Avatar f tn t let me take things like actonel or that class of drugs as my osteoporosis affected the bones in my jaw and they are afraid to take the chance as with those drugs there is a risk. I was disappointmented about the forteo. I think that drug is more dangerous than its worth personally. Are you still working as an RN? I am not able to work now and I miss it so much. Let me know you turn out regarding the forteo.
Avatar m tn Non-hormonal biphosphonates (such as Fosamax and Actonel) increase bone strength and are available as once-a-week pills. These can also be taken. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn dental work - there are blackbox warnings about osteonecrosis of the jaw (bone death) The mother of a woman that I worked with took Fosamax for a few months and her teeth began to loosen - an oral surgeon had to pull teeth from a quadrant of her mouth and add some sort of bone replacement. The oral surgeon who did my root canal 2 years ago told me (reluctantly) agreed that the bone drugs are becoming controversial.
Avatar n tn i currnetly am taking actonel for my bones the past 3 years and klonopin i per night and take alot of vitamins such as B compex etc. no alcohol consumption but i do smoke half a pack of cigarettes per day no other medical conditions known 6 months ago all my blood workups were normal . ANY IDEAS WHAT CAN BE GOING ON WITH ME ?
1026267 tn?1257591273 I'm glad you've decided to wait. The bisphosphonate drugs (all of them, Fosamax, Boniva, Actonel, etc) have black box warnings required by the FDA. The FDA has also recommended that these drugs be taken 5 years or less. (my OBGYN confirmd) After that, they just make the bone hard & brittle. There is concern about osteonecrosis of the jaw (bone death), esphogal cancer , and more recently reports of increased femur fractures in patients taking it long term.
Avatar n tn I have started mega doses of supplements and calcium and D and excercise and I want someone to tell me that that has worked for them. Most comments I get is to take the drug because it's more effective. I can't believe everyone is taking bisphosphonates or other drugs like that. Please let me hear from you if you see this!,,, Thanks, and hope you are doing well!
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your response! I did go to my primary care doctor, and he felt it was nothing to worry about. He told me he thinks it's just the bone structure of my jaw. In fact, he didn't even feel any imaging needed to be done on it. He also told me with the work ups I had done last year, and the symptoms I had, that he was confident I had no cancer. He gave me Effexor for anxiety, and for the last two weeks it has helped a lot.
Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
Avatar f tn I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain. This discussion is related to Atrial Fibulation / Multi-Infarct Dimentia.
Avatar m tn A doctor a year ago performed endodontic surgery in my lower jaw and removed infected tissue and bone in my lower four teeth. But infection again developed resulting in Jaw bone infection. I want to ask whether one year infection in bone can be cured with medicine and is clindamycin best for it or there is surgery required to remove the dead and infected bone. I will be thankful if any one guide me and God will help you in the time of need. Those who help humanity. God loves them.
Avatar n tn clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis. I have thought about this long and hard since getting my DEXA result. I've never used any of the biophosphates such as Boniva or Actonel and the reason is my doctor put me directly on to the Prolia as soon as my DEXA went from Osteopenia into Osteoporosis. So, now, I am going to ask if it would be beneficial to do 6 mon. of Boniva and then, resume the Prolia.
Avatar n tn m 40 years old and recently found out that I also have osteo penia in one of the vertabrae in my lower back and my doctor wants me to take Actonel...however, those bone density medications can really exacerbate the reflux problems.
Avatar f tn Mind you it was so large that it wrapped around the bone and was traveling down my neck, and traveling up the bone towards my ear! Now after only three days on the antibiotic, my tongue is very red in spots, bleeds and is so painful that drinking water hurts. Now there is an ulcer type sore on the other side of my mouth but on the upper jaw-line. Any ideas what this could be or how to get the pain under control?
Avatar n tn I am going to have a dental bone graft in my upper jaw. I am flying to Budapest to get the treatment. The dental bone graft involves a sinus lift. I have been told after having a sinus lift you shouldn't do anything that will rapidly raise or lower pressure in your sinuses such as flying. The problem I am having is the conflicting advice on the number of days I have to wait before flying back home.
Avatar n tn For a couple of weeks I have had a horrible aching pain in what feels like my lower jaw bone. The pain is so severe that I will wake up in the middle of the night and can do nothing to ease the pain. My teeth have also been very sensitive, even to drink a cold drink or hot tea. I have recently had a couple of cavities filled but this did not start untill a couple of weeks after so Im not sure if they are connected or not.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had bone graft last Friday taken from my bottom left jaw and the bone was then put into my top gum i am in the early stages of dental implants. They are my front two teeth. All is fine but i still cannot open my mouth properly is this normal..
Avatar n tn She says my jaw bone loss is extensive at this point. If I am getting a partial plate that will cover this area, is the graft really necessary? Thank you.
Avatar f tn My mom took Fosamax and then, Actonel..., altogether 20 yrs on bone drugs and then, still ended up getting osteoporosis, after all those years of treating the osteopenia. Anyhow, I realize, this site is supposed to be concentrating on the Hep. It's just that liver disease and the Hep treatment is a contributing factor in early bone thinning. I never knew this until it happened to me and they gave me the paper that had 'liver disease' on there as one of the contributing factors..
Avatar f tn cut where my wisdom tooth is and now my jaw bone hurts I cant barely open my mouth what do I do and my wisdom tooth isn't out yet
Avatar f tn Sounds like you have a slight degeneration of the jaw bone you need to see your dentist and you might have to have a *** shield for bed time your grinding your teeth and that is causing the pain I have it plus you might need a cream to rub into the jawbone near your ear
Avatar f tn But when he put the gauze in she cried in pain. He then removed it and checked her mouth and said that her jaw bone is exposed, and the root to the next tooth too. He said this is not very common but it does happen. He put the gauze back in and told her that she just has to wait for the skin to grow back over the bone and for her to continue to take her motrin or Tylenol. She told him that she has to take two Vicadin every 4 hours for the pain. It is excruciating!
190673 tn?1259203266 The pain usually comes from the position of the jaw, and the muscles being in a tight position changing how the jaw and mouth anatomy sits, causing discomfort and occludes blood vessels. Like the song says, the ___ bone is connected to the ____ bone... we're all connected and when one thing is tight, usually the next thing down the line is tight. Go for a massage, it will do you good and take out any upper back/neck/shoulder tention you may have.
Avatar f tn food, smelly wind, sore bowels, itchy nd burning bottom. Iv put lots.of weight on and have bone and joint pain 24-7. I feel original symptoms were due to emotional problems and depression not being treated, my doc is not interested in.helping cus of budget cuts, I'm.
Avatar n tn He wants me to see a rheumatologist but an available appointment will be months away. I am 75 and have been on Vytorin for at least 5 years as well as Actonel. My bone scan last year was good for someone my age. What should I do while waiting to see an arthritis doctor? How serious could this be?
