1936550 tn?1348360208 Just want to know my options on birth control. Ones that wont give me mood swings or weight gain, or other major side effects. I've read on the pill labels that it can cause ovarian cysts. My mom had them because of the pills and I saw the amount of pain she was in. Before all I used was condoms but I don't want to worry every month if I'm pregnant or not. My plan is to be on it for two years only then go back to condoms.
Avatar f tn If you were my patient, I would be tempted to give you 14 days of progesterone (Prometrium seems to have fewer side effects) and then repeat the ultrasound before doing a biopsy. If you wanted to continue Vagifem, I would consider scanning again in 3 months to see if the lining was building up again. If so, you could stop the medication, or consider a small daily dose of progesterone. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Micronor (noretindrone) is a Progestin-only birth control medication. One of the primary side-effects of progestin-only oral contraceptives is irregular menstrual bleeding. This can be spotting or breakthrough bleeding, shortened cycles, or amenorrhea. Amenorrhea is the absence of menstruation (one or more missed periods). This is a normal occurrence for some women taking birth control pills.
Avatar f tn I had really bad effects with that birth control! I bled for 3 months straight gained weight and had to get it taken out.
Avatar n tn Not a Doctor or an expert, but.... After researching and researching Plan B I noticed that it contains "progestin." Some of the side effects listed for progestin include some of the symtoms you are decribing. Not all, but some. However, as someone who has worked in the mental health field, I can tell you that when you start worrying over something such as pregnancy, the anxiety drives you to start looking for preganncy symptoms.
778736 tn?1235756590 I have a slightly enlarged goiter (3.8) on the right side of my neck. Back then I had quit smoking, gained a ... [More] ton of weight (gone up from 123 to 164). My colesterol was fairly high too (was 276 and now with a statin an good diet is down to 190). I lost a lot of weight within 2 years by eating right and excercising and came down to 127 and maintained it up til a few months ago. Last year I started skipping my period and was still working out but slowly gaining weight again.
Avatar f tn Side Effects What if I bleed after taking emergency contraceptive pills? Most of the time, there is no reason to worry if you bleed after taking emergency contraceptive pills (also called "morning after pills" or "day after pills"). Although not a common side effect, the hormones in the pills (either progestin alone or progestin combined with estrogen) can cause some women to bleed at unexpected times.
7019649 tn?1396792517 I know I have a while before I decide, but I'd like to start looking at my options now. I didn't do well with the pill. It had very negative side effects for me, so I'm thinking I want to do something that isn't hormonal. My mom got a Mirena and had to have it surgically removed because it migrated, so I'm scared to death of those things, too. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Her doctor wants her to try the shot but she already had nasty side effects when starting the pill, if she gets side effects with the shot it will last much longer. I just don't want to see her in pain anymore, it almost hurts me more to see her suffer.
Avatar n tn I went in for an ultrasound the other day and came back with very shocking news. My doctor immediately said I have endometriosis, seedling fibroids and a cyst in each ovary. The cyst in the left ovary is smaller and no cause for concern as it can be treated with medication. Th right ovarian cyst is apparently 6cm, and is referred to as a chocolate cyst.
Avatar n tn Am Reading through contraception leaflet and these two stand out as having the least bad side effects / disadvantages.... Not sure which to go with. In the past I was on the combined pill and it effected my mood. So I came off of it. But have never tried the above.
360998 tn?1312494518 It will make it normal again with no side effects. It worked for me. You can get it off line or from any drug store. ( GNC, wal-greens, riteaid, ect.) Try it. Look at the forum... a lady just made a post telling every one how it helped her.
Avatar n tn s disease, colon cancer, macular degeneration, urinary incontinence and skin aging. However, HRT has many short-term and long-term side effects. But sometimes, changing the dosage or the way it is administered can help control side effects. It is important to weigh all of the potential benefits and risks, as well as your preferences and needs before beginning HRT with your doctor. Women who take HRT should be closely monitored.
1353681 tn?1387083733 I actually am not on this by choice; it is a method to treat endometriosis (extra growth of uterine tissue).. so mainly birth control pills are what is used to minimize growth (had to have cysts removed this year due to endometriosis)..I don't even date right now lol, so this is just used as a treatment for that. so while it can cause weight gain (my other form did).. this one doesn't have many side effects..
Avatar m tn I asked her if I needed to take any hormone therapy like progesterone, she said no she does not like putting her patients on hormones due to the side effects only if absolutely necessary. so basically she just wants me to see what happens with my periods. I did get a full period three days after the biopsy which was good but who knows when I will get another one.
Avatar n tn I have been researching the cardiovascular effects of birth control and saw that it can raise c-reactive protein levels. How clinically significant is this? I know crp is a measure of inflammation in the body. So is increasing it's level going to actually cause inflammation? Or is it simply upregulated, and if so what are the consequences of that? I recently switched for alesse which has levonorgestrel. I read this progestin has the worst effect on cholesterol levels.
Avatar f tn Just like you, I would often experience the nausea at odd times when I took the oral hormones - estrogen, and progestin. Right now I have a post in about the side effects for me of taking proton pump inhibitors for GERD and how they cause me so many side effects. I have been off Prilosec for one day, and my stomach is somewhat better, and I feel better in general. But when the heartburn and pain comes back, I will try to manage with Tums and antacids. Always, always look at your meds.
Avatar f tn Although it is a common surgery it is inherently damaging because the uterus has LIFE LONG functions - anatomical, skeletal, hormonal and sexual. The side effects don't necessarily occur right away. I had an unwarranted hysterectomy after my gyn said it was necessary and rushed me into surgery. I wish I had done things very differently.
Avatar n tn The doctor will start you on a basic birth control, probably combination estrogen / progestin, bare in mind there are different concentrations which can lead to different benefits/ side effects or they might not work as indicated at first. Doctors usually recommend 3 month trial before switching.
Avatar m tn I have read what feels like hundreds of stories about the Depo shot and how people have bleed all year with it, or have some of the side effects that the FDA said are pretty uncommon? I am 33 yrs old not children and don't plan on having any. I wanted to use the Depo as a form of birth control so that my boyfriend and I don't have to worry about the possibility of getting pregnant. Is the depo shot as bad as people are saying it is? NEED HELP!!!
Avatar f tn You may wish to consider starting Metformin, because sometimes it can not only regulate cycles, but also help with weight loss. There are some side effects that you will definitely want to discuss with your doctor first, but it works well for some women. IF you do decide to give it a try, remember that regular periods often means normal fertility, so if you don't want a baby now . . . If not, you're already on the right track with weight loss, and exercise. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I had extreme weight gain and nausea.Mood swings as well. But then again all women are diff. When I spoke about the weight gain to my urologist he said what are you taking and I told him and he said didn't they warn you that its a side-effect.I said no.Anyway it didn't work for me either.I was on it for 6 months with no relief.I have had partial hyst as well and many laps too. I am finally having hopefully my last endo surgery with an endo specialist. My endo has taken over.
Avatar f tn I am very frightened to go through with the surgery due to severe side effects like losing my voice and memory. Is there any medication I could take instead of the surgery? Also, I have been on a hormone tablet called Primolut Nor 10 mg (it contains progesterone. I was prescribed this for heavy bleeding due to uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts) for 6 years. All my problems started after this. I developed tumours in my breasts, liver and now in my thyroid.
