1580703 tn?1651904887 I got bell's palsy after being hit in the face several times. I'm still disfigured 7 months after and can't smile well. Is there going to be any improvement in the future? will taking acyclovir or prednisone help?
1580703 tn?1651904887 after being punched in the face I developed Bell's Palsy and blindness in one eye. I had blurry and grey vision and think it's from the eye muscle being paralyzed. I'm scared of going blind because I've seen videos on youtube of people not fully recovering after 2 years and not being able to smile. I went on prednisone 40mg tapered and acyclovir and it is helping some, but I'm still not back to normal.
1580703 tn?1651904887 after 3 months and a week of prednisone and acyclovir I'm still disfigured from Bell's Palsy, I look terrible when I try to smile and sometimes my head turns when I try to smile. I tried acupuncture, it seems to help is there any hope for me to regain my nerve function and smiling?
1580703 tn?1651904887 I have had Bell's Palsy and took prednisone for 5 days and a week later started acyclovir but I've been having blindness, extremely blurry, gray vision in my affected eye and can't widen that eye pupil or shut it. I think the eye muscle may be paralyzed too and I can't speak or remember well.
1503643 tn?1311518238 One of my nephews was just diagnosed with bilateral bell's palsy on both sides of his face. I've been told that only 1% get the dysphasia on both sides. But this is all I know. I don't really know what it is or what kind of treatment there is. Or if this is something that can be treated and cured. Am I even in the right forum for this?
Avatar n tn Hi I was wondering if you ever received any answers and if you feel better now. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis in October 2019 and got Bell's Palsy end of February 2020. It's now July and I still have the Bell's Palsy. Just wondering if you have any answers you can share. Thank you.
Avatar n tn t have any protective antibodies built up for the first ob to help your own immune system heal lesions faster so it takes a longer course of medication. Recurrences are treated with the 5 days of acyclovir or the far more convenient and as jess said ,just as effective, 2 day course. The 200mg 3x/day dose is only for suppressive therapy. for ob's you need more medication than that to heal up lesions.
Avatar m tn About 3 weeks ago i hurt my should lifting something...was my left should...from a 1-10 i was in about an 8 in pain...well the pain went away...on friday dec 10th i started to feel very weird on the left side of my face...it wasnt normal..as if my muscles were very weak..so i decided to go to the ER and they took my blood and did a CAT scan on me....CAT scan came back normal...but they said that the cpk level in my blood was way to high.. Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Bells Palsy in 2000, and given the same prescription, but with a lot of research and asked the doctor if it could be trigenimal neuralgia. Turns out I did. However, in 2010, I had what seemed like a stroke, but found out this Monday was MS. I had a second seizure and lost sight in my left eye. No bueno. Don't ever settle for what they tell you. You need to always search and ask questions.
Avatar m tn Welcome back to the Forum. As you probably know, Dr. Handsfield and I share the forum. You got me this time. FYI, the reason we share the forum is because we have worked together for nearly 30 years and while our verbiage styles vary, we have never disagreed on management strategies or advice to clients. I did review your earlier interaction with Dr. Handsfield and note that you think you got your chlamydia through either a failed condom or hand to genital contact an Dr. Handsfield does not.
Avatar n tn Dear Ewat, Whenever someone has paralysis or weakness in their facial movement, the first thing is to rule out the possiblity of stroke. While stroke is more common in older folks, it can happen in the young, particularly if they are smokers or are on the birth control pill. Usually, however, the symptoms of stroke occur suddenly and you say that your symptoms have been present for as long as you can remember, so it is likely that something else is causing your symptoms.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have had bell's palsy more then 10 times in the last 2 years. Had a mri done and two small spots showed up in the white matter of my brain. I had a lumbar puncture done, still waiting on the results. Could many bell's palsy attacks be a sign for ms? If not what could be causing so many attacks?
Avatar f tn Few months back I performed oral sex for a minute on a massage lady. The next morning, my left side of my face was paralyzed and I was diagnosis with Bell's Palsy. Did not tell my doctor what I did and she said it was probably an viral infection. She prescribed steroid and it was healed in about 2 weeks. I searched the net and can't find any relationship between STI/HIV and Bell's Palsy but I am nervous that they are related. Anyone knows if any STI/HIV can cause Bell's Palsy?
410281 tn?1254229064 I should add, I think this is similar to trigeminal neuralgia. TN can be a stand-alone problem, caused by compression on the peripheral nerve, but it can also be a sx of MS. For instance, I have bilateral TN (started at 34, I'm now 35) and the neurosurgeon said the chances of having bilateral TN caused by anything other than MS, at my age, were exceedingly slim.
Avatar m tn I had an upper respitory infection, and a cold sore before the Bell's Palsy. No Fever, and no Rash. i went to the ER when this started, and have seen my GP twice, and they have not tested for, or even mentioned testing for Lyme's. they both knew about my symptoms before this started.
Avatar f tn General Curtis Lemay, the late commander of the Strategic Air Command, suffered from Bell's Palsy and it didn't prevent him from living a full and eventful life. Wait a while, because the problem is often misdiagnosed.
Avatar f tn Hi, My husband woke up with numbness in his mouth, no sense of taste and since he was diagnosed with early stages of Bell's Palsy. Later his eye is affected, he would have to forcefully close the eye on the side. He was detected with sixth nerve palsy like 9 months ago. Can these be related? The Dr has suggested an MRI to rule out any nuerological condition. Also my Mother in law was diagnosed with Bell's palsy as well 20 years ago and had regained full functionality.
Avatar m tn No need unless you're having symptoms that suggest you have oral herpes yourself.
Avatar f tn Hi there. That must be upsetting to have this recurring so often. We are not doctors here. We're just patients. There are several potential causes of Bell's Palsy, so I would suggest you bring this up to your doctor in precisely the same way you've mentioned it here. Try and provide them with the timeline of your experience with Bell's Palsy. I hope they are able to provide you with answers!
Avatar f tn Bell's palsy is a form of facial paralysis resulting from a dysfunction of the cranial nerve VII (the facial nerve) causing an inability to control facial muscles on the affected side. Several conditions can cause facial paralysis, e.g., brain tumor, stroke, myasthenia gravis, and Lyme disease. However, if no specific cause can be identified, the condition is known as Bell's palsy.
