Avatar_n_tn If you have a lesion in an area that is causing a lot of pain and if it is so positioned that by putting a finger or two on it then put some thing on your hand and cover the area by pressing down and covering the area which will make it less painful to go to the bathroom. To make you feel better as well bath in either Aveeno or Epsom salts to sooth your aching body.
Avatar_f_tn That is a question for your ophthalmologist.
Avatar_f_tn I generally feel mentally slow, it feels like its a struggle to grasp concepts and intense cognition its exhausting. After that one week of taking acyclovir, 24 hours later I developed this tension type headache, ranging from mild-moderate in pain. It becomes worse when lying down and pain is located at the back of the neck and on the top of head. I have had this headache for every second of every day since i stopped taking acyclovir. I never feel like doing anything because this is headache.
Avatar_f_tn But by the end of week 2, more sores started appearing and my urination started to get very painful again. I should say I am on acyclovir 400 mgs twice/day, and was on an antibiotic the first week, plus pain pills. I went back to doctor today because of the new outbreak and she upped the acyclovir to 400 mgs every 4 hrs and put me on another antiobiotic for a bacterial infection.
Avatar_f_tn I had suffered fever for 13days and was only diagnosed with Viral Menigitis on the 15days after a lumbar tap. I was given an IVof NS and acyclovir(prophylaxis accdg to my doctor) for 3 days every 8 hours. My fever subsided and totally gone, and headache started. Tylenol ES was not effective with this headache and I was prescribed with Hydromorph 3mgSR every 12 hours and then 1 mg breakthrough every 6hours. It helps me for a week.
Avatar_f_tn Thank you for getting back to me- i forgot to mention he has seen his Doctor and is on 4000 mg acyclovir a day-( since Wednesday today is Sunday and is to continue taking it for 10 days) the swelling has gotten worse- both eyes are swollen as is the bridge of his nose-he has a catlike or lion like appearance swollen and flat between the eyes- the area where the tear ducts are- is swollen his eyelashes get caught on the bridge of his nose-hsi eliptical folds are disappearing-he can see clearly-
Avatar_f_tn I was diagnosed with hsv2 and am in the middle of an outbreak now and today i started to experience tingling and numbness in my butt and has moved down the back of my legs and to meet feet is that a symptom of hsv2 or could it be from my medication which is acyclovir?
Avatar_n_tn My experience started one day when I woke up with quite severe left sided eye pain, swelling and redness. I thought it was from perhaps a foreigh body so I rinsed it and used some drops. After many hours it subsided but left me with a bit of tearing and a dull ache. Around that time I also had a bit of an ear ache external which really wasn't that bothersome. Prior to this my upper left gums was giving me some problems bleeding and uncomfortable.
Avatar_n_tn I have been to internist, dermatologist, opthomologist, therapist, neurologist, neurosurgeon and have had differing opinions from all. acyclovir, time and Ibuprofen have been the best healers, in my opinion, even with taking neurontin. If I lower my dosage of acyclovir below 600mg/day, the symptoms (right arm pain and blisters) begin again. My dermatologist told me I will probably have to take acyclovir the rest of my life.
Avatar_f_tn I even started taking echinacea to boost my immune system. I will try calamine lotion, warm compresses and neosporin. I already take ibuprofen or boswellia for inflammation. My main other concern is why does my urethra hurt still when I pee?
Avatar_f_tn so i did my own daignosis, when i feel my back and hips pain in the nerves, i take acyclovir .... and in two days the pain in gone...i do feel that the virus has gone beyond the sacral area, travels up the spine and travels to the skull, i have tmj and after a flair up the pain i feel in my hip, goes to my jaw, my ears ring as well....yes this is a hells disease...
Avatar_f_tn Follow up planned in 2 months w dr and 6 months for repeat u/s. I have continued to take the oral antibiotics as well as ibuprofen but the lump is getting larger and the pain/pressure is increasing. I'm very uncomfortable as well as concerned. I hate to bother my dr.s yet again but I don't understand why my symptoms have not improved. Please if anyone has had a similar case or know of one please share.
Avatar_n_tn as soon as you start feeling that tingle, start your acyclovir and take ibuprofen. you can take the ibuprofen every 6 hours to help with the neuralgia symptoms. what drug and what dose were you on for suppressive therapy ? you will still have recurrences even while on it but they will be less often than when not on it.
272338_tn?1252284004 Unfortunately they are on my face, on the left side from my top lip up into my hairline. My Dr prescribed acyclovir and then I had to go back and get drops for my eye as they were begining to spread there. As of today, they swelling is starting to go down and the pain is easing up. What I was wondering was if there is anything I can use on them to ease the burning sensation and flaking skin?
101028_tn?1419606604 Both the herpes handbook at and the herpes info at have terrific info on herpes and treatments to learn more at. Be prepared when you talk to your doctor so that the two of you can make decisions together about how to treat your herpes. Genital herpes treatments are patient driven - the patient gets to make most of the choices about it. So what are your treatment choices? Well first off - you can chose to do absolutely nothing if you want.
Avatar_f_tn I feel so stupid and I don't know what I'm going to do. I'm in so much pain...physically and emotionally. I've been prescribed with acyclovir, but that's not taking away the soreness or the burning while peeing.I feel so stupid and ashamed asking this, but does anyone know of any type of over the counter cream that I could apply to the area to take away some of this pain?
Avatar_m_tn I went to the doctor and she briefly looked at it and said that it was herpes. There were no tests done, no blood taken. She prescribed acyclovir, cephalexin and ibuprofen along with an antibiotic ointment. Since the first day it hasn't hurt at all, in fact it looks like its healing quite well and normative of other skin conditions. Today I've noticed an extreme fatigue. Additionally my father has had shingles when he was younger.
Avatar_n_tn Herpes zoster ophthalmicus would need treatment with antivirals and steroids. Over the counter pain medicines like acetaminophen or ibuprofen should be used for the pain. Sometimes post herpetic neuralgia develops long after the rash is gone like in your left hand. Treatment consist of antiviral drugs like acyclovir, steroids to relieve pain and swelling. To rule out Multiple sclerosis, neuroimaging( MRI done), CSF analysis and evoked potentials should be taken up.
Avatar_n_tn 5 1/2 days of taking the meds and nothing has happened. I am also taking L-lysine, Ibuprofen, and Yasmin birth control. Is this herpes for sure? What else could it be? Me and my boyfriend have no other STDs nor have we been with other people for 5 years. Could it be bacteria? I also had fever. chills and swollen lymph node. I haven't been able to walk for 3 days because of the pain!
Avatar_f_tn I have a burning sensation in my midriff area that also includes the middle back area. Ibuprofen is helpful but I don't know what direction to take as far as treatment or Dr. to consult. Since there is no visible signs of anything there I wouldn't think a Dermotogist is the way to go. I also notice a bit of a stomach ache as well. any help/ideas?
4691073_tn?1391704031 I removed your other post since it was the same as this one. please keep all your questions in this post - thanks! I can't really help much with your blood testing since you are outside of the US. Your current partner also needs tested to know his own status - assume nothing about who you got hsv2 too. If you can find a local herpes support group, Hopefully someone there can look at the testing you had done to see if it was accurate or not. lysine isn't really effective for herpes.
Avatar_f_tn I never had cold sores in my life, and after sharing a bottle of water without attention with a friend who had Hsv1 since long time ago, within 2 days of this event i started feeling fatigue and a bit of pain in my throat. At the 3rd day the pain became sharp and severe and vesicles appeared where the tonsils used to be before they were removed and also in the oropharynx down to the posterior pharynx with inflammation that was notable around the vesicles.
Avatar_n_tn It's about the possibility of herpes. Does this seem like herpes? and with the acyclovir, assuming this is herpes, how long before I should expect improvement in my symptoms? I've read the swab tests for HSV can provide a false negative if the cell specimens obtained don't contain the virus, how often do you see false negatives from this test? I've also seen other posts on this forum similar to mine, and my urologist said that he's seen this before.
Avatar_f_tn We spent Christmas day with my family where there were other children (an infant, a 1 year old, another 5 year old and a 7 year old) and our daughter had been on the acyclovir for about 48 hours and had no open lesions. I'm very, very worried that she could have transmitted the virus to the other kids.
Avatar_f_tn Even though valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug ( the body converts it to acyclovir), you get less active acyclovir in the actual acyclovir pill which is why you take it more often. Some folks do have pain from valtrex and getting less acyclovir in the actual acyclovir pill controls your herpes without causing you as many side effects.
Avatar_m_tn I didnt really like this doctor and he didnt make me feel comfortable so i got a different GP and went to see him today, and he told me it may be herpes, but hes not too sure yet because my other doctor didnt test for that, so today i did another blood test that should be coming in sometime next week. but in the meantime, he prescribed me antibiotics and acyclovir which is suppose to treat herpes.
5806584_tn?1380414143 Diclofenac is in the class of NSAIDs, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, like aspirin and ibuprofen. It is effective in treating pain and inflammation. However, do consult your provider and pharmacist if you need to take it for a prolong period of time. NSAIDs may increase risks for gastrointestinal ulcer, high blood pressure, and bleeds. Avatar_m_tn I thoughts Oh Crap, HPV or Herpes because about the same time I started to have burning while I urinated so I thought chlamydia, went to the doctor and he said he could not tell but put me on doxycycline (for chlamydia just in case) and acyclovir for herpes outbreak. The bumps stopped getting worse but I went ahead and finished the 10 days of anti-b's.
1124121_tn?1267139338 I was treated with very strong IV acyclovir (anti viral) and two sets of antibiotics for a secondary infection in my brain I was on strong IV metronidazole and amoxicillin aswell as morphine for pain relief on top of codeine, ibuprofen and paracetamol with cyclizine for anti emetic treatment. My blood pressure was extrmely low as my fluid intake was poor so I was on IV fluids and my pulse dropped as low as 35 one evening.
Avatar_f_tn The pain is the hard part. She is taking acyclovir, Tylenol 3, and alternating that with ibuprofen. As a nurse myself, and more importantly her mom, I am very concerned on how she got this. Her immune system is typically spot on! She is the last to get sick (we are a large family of 9). Is there any advice on how to soothe the pain? I have been giving her vitamin c supplements for her immune system too. I am very worried about her health and the post pain this can cause. Thanks in advance.
