The reported side effects of acyclovir include hallucinations, psychosis, lethargy, mood changes, and confusion. However, most of these occur in much higher doses than yours. Also, I stress "reported"; cause and effect is unclear. The specific words you use -- mood change, irritability, and depression (which is what your sympoms, as a group, suggest -- as you probably know) have not been described, but I suppose it is possible.
My daughter was diagnosed with Behcet's in 2008. Then in 2009 she contracted herpes (hsv2). She is now having an outbreak of herpes (starting to get under control after 2 rounds of valtrex, back on acyclovir for 2 days) and a flare of Behcet's. Prednisone will make the painful vaginal Behcet's lesions go away but will cause another outbreak of herpes.
Does anyone have any suggestions? She's about to leave for a required college trip.

My doctor was referring to a study wehre Acyclovir slowed disease progression in HIV by reducing viral load. And so he thought Acyclovir might have a direct effect (even if it is low) on HIV. Maybe he thought that by decreasing viral load antybodies would show up later than in the absence of Acyclovir?
Once and awhile I will get a migraine often accompanied with with a scalp breakout and I stop taking the Acyclovir and lysine until the pain goes away. Then I resume my acyclovir and lysine. I now rarely have any problems. But I always have to go a week once and a while without my Acyclovir and Lysine. Is the herpes virus simply one of my triggers or is the herpes virus the root cause off all my migraines, I don't know. The pain and breakouts are always hemispheric in nature.
Few Lesions (pimple like with red base) come and go everywhere in my body (cheeks, forehead, ear pinna, eyelids, chest, arm, forearm...). I have took acyclovir only for 10 days in October and am suffering a couple of lesions coming up and clearing in few days every now and then. This is companied by random itching occurring in different parts of the body without visible lesions, I also felt some shooting pain for a few seconds (rarely) into my penis.
I don't wanna keep calling my doctor for every little thing. I've been on Acyclovir 400mg for about 10 days now. Had to take 2 a day for the first week and now down to 1 a day.
I'm currenty 28 weeks pregnant.
The pain down there has went down and I can finally wipe and pee without pain. I'm just a bit itchy down there and around my butthole (sorry tmi). I only get the occational sharp shooting pain that will last a few moments and feels like I am being ripped up down there.
I use acyclovir to and you must know that it doesnt take effect spontaneously especially the first time your using it. It helps relieve the pain though but might take some time to take effect. Just continue use it and youll see the sore will go away within 3-4 days instead of the usual 7-8 days they take to go away.
s more about your genes as to how often you get recurrences than anything you are doing as far as diet, stress reduction and exercise. Eating healthy , exercising and keeping stress low are always a good idea but honestly they have little to do with how often you get recurrences :(
no reason to stop eating chocolate!! It won't decrease your ob's and if you are anything like me, you eating chocolate is some days what keeps you from stabbing people....
I am taking L-Lysene as a suppressor and only take the Acyclovir at the first sign of an outbreak. I was taking 1000mg Valtrex at onset and then 500mg twice a day and everything was clear in 3 days. To get the same effectiveness from Acyclovir how much should I be taking daily during out breaks? I have tried 600mg Acyc 3 times a day but it takes 7 days to clear up. Please advise.
correct - he's negative and so are you so no reason to take acyclovir. You don't have any reason to think that you have genital herpes.
I was told I had genital herpes 3 days ago. The outbreak started about 6 days ago. This is the first outbreak and it's extremely painful. The Dr gave me Acyclovir to take for 7 days. How long will it take for it to stop hurting? How long will it take for the Acyclovir to work?
What the studies do show for a fact is that even mild exercise seems to completely erase any possible association between HSV and dementia. So while the connection between HSV and and dementia is currently just a hypothesis, the association between exercise as a preventive against dementia is not!
Take acyclovir if you have HSV if you want. But definitely get exercise anyhow!
I have been getting outbreaks Quite regularly, I have tried MMS, Hydrogen peroxide and DMSO and oxygenated water, even silver have. Nothing worked and on top of that things were getting worse, more outbreaks. So if you try to respond and convince me to try the things (I mentioned here), please don't waste your time. It appears that all these things that I mentioned and tried, were just aggravating the virus. I have been on acyclovir for about 1 year now. So far no outbreak.

Unlike you, I was never diagnosed with herpes; indeed i was just taking acyclovir hoping to inhibit a potential risk exposure that i was not sure about. My anti herpes antibodies came back all negative last week (both IgG and IgM).
we have info on the herpes antivirals used suppressively for almost 25 years now ( acyclovir ) and the rates of resistance are the same as they were prior to their use for herpes.
no, his having herpes wouldn't have triggered a recurrence in you. was most likely coincidence more than anything.

But by the end of week 2, more sores started appearing and my urination started to get very painful again. I should say I am on Acyclovir 400 mgs twice/day, and was on an antibiotic the first week, plus pain pills.
I went back to doctor today because of the new outbreak and she upped the Acyclovir to 400 mgs every 4 hrs and put me on another antiobiotic for a bacterial infection.
