I was given diflucan I think its called, the one dose pill and the acyclovir for anymore hsv outbreaks. I also began takikng ortho tricyclen lo at this time. Everything was fine until mid February when I started having the tingling feelings of an hsv outbreak so I started the acyclovir and it stopped without ulcering. The nect week I got another yeast infection and it went away after a monistat application.
correct - he's negative and so are you so no reason to take acyclovir. You don't have any reason to think that you have genital herpes.
Her first outbreak she couldnt whipe after using the restroom, she had it around her anus as well as around her vagina. And it lasted over 3 weeks. HSV1 is more common, and the right perscription should help you with your symptoms, but HSV2 can be very painful and unmanagable at times. I think that you should really be carefull in this situation, and use protection atleast.
But by the end of week 2, more sores started appearing and my urination started to get very painful again. I should say I am on Acyclovir 400 mgs twice/day, and was on an antibiotic the first week, plus pain pills.
I went back to doctor today because of the new outbreak and she upped the Acyclovir to 400 mgs every 4 hrs and put me on another antiobiotic for a bacterial infection.
About 2 and 1/2 weeks after the initial encounter, and one day after I stopped the acyclovir I notice what appeared to be small bumps along the ridge of my penis (not widespread but located there), appearing to be herpes. These seemed consistent with pictures I'd seen online and appeared after I had recently masturbated. Since both my encounters were oral, albeit with two separate women is HSV 1 the likely culprit in both cases?

I contracted HSV 1 two years ago from my ex partner after oral sex when he had a cold sore. I had a painful intitial outbreak in the genital area which cleared up within 7 days.
I have been getting outbreaks Quite regularly, I have tried MMS, Hydrogen peroxide and DMSO and oxygenated water, even silver have. Nothing worked and on top of that things were getting worse, more outbreaks. So if you try to respond and convince me to try the things (I mentioned here), please don't waste your time. It appears that all these things that I mentioned and tried, were just aggravating the virus. I have been on acyclovir for about 1 year now. So far no outbreak.
Herpes Simplex 1 and 2 can BOTH cause neuropathic pain syndromes. It is not limited to herpes zoster. There is plenty of research out there about it. I cannot understand why MDs are still ignorant of this or denying the association, when there is ample material in the literature documenting this problem. HSV infections are epidemic. It's time for primary care physicians to get current on the subclinical (not visually observable) and atypical (non-standard) manifestations of the disease.
Hello, curious about hsv-1 infection both genitally and orally - which is what I believe i have, despite literature suggesting near to impossible.
I was diagnosed with HSV-1 genitally two years ago. My boyfriend had performed oral sex while having an herpeticginvamatosis. The initial outbreak was servere and a culture was done of the sores, came back HSV-1 positive. Rapid blood test showed no HSV-2 infection.
My doctor was referring to a study wehre Acyclovir slowed disease progression in HIV by reducing viral load. And so he thought Acyclovir might have a direct effect (even if it is low) on HIV. Maybe he thought that by decreasing viral load antybodies would show up later than in the absence of Acyclovir?
Recenlty I was tested and came back postitve for HSV-2. My first outbreak which was a single blister turned ulcer and then healed over lasted about two weeks to fully close up and heal. I was given Acyclovir dosed at 400mg taken 3 times a day for 5 days. After I finished my first dose of Acyclovir I went to speak with my primary Dr about being put on a daily suppressive thearpy. He prescribed me Acyclovir again, but dosed at 800mg taken twice daily.
And I have tested twice (6 months in between) and both times I am positive for HSV-1 and not HSV-2. First time HSV-1 IgG = 51.9. Second time HSV-1 IgG = 41. I know the basics about HSV and I appreciate you taking your time to explain it.
1. I was not expecting acyclovir to reduced the antibody response, I don't even think that's how that works? Acyclovir is an antiviral drug. It doesn't kill all of the virus but enough for people to use it to prevent outbreaks.
He is aware of the current situation and was tested for HSV I and II. He has never had a cold sore or other lesions on his oral or genital regions. His blood test results came back negative for Herpes. Neither of us has had sexual relations with anyone else within the past 6 months. Could a silent carrier test negative even after a 6 month period?

Long-term use of acyclovir for up to 10 years for HSV suppression is effective and well tolerated. Acyclovir is also approved for use in children, is available in some countries over the counter in cream formulation for herpes labialis, and has been monitored in over 1000 pregnancies. Safety monitoring data from clinical trials of valacyclovir, involving over 3000 immunocompetent and immunocompromised persons receiving long-term therapy for HSV suppression, were analyzed.
1) Does preexisting HSV-2 definitively protect you against HSV-1? Does it matter where the HSV-1 is located; i.e. oral or genital? I am afraid to kiss this guy because of the severity of my HSV-2 symptoms. I cannot imagine what having oral HSV-1 on top of my genital HSV-2 would be like given that my HSV-2 symptoms are so severe, constant and uncontrollable (see below). If the answer is yes, PLEASE direct me to studies so that I may further educate myself.
4) Acyclovir does not have any effect on HSV test results. You should not take acyclovir at all, unless and until a herpes-knowledgeable health care provider prescribes it. Based on the information you provide here, no such provider would prescribe it at this time.
You seem overly concerned about this problem,. You were at low risk and you didn't catch it. Time to move on.

She told me that she was diagnosed 3-years ago and has been on Acyclovir for 3-years (taking twice daily) and has not had an out-break in those three years since beginning the antiviral.
My situation: Just came out of a 5-year monogamous relationship where we always had unprotected sex. Never saw a sign or symptom over that time of having HSV-2 in either of us. Pretty sure I contracted HSV-1 from her via kissing (sore at the corner of the mouth).
So is it possible that someone get HSV-2 and never get outbreaks on genitals and get HSV-1 without anything on the face nor mouth and only always have blisters in the same spot on the hip?
Is the timing of getting the first blister related somehow to when one got infected?
If - when they come - the blisters appears ONLY on the outer side of the hip ... Is it still worrying to be transmitted to the baby at the time of the delivery?
She got a culture test 2 days later and was diagnosed with HSV-1 genital by her gyno. I went to get tested at a STD clinic the next day and all my results came back negative (for all STD's) which makes sense since I know it takes time for the antibodies to show up (I did not get a culture swab b/c, at that time, I did not have a outbreak YET). About 7 days after the protected sex, I did get some uncomfortable pimples on my penis that looked (and definitely hurt) like herpes.
