Aciphex vs zantac

Common Questions and Answers about Aciphex vs zantac

aciphex

Avatar f tn My husband was originally on Aciphex, but placed on Nexium after our insurance stopped covering aciphex and he was miserable. Aciphex has always worked so much better for him. Finally, after a year of misery he's back on aciphex and so much happier. I hope it works as well for you.
Avatar f tn I am on 5mg Reglan 2-3 times daily for gastroparesis. Also, Nexium 40mg and zantac 150 mg. Is there any concern of being on any of these drugs long term?
Avatar n tn Prevacid, Nexium, Protonix, Aciphex, Zantac, and Pepcid are all used to treat reflux. You can ask you doctor who will know best which one is least likely to cause you dizzyness.
Avatar f tn I have for the past 10 years been on Aciphex 20mg for to much acid in my stomache, I was at 4 times the normal amount but now I have about 7 times to normal amount I have been taking 2 aciphex pills in the am and 1 in the evening. When I had my last scope I also had alot of irritation and alot of stomache polyps. I have latlely been having alot of diarreha about 2 hours after I eat and I'm generally not feeling well.
Avatar n tn Once the bacteria has been eradicated the stomach is still producing extra acid therefore one should continue taking acid reducing medication for some time. I made a hugh mistake and stopped use of the PPI(in my case Aciphex) immeidately after taking the last antibiotic for H. Pylori. I am now back on Aciphex and my Water Brash symptoms have diminshed greatly.
Avatar f tn the first week (on a low fat diet and eating nothing practically) Then tried without it on apple vinegar pills and beano before meals. had some relief but not all the time. monday he put me on aciphex and i had severe headaches and sweating, but it cleared up acid reflux right away. Was wondering if i could try Zantac. Would that not cause weight gain? i am so miserable and hope i don't have to live forever like this.
Avatar f tn aciphex, otc omeprazole, protonix, prevacid, nexium, prilosec, and zantac (and maybe more that I'm forgetting). They do nothing for me! Some help a little more than others. My doctors keep brushing me aside and I can't eat or breathe! I can't even lay on my side at night, I have to prop up on my back with pillows. Also, my father and aunt have severe Crohn's Disease and ileostomies. My dad just recently died of unknown causes and my aunt is on a daily feeding IV.
Avatar m tn 4 PPIs: Nexium, Prevacid, Aciphex, Protonix; 2 H2blockers: Zantac and Pepcid; 2 antiacids: Gaviscon and Riopan. I couldn't take any of these more than a few days (from 1 to 13 days) because of their side effects. The 2 bad side effects I've most often had are: worsened IBS - bad abdominal cramps (caused by Nexium together with fever and Zantac) a white-coated and burning tongue (caused by Prevacid, Zantac, Protonix, Pepcid, Riopan).
Avatar m tn my gerd cleared up , i healed up completely and i felt great .....no side effects . u should ask ur doc about aciphex ....... i tried everything and aciphex is the best ....... let me know what happens ....
Avatar m tn I have tried a lot of medications (Pepicd, Zantac, Prilosec, Aciphex and now Nexium). None have really helped that much. I have been on Nexium for about 3 weeks and over the first week I started feeling better, but I guess I leveled off because I am at a point that is a little better than 3 weeks ago but still not very good. I have had pretty much every test, blood work, Upper GI, ultrasound and an endoscopy and they have found nothing. I have never been a big spicy or fatty food eater.
Avatar n tn then all at once it came back but now i get the shakey, lightheaded, feeling, pain under my left rib cage, fullness in the middle of my chest, lump feeling in my throat, and sometimes that acidy taste when i burp in my throat and mouth, along with the heavy chest feeling and racing heart. i take zantac 150 now maybe itll work. idk... just wondering if anyone else feels this way or am i going crazy or is it something else. also i have lots of gas that seems to come and go from time to time.
Avatar n tn Fast forward another 4 years to this past week and I was trying to see what would happen if I laid off my Aciphex since I suspected it was causing dizziness for me. I was off it for about 7 days (on Zantac) and I went out and did some yard work all morning. I come inside when I'm done and eat a granola bar and drink some water and about 20 minutes later I'm bending down to take off my shoes and BAM...the palpitations kick in and my heart is pounding super hard and super fast.
Avatar n tn the cramps were so bad (curling up in my bed bad) that i never went back to aciphex and have been on prescription Zantac, or ranitidine, for about 2 years. each pill is twice the dosage of the OTC 150mg pill. i take 2 a day and Still have discomfort every once in a while. i was also prescribed a flovent inhaler for which i take 2 puffs twice a day and swallow the medication instead of inhaling it and i take 1 singulair before bed.
Avatar f tn On a side note I too, have acid reflux and take aciphex. I had it before treatment though. Aciphex is pricey but the manufacturer has a rebate that keeps it down to about $25.00 a month. I sometimes feel like stuff is trying to sit in my throat and some foods are worse than others. I have a big deal with bran cereal now that I didn't have before treatment but I honestly am ok with that. Being free of hep c is awesome.
Avatar n tn It worked for a while, about 6 months, and now does not work at all. I have been prescribed 2 Aciphex and 2 Zantac tablets a day. This is more medication than what I was taking before the surgery. Has anyone had a similiar experience with this surgery? Does anyone know any other solutions to this problem? I would like to add that I have had my gall bladder removed. This was done prior to the Nissan. I now experience a lot of indigestiion, heart burn, and gas and bloating.
Avatar f tn This helped a little for a while but now the scratchy throat has returned. At the advice of a pharmacist, I was told to try Zantac, not everyday but I have tried it for the past 72 hours and I'm going to not take it tomorrow since it's not good to mix two acid blockers. But nothing is helping. I'm so exasperated from this, it's untolerable. Please help, I need some advice. What has worked for you.
Avatar n tn I started taking Zantac 150 and it seemed okay but I started have occasional nausea and sharp pains in the stomach area. My Internal Medicine doctor advised the ulcer is being aggravated by the acid which is causing nausea and pain, the Zantac was not strong enough. She prescribed Protonix 40mg twice a day, I have been on that and feel great; no fatigue, no nausea, no pain!
Avatar m tn I’m traveling for the next couple week and plan on seeing my doctor when I get back. Valium seems to make me feel better… Acid reducers like Zantac don’t help all that much. The tightness in my throat also seems to get worse when I’m out in cold weather. I know this is an internet diagnosis…. But I’m wondering does this sound like Reflux… Anxiety…. Could this be the start of some condition like COPD… or Asthma?
Avatar n tn ve tried so many remedies for heartburn (including Aciphex, Nexium, Zantac, Betaine HCL, baking soda, Pepto Bismol) that don't work. I'm curious if it isn't heartburn at all. Are there any other diseases/conditions that can cause extreme burning/gripping/tight sensations in that area? Thanks a lot in advance for any responses.
Avatar n tn I assured the doctor that I had no more heartburn and just the Lump feeling and he still prescribed AciPhex (20 mg per day). I took it not suspecting that I potentially did not need it. The Lump feeling went away after just 1 to 2 days. I was fine and I stopped taking the AciPhex after about a week. I went on completely symptom free for another 7 days (about two weeks total). Then, regretfully and stupidly, I drank again for a couple of days (around Feb 5th).
Avatar m tn Which, incidentally, stopped when I stopped taking the aciphex. Shortly after taking the aciphex I started experiencing symptoms of GERD. I still have the GERD to this day - some days its worse than others. I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?
Avatar m tn The burning is quite consistent, and I also have a bit of bloating and slight gas feel in it too as I will get subtle type of gas pains. I went to my regular Dr. a few days ago and he put me on Aciphex. I've been on it for abou 4 days and so far I'm getting nothing from it, although he did say to give it a week. The only thing that does give me relief for 10-12 hours is Zantac (although it takes about 2 hours to kick in it seems).
Avatar n tn I tried aciphex, which worked great for about 6 months, then stopped working. I switched to taking tums multiple times a day, which worked for a couple months and then stopped. I tried Kapidex which also worked perfectly for about 3 months and then completely stopped working. Zantac worked for about a month and is now subsiding. My doctor has added carafate, but the pains are still not gone. They usually come when I haven't eaten for a while and let myself get hungry at all.
Avatar f tn pylori bacteria in the digestive tract. The irony is, if you have ulcers and take Aciphex alone, the Aciphex could make the symptoms worse. Clearly something changed after taking the antibiotics, and now your ally in heartburn control has become your enemy. It might be worth getting back to your physician on this one, since antibiotics can often be a "swinging door", killing some bacteria while making it easier for other bacteria to get through that otherwise wouldn't have.
Avatar m tn Hi again ireneo! I have never had an esophageal spasm but I do know by my own experiences (both as a nurse and a patient) that SOB occurs with angina and stays until the the pain from the tightened heart muscle ( blockage or spasms) is relieved by stopping an exertion or taking a vasodiolator like nitro. Cheetoh, take a zantac if you think it's from the digestive track. Zantac will not stop heart angina pain, but nitro COULD relieve the digestive discomfort.
