Which, incidentally, stopped when I stopped taking the aciphex. Shortly after taking the aciphex I started experiencing symptoms of GERD. I still have the GERD to this day - some days its worse than others. I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?
Am exactly where you are. Weight loss, loose foul smelling pale stools and alot of gas. The gas is so much that I have flatal incontinence. It passes out without my knowledge and this is what has brought my life to a standstill.
Tests so far stool culture is OK, colonoscopy is OK, liver is OK, pancreas is OK, ESR is OK, blood sugar is ok, thyroid is OK. But the problem persists. I Don't drink at all and I've quit smoking since this started months ago.
What could be my problem.
pylori bacteria in the digestive tract. The irony is, if you have ulcers and take Aciphex alone, the Aciphex could make the symptoms worse. Clearly something changed after taking the antibiotics, and now your ally in heartburn control has become your enemy. It might be worth getting back to your physician on this one, since antibiotics can often be a "swinging door", killing some bacteria while making it easier for other bacteria to get through that otherwise wouldn't have.
small intestine...large intestine. When I lie down....no burping occurs. My dr. put me on aciphex about a month ago thinking it was my acid reflux acting up as I was on Aciphex for one year...2 years ago for mild erosive esophagus and GERD...(I never got hertburn or anything....guess I'm the silent GERD). The aciphex has helped with the few episodes of stomach pain I was getting in the middle of the night but didn't help with the burping or bloating.
Since then I am taking Acid suppressants such as Nexium and Aciphex as prescribed by my doctor. I also underwent Endoscopy and Biopsy, Abdominal Ultrasound, X-Ray and Blood test . All the tests came normal except they found H-Pilory infection and I took antibiotics and subsequent Stool test for H-Pilory showed negative. I am still having all the above discomforts which is going on for 5 months. I normally eat very healthy and I am following a strict diet since this problem started.

Has anyone tried Zegerid? So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me.
I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?).
Pain under right rib cage spreading to back (not always and not incapacitating), fatigue, a feeling of general malaise, complete loss of appetite, loss of weight (26 pounds in 2 and half months), on and off diarrhea and constipation, bloating, burping, terrible indigestion, itchy skin, and a feeling in my upper throat of tightness and that it could swell shut (this is now constant). Lately the pain has been going to my upper abdomen and left side as well.
I have been belching almost nonstop for nearly two months and also have substernal pain which my doctor has diagnosed as GERD and started me on Aciphex. Unfortunately, the Aciphex does not seem to help at all and I have been taking antacids without much relief either. I have noticed on this forum that an H.pylori test might be indicated and I am going to suggest that to my doctor.
told no I am not fine, one area no concern, other area metaplasia, was I still taking the Aciphex. I have gone back on the Aciphex but am terrified after reading on websites that I did the wrong thing. Endoscopy only done originally because I had still unexplained/diagnosis following three days of diarrhea, cramping, dehydration. On antibiotiic, H pylori ruled out. History of GERD, hiatal hernia. Control symptoms with diet, OTC Gaviscon.
I have been on Aciphex 20 since 2007, with instant results. After changing Health Ins. , I am told by the current insurer that they won't cover Aciphex. I must go thru a step program, starting with Nexium, which my Doctor dosed at 40 mg instead of 20 mg, saying Nexium didn't come in 20 and the 40mg of Nexium is comparable to the 20 mg Aciphex . Questions: (1) Is the above true? (2) Are the side effects the same, and (3) What's the difference between the two.
I've taken Aciphex for over 10 years for extreme GERD. Since all the new studues came out about it being so bad long term, I decided to try and get off it. I'm down from 20mg a day to 20mg every 3-4 days. I've weaned over the last 2 months, had horrible rebound and can't get passed this stage. I have bad stomach pains, diarrhea, nausea. I'm supplementing with Tums currently.
Any helpful advice is appreciated. I'm ready to give up.
I had also lost between 5 and 10% of my body weight. My muscles in my upper body and gluts seemed to be disappearing, particularly my deltoids and shoulders. My usually low bp and pulse would skyrocket (resting 95-105 bpm, 145/85) and quickly decrease. After about a month the rubbery collar feeling began to disappear. About that same time, I noticed a easily visible peas-sized hard lump fixed to the midline of my trachea just above my collarbone. This is when I decided to go to my PCP.
I have for the past 10 years been on Aciphex 20mg for to much acid in my stomache, I was at 4 times the normal amount but now I have about 7 times to normal amount I have been taking 2 aciphex pills in the am and 1 in the evening. When I had my last scope I also had alot of irritation and alot of stomache polyps. I have latlely been having alot of diarreha about 2 hours after I eat and I'm generally not feeling well.
well I am going to see my GI doc monday.. I have GERD and was taking AcipHex but had to stop when I found out I was pregnant.. so I am hoping it is just severe GERD related to that.. however, my lower back (flank, both sides) )is hurting more this morning, where the kidneys are.??? I am just wondering if the 2 can be related.. took pepto bismol last night and that seemed to help the stomach pain a little, but not completely... thanks for input!
had mylanta and prilosec and the situation got improved.. doctor recommended aciphex and currently i am on that.. situation seems to get better but at times, the condition that I have something stuck in throat and a little difficulty to swallow flares up. Got a sore throat a couple of days back. but now it is better. feeling weak and has muscle pains occasionally.. any ideas? should i expect improvement only after a while? currently i am on the 15th day of taking aciphex...
He recommended I go back on Aciphex or another PPI and to take Benadryl. This seems to make sense. I asked my GI about my hypersalivation problem but he did not know what the cause could be. After the Endoscopy and the H. Pylori visit, the GI doesn't wanted to be bothered. Anyone else have a similar experience?
My husband is taking Aciphex for reflux, yet he continues to have stomach pain, not hearburn. He has recently had an upper GI and nothing was found. Nothing he takes orally helps the pain. What should he do if the specialist can't find his problem.
the first week (on a low fat diet and eating nothing practically) Then tried without it on apple vinegar pills and beano before meals. had some relief but not all the time. monday he put me on aciphex and i had severe headaches and sweating, but it cleared up acid reflux right away. Was wondering if i could try Zantac. Would that not cause weight gain? i am so miserable and hope i don't have to live forever like this.
@tompalatine: None, really. In fact, I'm guessing a large part of the time it isn't discovered until there are stones in the gallbladder already, and then only when they're causing trouble. That said, lazy gallbladder does (from what I've read) lead to eventual stone formation, what with the not moving of the bile and all.
