Common Questions and Answers about Acne treatment retinol

Avatar f tn Hi, I posted a question a while back about retinol. I am a 53 year old female former smoker. I wanted to ask about etinol again, because I am very interested to know whether anyone has used a good strength OTC retinol product like Vichy, Boots or Green Cream (or prescription treitonin, Retin-A). Have you seen good results, specifically whether it may have helped with smoking wrinkles and sun damage. I know that you cannot get rid of wrinkles from smoking.
Avatar f tn Retinol (retinoic acid, Vitamin A acid) is a retinoid and vitamin A metabolite used topically for the treatment of acne vulgaris and other skin disorders. Like other retinoids, it is a potent teratogen following exposure in early pregnancy producing a variety of birth defects. When used topically, however, the risk is thought to be close to Zero. Elevated serum concentrations of all-trans reoinoic acid in early gestation are cnsidered teratogenic in humans.
Avatar f tn I don't know, but if I wanted to know something like this I'd probably talk to my dermatologist or contact the company that makes it. As this product is stronger than retinol, I'm not sure why you'd want to add more of this but that's up to you. I'd say the thing to worry most about is that moisturizers are usually made with oil, and if you have chronic acne you have a problem with clogged pores.
Avatar f tn Um I used extremely expensive Strivectin ar advanced retinol night treatment and woke up to my skin looking terrible and every pore on my face visible but not a bit of dryness or flaking so it has nothing to do with it being a drugstore brand.
Avatar f tn is it ok to use proactiv+ cleansing body bar with salicylic acid acne treatment?
Avatar f tn It seems to be as strong as this accutane/isotrenoin - given what I have read up on it, which I suspect is a derivative of retinol. Again retinol should be banned!!!
Avatar f tn Please tell what I should do about back acne. Never in my life have had acne until now. I am 11 wks ....
Avatar f tn Hi, I have post inflammatory hyper pigmentation and I've had it for absolutely ages. After I get rid of a breakout it always leaves a red mark and it doesn't fade away! I've read online that they do fade away but for some reason mine aren't.. I still have some hyper pigmentation from some spots I had about 12-24 months ago.
Avatar f tn I'm 14.5 weeks and FTM at 35. I'm having a horrible time with acne and wonder if anyone has remedies or recommendations. I have what almost appears to be a rash on the sides of my face and forehead. It's little bumps & so annoying as well as random cysts. OB doctor made a dermatologist referral this week but I'm not sure there's much I can do/take while pregnant.
1186413 tn?1326730549 I just started getting really bad acne and my dermotologest prescribed me erithromiacin gel. I usally use retinol cream but can't with pregnancy. I plan on talking to my OB next appt.
492921 tn?1321289896 I have recently had a severe acne breakout. I usually use retinol cream and benzol peroxide spot treatment. These products can not be used durin pregnancy! It was a suprise to me. Every over the counter acne product has benzol peroxide in it. I just thought I would share this info with you ladies. I used the benzol peroxide for 4 days before I found out it isn't safe. I know that acne is a pretty common occurance in pregnancy and there is nothing over the counter that you can use.
Avatar f tn Then, apply an eye cream that contains Retinol and vitamin K. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables to prevent the vitamin deficiencies that can affect your skin’s appearance. Reducing your salt intake will also help improve the look of your skin. One treatment is to massage almond oil with honey around the eyes before going to bed. http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn My weight has yo-yo'd twice in my adult life (once in my early 20s and now in my mid 30s), and I'm currently on the decline for the second (and, I hope, final) time. I'm a little concerned about loose skin because I am older and this is my second time being >200 lb. In addition to maintaining a healthy eating and exercise plan, I'd like to do as much as possible to minimize loose skin. I currently use Atralin 0.
Avatar n tn I recently began going for facials and my aesthetician told me to stop using my retinol products, as she said it ages and thins the skin. She recommends glycolic peels instead. This is contrary to everything I've heard. I thought retinol thickened the skin and stimulated collagen growth, and glycolic peels thinned the skin. Am I mistaken?
Avatar n tn I am in my late 30's and have been using retinol for my face for years now and i find it really effective. I was wondering if i can use it under my eyes as well. The skin under my eyes have fine lines, and looks dull and dry. if not, what can you recommend I could use to make it more youthful looking? Thank you.
Avatar f tn It's actually only a particular form of vitamin A called retinol. The vitamin A in most foods is perfectly safe, as it has to go through a LONG metabolic process before it reaches retinol, which is the final product, and can be somewhat toxic in high amounts to your fetus. The only big food source of retinol is liver, so just don't eat too much liver during pregnancy and you'll be fine.
492921 tn?1321289896 I'm sure it's not heat rash it's cold out and I haven't been sweaty. The nurse called and I ended up having to go into see the Dr. I have a rash and he doesn't know why but gave me an RX for a cream. The only new product I have been using is Palmers Tummy Butter. He said stop using it. I also found out that I can't use any of my face products since I'm pregnant so he called in an Rx for acne too.
Avatar n tn My mom which is 86 has used retinol on her face and she has a very bad painful rash all over. And a bloody mouth. What should she do?
Avatar n tn I have just read that you are not supposed to use any product with retinol palmitate while pregnant. I am 20 weeks along and just looked at my facial lotion..yup retinol palmitate...
1847035 tn?1327274923 I use neutrogena the brown face bar for acne prone skin for years it can be drying just dnt leave the soap on longer than a minute it washes clean and contains no medicine use a good face lotion as well with breakouts apply a cream from cvs or rite aid that contains benzoyl peroxide and apply generously at night or every other its drying then u should start to clear if u have huge cyst like bumps.
Avatar n tn I was told to avoid eating liver because it is loaded with Vitamin A. This is what I found out about vitamin A on line! http://www.babycenter.com/0_vitamin-a-in-your-pregnancy-diet_675.bc?
Avatar m tn Hello, Fusidic acid and minocycline are both antibiotics which are used for the treatment of acne. Treatment options include topical and oral antibiotics, topical retinoids, hormonal therapy, dermabrasion , phototherapy and laser resurfacing. Normally a combination of treatments is followed and if nothing proves effective then dermabrasion and laser therapy are useful. You can discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist.
Avatar m tn I use a wide range of products daily for skincare, for reference. These include, Niacinamide + Zinc serum, Retinol Serum, Vitimin C serum and I derma roll once a week. Attached is a picture of my face for reference, Please help! https://imgur.
Avatar f tn In this study, in the 28-week treatment arm, rapid viral response (RVR) criteria at 4 weeks of boceprevir treatment (treatment week 8) will be used to determine which boceprevir patients can stop all treatment at 28 weeks. Patients in the 28-week boceprevir arm who achieve RVR, defined as undetectable virus (HCV-RNA) in plasma at week 4 of boceprevir treatment, will stop all treatment at week 28.
