damage your kidney or cause kidney failure. Not something you want to happen which is why you need to see a Urologist very soon. As the above text states, a change in diet and the amount of water a person drink can lessen the future chances of recurring stones. But there are some of us like hrsepwrguy and myself, that have stones chronically. When ever I have an ultrasound, CT scan or MRI kidney stones are found.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with genital hsv2 about 3 months ago through PP. The initial outbreak was almost over when I was tested so I don't know if the acyclovir aided in clearing it up or not. I was told to take it 3x a day whenever I first notice symptoms and continue for 7-10 days, longer if it isn't cleared up yet. I've had at least 2 more outbreaks in the same spot since then and been taking the acyclovir for about a month straight right now.
Avatar f tn From the posts I read it seems that many were taking above the max dose 4000 mg of acetaminfen daily. Irreversable liver/kidney damage has always been a big concern to me which is why I never exceed the 4000 mg a day. I just had blood drawn yesterday & will nervously await the results. If they tell me my enzymes are higher it will be easier to quit. I think. Have any of you had any damage to liver/kidney damage as a result of your vicodin use?
Avatar f tn give the acyclovir a try - you get less active acyclovir with plain acyclovir so you might have less side effects. You also can try famvir too.
Avatar n tn I have recently found out that I have HSV-1 (IgG=41). Not sure if it was from past sexual encounters or even before that, but doesn't matter anymore. I've read somewhere online before that taking acyclovir or valacyclovir every day consistently might result in a negative HSV test. My questions are: 1. Does that work and is that recommended, if not, why? 2.
Avatar n tn Hello Ursamere. As you probably know, we're not physicians here, but are happy to share our experiences with you so you can explore the ideas further with your diabetes team. I'm also a long-time DMer - about 35 years. 5.6 is an excellent a1c and as one who's not (yet) achieved an a1c under 6, I admire the work & discipline it takes to achieve that.
Avatar f tn I was tested for the first time in 2009, since then I have been on acyclovir. I went to my doctor because I was staying raw and was burning in my vaginal area. I had a herpeselect test. It came back >5 for herpes 1, and 1.4 for herpes 2. I was first put on Valtrex, but then changed to acyclovir, because Valtrex made me so sick. Nothing has helped with the rawness and burning, and now my neurologist states I have central nervous system damage. I am getting sicker everyday! Please help me!
Avatar m tn I was was also detected pre diabetic with Ha1bc 8.5 and SGOT and way high at 220. I was kept under Acyclovir 400 gms thrice a day. It worked. After 3 weeks I was told to reduce the dosage to 2 times a day and do the test again after 3 months. After 3 months my diabetic condition was better controlled at ha1bc 6.4. An i did not have any outbreak of the HSV 1. But the second test after 3 months had a increased igg value from 5.1 to 6.3.

Avatar f tn The only way to truly ease your mind is by being totally honest with him/her. I have liver damage and kidney damage due to drugs stage 2 liver stage 3 kidney.. if your liver were damaged and you had a flare your belly would be extended/pain upper right you would be lethargic/vomiting.. other symptoms but these being severe.. It is not fun and I would not wish it on anyone.. I contracted hep C from slamming and further continued the damage through pills/alcohol..
Avatar n tn [1] Stage 2 Mild reduction in GFR (60-89 mL/min/1.73 m2) with kidney damage. Kidney damage is defined as pathologic abnormalities or markers of damage, including abnormalities in blood or urine test or imaging studies.[1] Stage 3 Moderate reduction in GFR (30-59 mL/min/1.73 m2).[1] British guidelines distinguish between stage 3A (GFR 45-59) and stage 3B (GFR 30-44) for purposes of screening and referral.
Avatar f tn Seems to me acyclovir wears off during the night v lasts longer... Had a previous prescription. No test for bacteria infection, but always gets this way. Very careful about keeping clean and not touching.
Avatar f tn See your gynecologist again or go to your regular physician where s/he will probably direct you to someone who specializes in things like nerve damage. Definitely do something about the kidney infection. Are you getting treated for it? If not, start getting treated for it immediately.
Avatar n tn Awaiting another derm appt.Took acyclovir for a few years prophylactically as occurrences are 3-4 times per month. Went off meds (worry about long term effects) and just bore with it for a few years. Then recurrences became very frequent and it is the pain prior that is most difficult - I get severe pain in my head, and behind my eye. The pain is debilitating. I recently began taking Valtrex 500 and it has helped enormously but I have some questions.
Avatar m tn I had an unprotected sex one and a half month ago.I then cleaned my penis with undiluted bleaching detergent(jik) and washed it of with cold water.I also used a libido/performance enhancer bought across the counter. After about 2-3 weeks, I developed 3 clear n' painless blisters next 2 the glans of my penis.I visited a GP who prescribed a VDRL n' HIV tests, both of which were -ve.He also ordered urinalysis n' a few pus cells were seen.
Avatar m tn I was dating a woman that had HSV-2. She told me she was taking suppressive therapy in the form of acyclovir. I was told by a doctor 10+ years ago I had oral herpes. About 4 months ago I had a strange rash develop around my face. It was very light sensitive. My derm told me it was only perioral dermititis and not herpes. This rash persisted for several months and about 2 months ago I started to get strange pains in my legs. I decided to take a blood test and I was positive HSV1 IGG 15.
Avatar m tn I fear pills in general, I feel like they must be doing some damage to my system on some level. I do take them during outbreaks, however. They are also very expensive! Do you have any suggestions on where to get lower cost meds? The free clinic would only give me acyclovir, not valtrex. They also would only give me enough for one breakout. The acyclovir also gives me diarrhea. :) Thanks, I appreciate you very much.
Avatar f tn I was given medication for and kidney infection and Acyclovir 800mg 5 X daily. However, before I could make my appointment the pain got worst I could barely walk and urination literally brought tears to my eyes so I went back to the emergency room. I noticed more swelling of the clitoris and vaginal opening additionally a few open cuts or ulcers where I had shaved prior.
