545538 tn?1295992017 Stupidly I had chicken parm, bruchetta and ziti last night, finishing it off with apple pie and ice cream. While it was yummy in the tummy, it wasn't for long. I woke up around midnight with the worst heartburn. I didn't have anything but TUMS and I ended up taking around 12 of those over the course of the night and still suffered! I know we're not supposed to take antiacids like tums because of their reaction with Ribavirin, but I had to take something.
428886 tn?1217682034 Oh the dreaded heartburn with riba, ask your doctor about writing you an rx for nexium, its a proton pump inhibitor. different from over the counter anti acids. And can be taken safely during tx. And they work.
1289966 tn?1326101570 Diane just asked if Pepsid was the same this is the response: Jmjm had the worst case of GERD out of just about anybody on the forum and he said these are ok - it's the same thing copyman said so I guess it's perfectly fine just stay away from Tums and Mylanta and Maalox and those things! Just don't take Pepsid complete!
Avatar f tn AcipHex is also an option. There are quite some drugs which block acid secretion though.
Avatar f tn I've had continual discolored stool (yellow, green, orange, black) for years along with daily movements anywhere from 3-6 times. This has been quite "regular" for me but when asking doctors about this they say it is normal or disregard my concerns. However, I do not feel that it is "normal".
238010 tn?1420406272 Has anyone treated acid reflux while having hep C? I was going to try Prilosec, then read that people with liver damage shouldn't take it. I've been sleeping upright at night but it's not enough.
Avatar f tn My husband was originally on Aciphex, but placed on Nexium after our insurance stopped covering aciphex and he was miserable. Aciphex has always worked so much better for him. Finally, after a year of misery he's back on aciphex and so much happier. I hope it works as well for you.
Avatar n tn Once the bacteria has been eradicated the stomach is still producing extra acid therefore one should continue taking acid reducing medication for some time. I made a hugh mistake and stopped use of the PPI(in my case Aciphex) immeidately after taking the last antibiotic for H. Pylori. I am now back on Aciphex and my Water Brash symptoms have diminshed greatly.
Avatar f tn I have been having a tough go with acid reflux. I have tried everything to help prevent it as treat it even as far as drinking apple cider vinegar which was the only thing that actually worked. Tonight I woke up from a dead sleep choking I could not breath talk or anything just gasp for air. I ran to the bathroom and being 9 months pregnant was a task alone and had to give myself the hymlic to be able to breath again. Anyone having this problem?
177337 tn?1310059899 RNRita - I'm worried about going off because it really did help. I used to use Gaviscon but it stopped working. I have been on Protonix for quite a while so maybe I will stop and see if I can have luck with Gaviscon and Tums again. Did the pvc's stop right away as soon as you went off it? WIsconsin2007 - I don't see any literature with palps as a side effect either and my cardio gave them to me and told me it wouldn't bother my heart. But I have to wonder....
Avatar f tn I have been taking Aciphex for a couple years with good results. However I recently had a sinus infection and took Amoxicillin for 7 days. Here it is, 2 weeks after stopping the Amoxicillin, I am having severe heartburn again. Did the antibiotic have anything to do with this?
Avatar m tn Which, incidentally, stopped when I stopped taking the aciphex. Shortly after taking the aciphex I started experiencing symptoms of GERD. I still have the GERD to this day - some days its worse than others. I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?
Avatar n tn org/posts/Gastroenterology/Could-Candida-Be-To-Blame/show/1721400 and I am still not diagnosed with what is wrong with me. I have a glucose hydrogen breath test scheduled for June 15th. Were they able to test you for glucose, lactose and bacteria all during the same day?
Avatar f tn Tums are completely and 100% safe to take. I've heard people on here say no to the baking soda but I've heard it's completely safe n my doctor told me it was too. Some people on here are weird....lol heard the baking soda is incredibly disgusting tho.
Avatar n tn I tried aciphex, which worked great for about 6 months, then stopped working. I switched to taking tums multiple times a day, which worked for a couple months and then stopped. I tried Kapidex which also worked perfectly for about 3 months and then completely stopped working. Zantac worked for about a month and is now subsiding. My doctor has added carafate, but the pains are still not gone. They usually come when I haven't eaten for a while and let myself get hungry at all.
Avatar n tn I tried it but didnt seem to help with me. Again I am like u i think it is like prevacid with sodium. I just make u burp alot and I was on the powder ahich tasted horrible.
8593574 tn?1398970803 What tums do you ladies recommend?
Avatar n tn Since then I am taking Acid suppressants such as Nexium and Aciphex as prescribed by my doctor. I also underwent Endoscopy and Biopsy, Abdominal Ultrasound, X-Ray and Blood test . All the tests came normal except they found H-Pilory infection and I took antibiotics and subsequent Stool test for H-Pilory showed negative. I am still having all the above discomforts which is going on for 5 months. I normally eat very healthy and I am following a strict diet since this problem started.
Avatar n tn Dear Mrsrobert, welcome to the medhelp forum. Aciphex or rabeprazole is proton pump inhibitor and tingling extremities can occur with prolonged use. You need to inform your doctor immediately if you have been taking this drug for a while and have suggestive signs of Vitamin B12 deficiency like sore tongue, excessive weakness, tingling and numbness in the extremities due to decreased gastrointestinal absorption.
Avatar f tn 18 weeks pregannt. Am I aloud to take tums ?
Avatar f tn My doc told me to take Zantac once before bed and once when I wake up and to take tums with calcium in between. I also find that drinking a lil bit of sprite helps because it makes me burp and it relieves a lot of the burning and uncomfortable pain.
Avatar f tn Tums is ok but if you read the bottle, it says no more than 5 in 24hours if your pregnant
4220225 tn?1360685122 I'm taking tums for calcium. I take two/day now. I'm thinking of doing two twice a day since I'm not getting much in my diet. Is anyone else taking tums for calcium and how many?
Avatar f tn I hate tums, i just deal with the heartburn, i dont take anything for it
4111382 tn?1356207828 I have the worst heartburn and recently found out pregnant people are allowed with them, lol. It says on the back that pregnant women are only allowed 5 a day... But everyone always says they eat tums like candy or that they go through them so fast... Anyway, is it safe to eat more then 5 a day? I just ate two and sad that I ate them so fast!
