Actonel vs reclast

Common Questions and Answers about Actonel vs reclast

actonel

Avatar f tn I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain. This discussion is related to Atrial Fibulation / Multi-Infarct Dimentia.
Avatar n tn They are given generally prescribed orally and include Fosamax, Actonel and Boniva. They can cause some severe stomach distress as they did for my father. When this happens there are injectable forms of bisphosphonates. Ibandronate (Boniva injection) is injected into your vein once every three months, and zoledronic acid (Reclast) is injected once a year. If approved by your physician these treatments do not cause stomach distress and you do not have to remember to take a tablet.
89592 tn?1391274422 once a year for Reclast. The more I have read about it, the more iffy I am about getting my 3rd infusion since more info is coming out on it with people calling it poison. It is also called zoledronic acid.?? I am 5 3 and weigh 126. I have small bones and have had rheum arth than 33 yrs. the issues I worry about with the reclast is that it can cause afib and kidney issues. the med stays in your system for a full year and if there is a problem with it, there is no antidote.
294425 tn?1288528395 Taking Fosamax, Actonel, Boniva, or Reclast (etc) will NOT help bones that are being attacked by a bad parathyroid. These osteoporosis drugs have no place in the treatment of parathyroid disease. 7. Parathyroid disease will get worse with time in all patients. It will not stay the same, nor will it get better on its own. 8. There is only one treatment for parathyroid disease (hyperparathyroidism): Surgery 9. Nearly all parathyroid patients can be cured with a minimal operation.

Avatar n tn ve had 6 cardioversions in a year and a half because medication alone did not correct my heart rhythm. Is it safe for me to take reclast? I have been diagnosed with severe osteoporosis in both hips, osteopenia in my vertebrae, and arthritis in my right hip, all of which are very painful.
Avatar m tn Hi, I posted once before a couple months ago. This question isn't directly thyroid related, however I would certainly be grateful if you could comment to the best of your ability. 3 years ago I began having a constant headache and a bone tumor was found in the frontal bone of my head. I had a nuclear bone scan and I was diagnosed with monostotic fibrous dysplasia of the skull.
Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
294425 tn?1288528395 Hi, Rita. I don't have osteoporosis, but I do have osteopenia (less than 2.5 standard deviations off). Have been treating this for many years, first with Boniva, then with Reclast. I'm way overdue for another Reclast infusion. For the last one, I didn't feel great for a day or so afterwards, but it wasn't all that bad either. I really doubt that this has anything to do with MS meds. It's largely hereditary, but aside from that, who knows?
Avatar m tn Food and Drug Administration raised concerns about the potential for some serious side effects in women taking bone-building drugs called bisphosphonates, specifically Fosamax, Actonel and Reclast. The published findings are not new.
Avatar f tn I have osteoporosis and have been on Actonel for 18 months. It has done wonders and reversed all of my bone loss, some greatly and some moderately, but all areas have improved. There are so many contributing factors to it that there is no telling what caused it in either of us. Genetic predisposition did not help in my case. What are the docs doing to treat yours?
Avatar n tn i currnetly am taking actonel for my bones the past 3 years and klonopin i per night and take alot of vitamins such as B compex etc. no alcohol consumption but i do smoke half a pack of cigarettes per day no other medical conditions known 6 months ago all my blood workups were normal . ANY IDEAS WHAT CAN BE GOING ON WITH ME ?
Avatar f tn I had a bad reaction to Fosamax with severe digestive upset. Worse reactionwith Reclast;extremely swollen right leg especially around knee joint - could not even bend knee, terrible hip pain and two days later a tooth abscess. What are the chances I can tolerate Boniva once a month? My Endocrinologist wants me to try it.
Avatar f tn because the Metatarsal and my toes became very senitiive where my nerves were swallon and the doctor and had said it was not from Octonel but I disagree I stopped the actonel and in two weeks my feet were fine. I would bet my life it was the Actonel. Anyway in order to go on the Arimidex I would have to get a shot of Reclast for the bones that you need only once a year. As confused as I am If Octonal reacted on me like this what would I do for a whole year if relcast did this to me.
Avatar f tn I know that the early hysterectomy has caused my bone issues(been on Fosamax and actually just started Reclast this week -2.7) but I wonder if it is effecting the breast? I went in for my annual mamo last week and have been called back yet again. New spot directly under the nipple, same breast. Sheduled US for next week. So two mamos and 2 call backs...I am nervous..is this common, should I be worried, is this what I have to look forward to every year...
Avatar n tn Right hip replacement. I'm on requip, lyrica, cymbalta, celebrex, just starting actonel plus vitamins & calcium. thank you. I'm 76, female. I have osteoporosis of the right hip and osteopenia of the left hip. I have peripheral neuropathy (familial), and two bad knees.
Avatar n tn I am just tired of taking medicenes that seem to cause other problems. I think I have the GERD from taking Actonel even though I followed the instructions to the letter for taking the Actonel. No longer take it. Just take calcium.
Avatar f tn Are you talking about an infusion with Prolia or Reclast? I have had 4 Prolia infusions(injections) over the past 2 yrs. I am on a Medicare Advantage Plan and the only way I could get it covered was to go to the infusion clinic and have it covered under Medicare PART B. It is very important if you have Medicare to specify PART B because it is covered differently.
Avatar f tn My RA doc wanted me to take reclast for my RA. My cancer doc is concerned that my high calcium levels are indicators of my cancer spreading into my bones. I am having a bone scan on this Thursday coming up. I am usually an upbeat person, but, with my 3 year anniversary coming up this makes me very nervous. Most people live about this long after finding out they have OVCA. Is it common for this type of cancer to go to the bones. Everything I have read doesn't indicate this...
710547 tn?1295446030 My recent dexa showed a t score of -3.9 average. I had an infusion of Reclast a year ago, but due to hyperparathyroidism, can't take it anymore. I had severe bone pain afterward though and am very concerned about prolia. If I do nothing though, I'm headed to hip fracture. My dad, aunt, and grandmother all had hip fracture. I have MS and severe degenerative spinal condition, so don't need any additional problems.
Avatar m tn While I was in Cancer Treatment I was diagnosed with Pagets disease...of the skull...They gave me Reclast...could the Reclast cause these abnormal numbers?
Avatar m tn I could see Hyper causing the OP, by Hypo? Oddly enough, as I look through the symptoms of hypo vs. hyper I think I fit more the hyper. I don’t have weight gain; I do have a fast metabolism, etc. Also, I have never had a broken bone anywhere. Any educated guesses or suggestions would help. I do a lot of my own research just because that’s how I am, but right now my stuff seems conflicting and I’m unable to make sense of it. If it made sense, it would be easier to cope with.
Avatar m tn I have a 3.5 centimeter bone tumor of the skull in the immediate left supraorbital location abutting the left frontal sinus. The tumor was discovered 4 years ago and has not changed at all. Symptoms are a constant pressure headache that NEVER goes away and I've had it for 4 years now. The diagnosis based on CT, MRI and nuclear bone scan is monostotic fibrous dysplasia.
Avatar m tn Non-hormonal biphosphonates (such as Fosamax and Actonel) increase bone strength and are available as once-a-week pills. These can also be taken. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn I have cirroris and was prescribed Fosamax by my Doc's. I have also had a liver transplant. They now are prescribing a once a year Reclast infusion for my osteporois. Thats seems to be a lot less taxing on the liver. Big bonus for me was I didnt have to remember to take those pills everyday!!!! Good luck!
