Avatar f tn I was tested positive for HSV2 back in May, I would say my first outbreak was 6 months before that but was told by my doctor it was an ingrown hair (outbreak was on bikini line) It then spread to my labia (this was the sore that I got a positive test from) I made the decision that I wanted to do the suppressive therapy taking acyclovir twice daily, this helped the outbreaks but the symptoms hadn’t gone at all, I was then told to take acyclovir three times a day..
Avatar f tn When I returned home, the paranoid bug took hold and I went to the doc and asked for acyclovir, which she gave me. At the time, I had no symptoms. Two days later, I started getting UTI-type symptoms (irritated urethra, increased urge to pee, etc.). After two days of that, I went to the doctor again, who said it was possible that since she is likely a carrier, I may have contracted it and the pills meant I only got the urethritis, but no lesions.
Avatar m tn My daughter was diagnosed with Behcet's in 2008. Then in 2009 she contracted herpes (hsv2). She is now having an outbreak of herpes (starting to get under control after 2 rounds of valtrex, back on acyclovir for 2 days) and a flare of Behcet's. Prednisone will make the painful vaginal Behcet's lesions go away but will cause another outbreak of herpes. Does anyone have any suggestions? She's about to leave for a required college trip. Thanks.
Avatar f tn My doctor was referring to a study wehre Acyclovir slowed disease progression in HIV by reducing viral load. And so he thought Acyclovir might have a direct effect (even if it is low) on HIV. Maybe he thought that by decreasing viral load antybodies would show up later than in the absence of Acyclovir?
Avatar n tn Once and awhile I will get a migraine often accompanied with with a scalp breakout and I stop taking the Acyclovir and lysine until the pain goes away. Then I resume my acyclovir and lysine. I now rarely have any problems. But I always have to go a week once and a while without my Acyclovir and Lysine. Is the herpes virus simply one of my triggers or is the herpes virus the root cause off all my migraines, I don't know. The pain and breakouts are always hemispheric in nature.
Avatar f tn There is NOTHING that will speed healing of recurrent herpes outbreaks other than the established drugs like acyclovir and valacyclovir. Even these are useless if started more than a day or two after the outbreak begins. Viral replication in herpes outbreaks pretty much ends within 2-3 days, and once replication ceases, all you're left with is the body's natural healing processes for any break in the skin -- no different than, say, a cut or cigaret burn. Ain't science wonderful?
Avatar m tn Hi, I have been taking acyclovir 400mg tablets 2x daily for 2 years now and along with several lifestyle changes (which includes almost no alcohol and good sleeping pattern) I have had pretty much success in suppressing my yearly OBs from 6-8 outbreaks a year to none noticeable outbreaks at all.
Avatar f tn So I finally called up my doctor took a plunge and paid 50 dollars for acyclovir. He prescribed me this medicine to be taken twice daily and hoped it would work as well as the queen medicine Valtrex for $208.00 they have lost their minds. My thoughts on this were wow pick on the herpes patients why don't ya. Just like gas they know we need it so we will pay what it is priced for. JERKS!! So.. I for a while ...
Avatar n tn Few Lesions (pimple like with red base) come and go everywhere in my body (cheeks, forehead, ear pinna, eyelids, chest, arm, forearm...). I have took acyclovir only for 10 days in October and am suffering a couple of lesions coming up and clearing in few days every now and then. This is companied by random itching occurring in different parts of the body without visible lesions, I also felt some shooting pain for a few seconds (rarely) into my penis.
Avatar n tn yes. ive been taking acyclovir 400 mg tablet since sunday and i'vent seen any improvement yet. today i went to visit my private doctor. she doubled the dosage. asking me to take 2 tablets twice a day making it 4 tablets a day and prescribed 800 mg acyclovir to take three times a day. its freaking me out , to consume all this medication and see no improvement but i see my neck is very dry, itchy and red rashes. i just cleaned the part with alcohol and applied lotion.
Avatar f tn t need test. And prescribed acyclovir. I told that I definitely need test . And he made pcr swab and Igg and igm test for 1&2 herpes.Everything come back negative. He told probably I just got it and I need time. I told to my new girlfriend and we went to clinic and she also passed Igg and igm for herpes. Everything came back negative. He told that probably you got it from past relationships and it's appears now.
Avatar m tn Good to hear back from you. Your test is conclusive and you need not worry. Acyclovir medications did not put you at any risk.
Avatar m tn I use acyclovir to and you must know that it doesnt take effect spontaneously especially the first time your using it. It helps relieve the pain though but might take some time to take effect. Just continue use it and youll see the sore will go away within 3-4 days instead of the usual 7-8 days they take to go away.
Avatar f tn s more about your genes as to how often you get recurrences than anything you are doing as far as diet, stress reduction and exercise. Eating healthy , exercising and keeping stress low are always a good idea but honestly they have little to do with how often you get recurrences :( no reason to stop eating chocolate!! It won't decrease your ob's and if you are anything like me, you eating chocolate is some days what keeps you from stabbing people....
Avatar m tn I am taking L-Lysene as a suppressor and only take the Acyclovir at the first sign of an outbreak. I was taking 1000mg Valtrex at onset and then 500mg twice a day and everything was clear in 3 days. To get the same effectiveness from Acyclovir how much should I be taking daily during out breaks? I have tried 600mg Acyc 3 times a day but it takes 7 days to clear up. Please advise.
Avatar n tn correct - he's negative and so are you so no reason to take acyclovir. You don't have any reason to think that you have genital herpes.
Avatar f tn I was told I had genital herpes 3 days ago. The outbreak started about 6 days ago. This is the first outbreak and it's extremely painful. The Dr gave me Acyclovir to take for 7 days. How long will it take for it to stop hurting? How long will it take for the Acyclovir to work?
Avatar f tn Hi and thanks. I am familiar with the liquid as my older child went on it for two months because he was getting cold sores constantly. It worked, he rarely gets them, maybe one small one since then. their md does not want to start my younger one yet because of his age and potential side effects to the liver etc.. It seems that peanut butter, which he eats constantly causes him to break out with them. In my constant research it appears this is true due to the lysine vs arginine.
Avatar f tn I have been getting outbreaks Quite regularly, I have tried MMS, Hydrogen peroxide and DMSO and oxygenated water, even silver have. Nothing worked and on top of that things were getting worse, more outbreaks. So if you try to respond and convince me to try the things (I mentioned here), please don't waste your time. It appears that all these things that I mentioned and tried, were just aggravating the virus. I have been on acyclovir for about 1 year now. So far no outbreak.
