Avatar f tn Herpes questions belong in the herpes or STD forums. This forum is HIV-specific.
Avatar m tn //www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn_oralherpes.cfm has terrific info on oral herpes for additional reading. sounds like they threw the book at you medicine wise. topical zovirax doesn't do a whole heck of a lot for cold sores, especially if symptoms have been there for several days. at this point even acyclovir orally isn't going to do a whole lot either. no idea why they prescribed an antibiotic for you. not sure what the last medication you listed is for.
Avatar f tn Long-term use of acyclovir for up to 10 years for HSV suppression is effective and well tolerated. Acyclovir is also approved for use in children, is available in some countries over the counter in cream formulation for herpes labialis, and has been monitored in over 1000 pregnancies. Safety monitoring data from clinical trials of valacyclovir, involving over 3000 immunocompetent and immunocompromised persons receiving long-term therapy for HSV suppression, were analyzed.
Avatar f tn m worried about Herpes on the lips. My ex-partner used to have Herpes labialis outbreaks quite often, and since I already have had HSV myself I was not worrying to much about kissing him while having outbreaks on his lips. I know that salvia sort of inactives HIV, so I'm not afraid HIV could be transmitted by kissing under those conditions. The only thing is, that I'm not sure if he might have had an acute Herpes labialis outbreak while performing oral sex on me.
Avatar n tn Refractory chapping may be one manifestation of herpes-labialis infection. Topical medicine will often be required for this. The most commonly used would be Silica Gel or Topical Acyclovir Cream. Before embarking on a course of therapy, however, it would be wise to consult with a dermatologist, for if the infection leads to actual wounds, additional therapy, such as occlusion therapy, may be warranted. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Signs, Symptoms, and Diagnosis Primary infection occurs most often in children, exhibiting vesicles and erosions on reddened buccal mucosa, the palate, tongue or lips (acute herpetic gingivostomatitis) (Fig. 15). Herpes labialis, (fever blisters or cold sores) appears as grouped vesicles on red denuded skin, usually the vermilion border of the lip; infection represents reactivated HSV.
Avatar n tn Hi, This could be acne, allergic reaction to some substance, eczema or even herpes labialis. Whether the current lesions and the symptoms you had previously are the same cannot be said with surety. It would be best to drink plenty of water, apply a medicated lip balm with sunscreen and replace any deficient minerals and vitamins in your diet. You could take some oral antihistamine medications lie cetrizine or loratadine and see if it helps with your symptoms.
Avatar m tn Hi guys, I've always been suffering from herpes labialis since I was a kid, however the most recent outbreak came with something new and unexpected, as I started feeling pain at my right eye and I experienced a severe toothache as well. The toothache is still going on after 4 days of damn pain. I'm wondering if herpes could have run through other nerves, the mandibular in my case:( what do you think?
Avatar m tn Clinically, it very much sounds like Herpes labialis (cold sores; fever blisters). It can be triggered by sun exposure, fever, and stress (among other causes). Burning, itching or tingling sensation occur even before lesions appear. An outbreak in lip area starts with small blisters (vesicles) filled with clear yellowish fluid, on a swallen, red, painful area. Blisters burst and ooze. Finally, yellow crusts form. Herpes labialis can be treated both topically and orally with anti-viral drugs.
Avatar m tn The day after I experienced chills, leg fatigue, shivering, total loss of appetite, insomnia, hot flushes to the face, and herpes labialis appeared, but resolved in two days after topical Zovirax. Symptoms remain the same. Obviously I severely anxious, scared, depressed and devoured by guilt. My questions are: 1. What is my risk of contracting HIV? 2. Could the symptoms of ARS appear so early? 3. Could this herpes be newly acquired and do I need any test?
Avatar f tn Exfoliative cheilitis seems to have a number of triggers and some people who have it claim it came with getting herpes labialis.. Furthermore they have suggested that antivirals and lysine have shown help such as they would assist hsv.
Avatar m tn virest is just a generic brand name for acyclovir. Acyclovir does not cure herpes. It impedes replication of the virus in the body but it still doesn't completely prevent shedding of the virus or stop ob's completely. It's a treatment, not a cure.
Avatar m tn D) And if my girlfriend is tested positive for Herpes labialis and i in the other hand genital herpes, will I get Herpes labialis from kissing her ?
Avatar m tn s he was going to prescribe me 400mg acyclovir to take twice daily for suppression. My question is, how much of a reduced number of OB's should I expect and does taking this medication cause any birth defects as my wife and I are talking of maybe having another child. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Hello! I have had herpes for about 8 years. The first outbreak was blisters on my labia majora on one side, and swollen spots itchy spots near by on my buttocks on the other side, with pain my my leg bones. I was never told what type I had. I was very uneducated and clueless at that time, and I think I might have spread it all over my body by scratching, including my eyes. But I did not have any other outbreak until 2009, which was swollen itchy spots on my buttocks.
Avatar f tn He decided to take my blood for STD tests, including Herpes (both types). The results for HSV2 antibodies came back NEGATIVE (0.3). Now my question is... Do I have genital herpes or not?? Or was the 2nd negative result due to the suppressive Acyclovir I've been taking for the past 4 months? How can I really be sure whether or not I have the virus?
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with herpes, (apparently I'm one of the people who have had it for a long time and did not know it) and was given Valtrex to take to help with the outbreak. I have finished this and am now ready to start suppressive medication daily. My gyn has suggested taking 500mg of valtrex daily and my family docotor suggested taking 200mg daily of Acyclovir.
Avatar m tn Hi all. I have had herpes 2 in my genitals for two years now and my girlfriend recently went to the gynecologist and asked about risks associated with having sex with me, etc. She mentioned that I experience between 8 and 10 outbreaks per year and her gynecologist suggested that I may have another underlying condition, infection perhaps that results in so many outbreaks. Last month a started taking 800mg of acyclovir daily to see if that would reduce my outbreaks and shedding.
Avatar f tn I went to get checked and the ob/gyn immediately believed it was herpes. That day I took a blood test and a culture test and a few days later i found it was positive for the blood test (I am not sure what type.) and negative for the culture test. A few months before this I got checked for the same reason, discomfort after shaving and the same doctor reassured me that it was from the shaving. Is it possible that I had herpes all along or is it possible that the blood test was wrong???
Avatar m tn You keep returning to this and other forums with the same questions again and again. Do you really imagine the answers will change? As you have been told many times, testing is always more reliable than symptoms, and your tests prove you do not have HIV. You also are negative for a number of other virues, none of which is a likely cause of symptoms like yours anyway. As for your "herpes symptoms", you don't have those either.
