Avatar f tn I stopped taking acyclovir in December 2011. I have had numerous outbreaks like once a month or every couple of months. I have had HSV2 four years and four months now. My last outbreak was maybe eight weeks ago. Shouldn't my outbreaks decrease since I have had the virus for some time.I would like to know is that too many outbreaks to be experiencing.
Avatar m tn i started taking acyclovir a few days ago for the first time for a mild cold sore breakout. 2 days after i started, the cold sores got more intense, and 2 new huge cold sores came up out of nowhere. i have 3 more days left of the medication, and i'm going to keep taking it, but what should i do? these cold sores are not going away, and it seems like its getting worse! so done with these friggin things...
Avatar m tn Like most I cannot afford Valtrex any more. I have switched to Acyclovir. I've used it effectively for the couple of outbreaks but it seems to be taking considerably longer. I am taking L-Lysene as a suppressor and only take the Acyclovir at the first sign of an outbreak. I was taking 1000mg Valtrex at onset and then 500mg twice a day and everything was clear in 3 days. To get the same effectiveness from Acyclovir how much should I be taking daily during out breaks?
1302779 tn?1287405029 the doses you take for recurrences do tend to give the headaches :( do you take advil or anything along with the acyclovir knowing that it's likely to cause you to get a headache?
Avatar m tn Does Acyclovir make anyone else feel completely terrible? I get terrible headaches, dizzy, diarrhea and feel just awful. im not sure which is worse sometimes.
Avatar n tn Why was it suggested? Who suggested it to you? This supplement seems like it's designed for bodybuilders. It's not regulated by the FDA, so a pharmacist may not have information on contraindications. Still, a call to your Copaxone pharmacy as well as your PCP are in order.

Avatar n tn What is the generic name, chemical name, classification and contraindications for Lyvoxil?
Avatar n tn I would look into the pharmaceutical company that makes Arimidex and see what contraindications are listed, including food and supplements. Might even be worth putting in an email to them.
Avatar f tn I would say if your doctor prescribed them because your blood was sticky he/she has weighed the benefits vs risk. Does the doctor know about your condition?
Avatar n tn Here are the contraindications for Malaria vaccine (yellow fever) from the CDC web site. It looks like HCV is OK but HIV is contraindicated.
Avatar n tn I would like to know if there are any contraindications with taking the herb red yeast rice with these prescription medications: Topromax 100 mg bid; Zoloft 200 mg @ hs; Xanax 0.5 mg @ hs PRN and oxycodone 5 mg 2 tabs bid for chronic pain. The red yeast rice will be for reducing my elevated Cholesterol as noted: (VLDL=18; TRIGLYCERIDES=92; LDL=155; HDL=59; TOTAL CHOLESTEROL=232). I was initially prescribed Crestor 5 mg by my PCP but due to some severe side affects I stopped taking it.
Avatar m tn You probably shouldn't take this with anything -- it isn't a very clean product. Contains some things in the inactive department that aren't good to take, such as talc and certain preservatives and sugar. It's basically hops, valerian and gentian, and you can get much purer versions of these if you stick to the better herb companies rather than television and internet marketers.
Avatar f tn You can look this up by googling saffron and its contraindications. You can also manage this stuff by buying a good herbal -- Prescription for Nutritional Healing and its companion Prescription for Herbal Healing are pretty good places to start. If you Google citalopram, it will also list contraindications, and some sites will have herbs as well. I don't know that saffron will be listed, though, as it's not been as commonly used as many others.
Avatar n tn Acyclovir is always 2x/day for suppressive therapy. You can not take acyclovir just 800mg 1x/day. It's not effective that way. Call your provider up and question that dose. If they say that that dose works too -ask them to please cite the research that backs that. I guarantee you they can't provide any that shows that 800mg once a day is effective for acyclovir!! do you have hsv1 or hsv2 genitally? How about orally - which one?
Avatar m tn Greatly simplified - you swallow valtrex and your body converts it into acyclovir inside the body. You get more active acyclovir available to kick a little herpes butt by doing it this way. That's why you take valtrex less often. We don't have studies to confirm that acyclovir reduces transmission the same amount as valtrex does but we assume it does. http://racoon.com/herpes/v_a_compare.htm this table comes directly from the valtrex full prescribing info.
Avatar m tn My guess would be because you get less active acyclovir in your body with plain ole acyclovir than you do valtrex but we have no studies to back this assumption.
Avatar m tn acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day every single day. she will still get recurrences while on daily suppressive therapy regardless of if she's on acyclovir or valtrex, you just take acyclovir more often than you do valtrex.
Avatar f tn s and viral shedding, the once daily doses of acyclovir were not effective. the half life of acyclovir is very short and just taking it daily is not enough to keep the virus under control adequately.
