Avatar f tn Hi Dr. I was diagnosed with HSV1 and HSV2 in April 2008, but I have been having rashes on the left side of my head and on my buttock for at least 10 years now. In 2005 I was rushed to the EMR with my whole left side of the body paralized. After been tested for strokes, tumors etc. I was referred to an ENT clinic where I was diagnosed with Meniere's disease, and treated for it with no success.
230948 tn?1235844329 Hi uk2--I am by no means an expert on Meniere's, but I believe the MOST COMMON and basic treatment is a low-salt diet and use of a diuretic to keep the level of body fluids evened out over the day (because, traditionally at least, Meniere's is considered a type of endolymphatic hydrops and thus is affected by level of body fluids--as you may know, the inner ear is filled with fluid).
Avatar m tn Ugh...I'll try to make this brief, but for the third year in a row--and the exact same time of year--my left ear has suddenly gone almost completely deaf with on/off tinnitus, and all day yesterday I stumbled around like a drunk because of severe vertigo that came out of nowhere. It's about 50% better now. I googled these symptoms together and kept landing on Meniere's disease pages...so I am tempted to see an ENT or audiologist, but there's a big catch.
Avatar m tn My daughter was diagnosed with Behcet's in 2008. Then in 2009 she contracted herpes (hsv2). She is now having an outbreak of herpes (starting to get under control after 2 rounds of valtrex, back on acyclovir for 2 days) and a flare of Behcet's. Prednisone will make the painful vaginal Behcet's lesions go away but will cause another outbreak of herpes. Does anyone have any suggestions? She's about to leave for a required college trip. Thanks.
Avatar f tn My doctor was referring to a study wehre Acyclovir slowed disease progression in HIV by reducing viral load. And so he thought Acyclovir might have a direct effect (even if it is low) on HIV. Maybe he thought that by decreasing viral load antybodies would show up later than in the absence of Acyclovir?
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with Meniere's but the medicine Meclizine does not hep me at all, when I am having major vertigo I have to take valuim. This is the only medicine that will work for my vertigo. Thank God I have not had to take any for over a year now because I have found that I have allergies. I get 3 shots a week and this has helped (along with prayer) to take away my vertigo. Have you been checked for allergies? I would have never knew I was that bad with allergies until I was tested.
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and prescribed Plaquenil and naproxen (for swelling and pain relief.) I am on a low sodium diet for meniere's disease. Various pain relievers make me retain fluid......making me too dizzy and light headed to drive. Can you recommend a product, OTC or prescription, that contains little to no sodium? I have read the sodium in pain relievers help to quicken relief of pain......
Avatar n tn Once and awhile I will get a migraine often accompanied with with a scalp breakout and I stop taking the Acyclovir and lysine until the pain goes away. Then I resume my acyclovir and lysine. I now rarely have any problems. But I always have to go a week once and a while without my Acyclovir and Lysine. Is the herpes virus simply one of my triggers or is the herpes virus the root cause off all my migraines, I don't know. The pain and breakouts are always hemispheric in nature.
Avatar f tn Your question doesn't entirely make sense -- "the best alternative for meniere's"? Do you mean the best treatment? Hearing aids or implants are only potentially appropriate for later stage disease in which the patient has permanently lost significant hearing. One of the defining features of Meniere's is that the hearing loss is fluctuating (early on) -- it goes away (to a degree) and then comes back.
Avatar f tn This is going to be quite a long post, because I feel it's best to detail about every past/present medical issue I've had, in hopes that mentioning every and any symptom I've had will help identify what's wrong with me. So. I am a 21 year old female, and in the past few years I've had increasingly more noticable symptoms of general lightheadedness, ringing in my ears, trouble hearing, and constant tiredness.
Avatar f tn A quick FYI- if u r taking NSAIDS for the migraines they could be the cause of ur tinnitus...... ************************************************************************************************** What Causes Tinnitus? Most tinnitus comes from damage to the inner ear, specfically the cochlea (the snail like thing on the right).
Avatar n tn Few Lesions (pimple like with red base) come and go everywhere in my body (cheeks, forehead, ear pinna, eyelids, chest, arm, forearm...). I have took acyclovir only for 10 days in October and am suffering a couple of lesions coming up and clearing in few days every now and then. This is companied by random itching occurring in different parts of the body without visible lesions, I also felt some shooting pain for a few seconds (rarely) into my penis.
Avatar n tn A friend of mine's daughter was diagnosed with Meniere's several years ago. She was told to strictly limit salt intake in her diet. She's done so and has not had problems with Meniere's since. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn I would also guess Meniere's disease. I found out I had it when I went to an otolaryngologist. Sounds like the same symptoms I had. You also mentioned having glue ear when you were younger. I also had that. My "cure" came when I went gluten free (no wheat, barley, rye or oats). I suspect Meniere's is part hormone imbalance and the diet (in my case) corrected the problem. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I have RRMS, diagnosed 2 months ago and just started Rebif. My question is, I also have Meniere's Disease and accute osteoarthritis. There are many interacting symptoms and I never know what I'm feeling. The most aggrivating one recently is muscle knee pain so intense sometimes I need help getting up. Both knees have been replaced many years ago and the hardware has been declared flawless. What's up? I'm constantly dizzy. Is that the MS or the Meniere's?
Avatar n tn Allergies, alone, wouldn't explain dizziness and vomiting. Allergies could affect the inner ear and cause an out-of-balance feeling, similar to what people experience during an episode of motion sickness. There's no allergy that I'm aware of that would directly cause dizziness/vomiting. You mentioned Meniere's disease, but vertigo isn't always Meniere's.
Avatar f tn My dad has had many episodes of feeling dizzy (feel like the world is spinning), experiencing vomiting and having bowel movement in the meantime. His symptems looks very much like Meniere's Disease, but Meniere's Disease doesn't say the patient would experience bowel movement while having vertigo attack. So I wonder if any body has similar experience? Does my dad has Meniere's Disease or it's something else? Any hospital or clinic is specialized in this? I really appreciate!
