Acyclovir how long does it take to work

Common Questions and Answers about Acyclovir how long does it take to work

Does anyone know how long acyclovir take to work?
yesterday and he said with the more frequent OB's he was going to prescribe me 400mg acyclovir to take twice daily for suppression. My question is, how much of a reduced number of OB's should I expect and does taking this medication cause any birth defects as my wife and I are talking of maybe having another child. Thanks in advance.
So, its either working because it is herpes or its working b/c something in the meds helps balance something out and causes the cuts to subside. who knows....and to those that say, just take it... Yeah, I get that, but who wants to be on daily meds (that are not cheap) if its not herpes?
Finally, you and your partner need to make a decision about how much hassle you are willing to endure to prevent transmission. If your relationship evolves into a committed, permantent one, you might decide to just let nature take its course; if transmission occurs, effective treatment is available -- and in that cirumcstance, there presumably would be no concern about transmitting herpes to yet another person.
my right seems to have gone back to regular size but my left one is huge to the point where it's starting to scare me.
to suppress your current outbreak..to totally cover the outbreak's you take it everyday..the gray area is how long i follow the prescription..but for everyday..hmmm..onething is do not trust Doctor's i think we have all had bad experience .Multiple Visit's , miss informed and bad information..hours online etc etc...I'm in a relationship and we decided to take it everyday...
hes letting me know that its a turn off if i insist on certain things.
it's been available in a generic version for a long time now and is usually the most affordable option. You have to take acyclovir twice a day suppressively. how to make treating your herpes more affordable? Well if you have insurance look into your options. If you have a copay - many insurances have a mail order pharmacy program that if you utilize it you can save money on your copays ( and it also beats going to the local pharmacy each month too ).
Although the physican first told me there would be no sign of anything a week after I saw him, he told me now (over the phone) it may take a month for everything to clear. I have read that it is supposed to be all clear once the scabs disappear, but is it normal a scar line or other marks to linger for weeks after the scabs disappear?
The pharmicist on duty yesterday forgot to tell them so they mailed it out, which means it will take up to 10 days to get to me. A lot of freakin good it is going to do then. And life goes on.
You don't shed herpes from all over the body. No need to take zovirax if you don't have herpes. You really don't even need to take it even if you do have herpes. it's totally your choice and depends on your partner's status, if you have hsv1 or hsv2 and how often you are getting recurrences. Yes you can still potentially transmit the virus to your partner in between obvious ob's. Indeed that is covered in the book!
I googled herpes and interferon and it appeared that it is a tx for herpes. Nitramog says his herpes virus has stopped breaking out since starting tx. But the info I saw wasn't saying it was a cure, just helps some. Obviously you are not one of the lucky ones. Don't be embarrassed about herpes, a lot of us here (myself) have a lot more to be embarrassed about in our past life. Mkeela I think you are hiding it well if you are having a bad case of ribarage. I am not treating and am more volatile.
I have never had unprotected sex, but I regularly had unprotected oral sex. Could it be that it just hasn't been long enough for there to be high enough numbers?
So after everything with the school nurse, I went to the VA and had a blood test done for HSV and the results were negative. When I got the test I began to take acyclovir that day in case I did have it. Since taking the medication for the last 6 days or so the burning urination has subsided, but since 2/16 I have had uncontrollable itching in my urethra and the swelling in the right side of my penis is still present.
it's nearly impossible to do because so many are new they don't know how to post or how to title it or how it works on a board so they open a new question every time they have a question. There should be some instructions or something on the first page. I guess the best way to access info here is to google it rather than use the "search/browse archives" feature. That way it will come up by subject but if you try to find info by looking thru thread titles you can't find it by titles.
I tried to ask but they could give me the test today because they said I needed to not eat for 12 hours prior to getting tested. Does that mean that being on acyclovir or Valtrex will interfere with the blood test? There are still active sores that haven't healed so I'm hoping that a culture can be done. I've taken one acyclovir 800mg tablet today but I don't take another one tonight if you are telling me that it will kill any active virus that may show up on the results.
Ive had it longer and in the last two years have been fighting this pain in back of thighs and butt, my doctors think its my back, i have a really messed up lower spine but none of the shots theyve tried do anything for this terrible burning pain, makes it impossible to sit at work without pain meds....what can i take? do any of the hepes drugs help you? ive no sores or anyhting, ive been taking acyclovir everyday for almost 30 years and never get any outbreaks....
Geez, sorry my diagnosis was right, just sounded so familiar. I went to a walk-in-clinic this summer to find out about my "rash" and when I found it was shingles I never even thought to mention it to my hep c doc. Sounds like it was a good thing I didn't, if your is thinking of cutting you off tx. I would absolutely insist on carrying through with tx, what's more deadly???
From a quick look at the website, I believe it is quackery. acyclovir works by being taken systemically, not by putting it on or injecting it into herpes lesions. In summary, it is possible you have genital herpes but I doubt it. If you do, herpes is not the cause of most of the symptoms you describe. Find a truly herpes knowledgeable health care provider, discuss this advice with him or her, and get a proper HSV blood test.
As far as medicating this current ob, I noticed it late Saturday night and wasn't able to get to pharmacy until today when I came into work, is it worth going to get the prescription filled if they've already been active for a a couple days? Would the meds still help?
you were given the wrong dose of acyclovir. You were given the shingles dose. no harm to taking it but no reason to do so. You only need to take acyclovir 400mg 3x/day for 7-10 days to help speed healing of ob's. once you know if you have hsv1 or hsv2, you'll be able to decide how to treat your herpes from this point forward. I hope you have had time to read the free herpes handbook that mistakeguy recommended already to learn more about both types in the genital area.
If this just arised today itself, if it's a blister, how many days will it stay right there just to know if it's herpes? how can I really Identify if it's a pimple or herpes?, it's only 1..
I really want to know more about sexual contact between two HSV2 positive people and the risks 3) how many and how often does one have to have an outbreak to consider suppressive therapy. I was prescribed valtrex for this initial outbreak, and it has cleared up. I think it works for me. Is it possible to get an Rx from a doc just to have on hand when you feel one coming on?
So this time I decided to only take Echinacea, and so far it has work very very well for me, no weight gain/outbreaks so far. I take three 400mg capsules, once, daily, and when I feel the stinging/itching sensation I take 3 capsules twice a day, and no outbreaks so far. Keep up the good works guys, it's good discussions like this that makes me want to share my personal experience and help others.
I finally forced myself to masturbate because I wanted to see if that would alleviate the pain in my testicles, but not only was it a painful process, but the ejaculation itself was very painful, felt the same burning sensation as the rash but like it was inside. Bad idea. (however, it does not hurt at all to pee.) Went to urologist, told me the same thing every other doctor has said -- nothing to worry about here, your penis just looks irritated, come back in a week.
The FDA has approved suppressive therapy for up to a year however the reason for this duration is because that is how long it was studied (the FDA can only approve what is studied). There are many people who have taken suppressive therapy for more than five years without consequences. The data are better for acyclovir than for valacyclovir simply becasue acyclovir has been around longer.
What are the odds that a healthy women such as my self in pretty good shape would get sick one day and have these lesions in my mouth and then find that I have HSV2 but the lesions have nothing to do with it ? Do you think it was related?I feel just fine now. Just lost my appetite a lot.My Bf told me that 22 years ago he and his wife had genital warts that were burned off with a dropler bottle type thing..does this have anything to do with my symptoms?
