i started taking acyclovir a few days ago for the first time for a mild cold sore breakout. 2 days after i started, the cold sores got more intense, and 2 new huge cold sores came up out of nowhere. i have 3 more days left of the medication, and i'm going to keep taking it, but what should i do? these cold sores are not going away, and it seems like its getting worse! so done with these friggin things...
cold sores are hsv1 orally the vast majority of the time. Treating it 7 days after it appeared with acyclovir was actually a waste of money - it was already almost all healed. If your provider didn't give you refills on your acyclovir for future cold sores, give the clinic a call and ask for a prescription to have on hand. in the future, anytime you feel a cold sore about to start, that's the time to start the cold sore doses of acyclovir.
When you are at the store buying the medication, stop by and ask the pharmacist if its safe, I'm pretty sure it is. My husband gets cold sores and abreva doesn't work at all for him. He puts carmex on it constantly and it usually goes away in a few days. Remember, now that you're pregnant, your immune system is lower so you might get the cold sore break outs more often.

When out brake frms on my lip it's so large it swells to the bottom of my chin. B4 I would have an out brake once a year, now it's almost every month.
I had an initial outbreak of HSV1 inside my mouth that was accompanied by fever, aches and multiple sores inside my mouth a year and a half ago. I had never gotten a sore on the outside of my mouth until yesterday. I started feeling achy, but no fever or anything. Later in the day I got a bump which I put some abreva on, which then turned into two tiny blisters, which have crusted over today. I have been putting abreva on religiously every few hours.
I know the names cold urticaria and cold sore are similar by coincidence and that the cold sores could have originally been caused by the stress of the sudden cold urticaria, but is there any other possible connections between cold sores and cold urticaria or something that could cause both of these? Will treatment for hypothyroidism suppress my cold sores at all? to be cold sore free for even a week seems like an impossibe wish at the moment.
My boyfriend and I can't kiss, I can't eat chocolate, I can't drink, I can't kiss my family & haven't been able to do any of these things for over a year now..I feel like I've been delivered a life sentence..can anyone help?
I would usually apply my Acyclovir ointment a few times a day to the cold sore and take two pills of Lysine, one in the morning and one at night and usually in a day or two it would be gone. I just wasn't sure if using these two things was safe while pregnant. I will be calling my doctor tomorrow to ask but I would love anyones opinion on anyone who has used these products while pregnant. Thank you!
I've been getting cold sores for as long as I can remember. I have never been tested for HSV 1 but always assumed that's what it is. I used to only get 1 or 2 every year or two. But, recently they have been more and more frequent. I used the 200mg acyclovir at times when I felt I was getting an OB and it worked very well. Although, there have been times, once or twice, when it did not work and I experienced the worst OB's I've ever had.
t work at all on genital herpes lesions. it barely got fda approval to say it speeds healing of cold sores. It only healed cold sores less than a day faster than a placebo.
red marine algae failed tests in animals for herpes so it never went for testing in humans. we don't recommend it at all.
Not sure I've seen studies on lecithin for herpes to comment on it.
Not real sure I"d use colloidal silver on a cold sore - isnt it painful?
s are just fine with you saying you get cold sores and want medication for them. You can get the acyclovir 200mg, 30 tablets for $4 at walmart. Ask your doc to write the prescription like that for you to get it cheapest and then just take 4 pills at a time ( 800mg is what it totals ) 3x/day for 2 days at the very first sign of a cold sore about to start. Sometimes you can totally head them off like that.
Aveeno cold sore ointment with propolis in it is cheaper than abreeva .
I have been suffering with cold sores for almost since I was a teenager I am 39 and still suffering with them I never brought this to my doctors attention, because I thought nothing can be done about it. I know the virus is living inside of me and everybody else who gets them, they hurt a lot yesterday morning when I woke up I already started with 3 of them on my upper lip. Do you break out with them when you are stressed? Yesterday my daughter had her 3rd hip surgery...
They are amazing. I have literally seen them make a cold sore only have a) one blister instead of many and b) go away in two days on my ex partner.
And for outbreaks themselves, take an antiviral. Also, if you can identify when you outbreak exactly then take good care of yourself during that time. Like for myself, I caught it this year and my outbreaks tend to be triggered by menstruation.
I did have a bad spout of cold sores this past 5 month so my doctor gave me acyclovir. My cold sores do hurt. The scab in my genital area does not flake like my cold sores do. It more less just gets smaller. I take acyclovir as a daily suppressant. I am wondering if what I am describing as a chance of herpes? If I am on dailly acyclovir does that help me with resistant of HSV2 infection? Keep in mind I do have a high anxiety of herpes and HIV.

2. I just recently also have a girlfriend, and I didn't realize it was herpes , and we are having sex while I'm having outbreak :( . it just happened less than a week ago.
I take methotrexate to treat lupus and a side effect of that drug is cold sores on my face. I've been taking 1,000 mg. acyclovir daily for over ten years and it seems to be losing its effectiveness in keeping the cold sores at bay. Has anyone else found that it doesn't work as well after many years? If so, what did you do? My rheumatologist said I can take up to five pills a day but I don't want to do that. Thanks for your help.
