Aciphex tums

Common Questions and Answers about Aciphex tums

aciphex

Avatar f tn I've taken Aciphex for over 10 years for extreme GERD. Since all the new studues came out about it being so bad long term, I decided to try and get off it. I'm down from 20mg a day to 20mg every 3-4 days. I've weaned over the last 2 months, had horrible rebound and can't get passed this stage. I have bad stomach pains, diarrhea, nausea. I'm supplementing with Tums currently. Any helpful advice is appreciated. I'm ready to give up.
Avatar m tn I belch a lot and I take 3-4 Tums a day, sometimes the Tums help other times they do not. I have also been having a burning sensation lower, around my belly button and lower. I have tried a lot of medications (Pepicd, Zantac, Prilosec, Aciphex and now Nexium). None have really helped that much.
545538 tn?1295992017 Stupidly I had chicken parm, bruchetta and ziti last night, finishing it off with apple pie and ice cream. While it was yummy in the tummy, it wasn't for long. I woke up around midnight with the worst heartburn. I didn't have anything but TUMS and I ended up taking around 12 of those over the course of the night and still suffered! I know we're not supposed to take antiacids like tums because of their reaction with Ribavirin, but I had to take something.
428886 tn?1217682034 So you say the dreaded heartburn, I guess that means it rears it's ugly head in others. I have not been one to have heartburn, so I thought I was having a heartattack. I was put on Aciphex. It has worked.
1289966 tn?1326101570 Diane just asked if Pepsid was the same this is the response: Jmjm had the worst case of GERD out of just about anybody on the forum and he said these are ok - it's the same thing copyman said so I guess it's perfectly fine just stay away from Tums and Mylanta and Maalox and those things! Just don't take Pepsid complete!
Avatar f tn AcipHex is also an option. There are quite some drugs which block acid secretion though.
Avatar f tn I have been previously diagnosed with GERD and herniated stomach and have been treated with all the stomach meds available--currently being on aciphex which is now not as effective as before (as all other meds did the same after being on them for an extended period). I am once again up to 6 to 10 tums daily in addition to my prescribed aciphex to get some relief.
238010 tn?1420406272 I had been taking Prevacid, then Aciphex then Dexilant, all heavy weight prescription drugs for reflux once, sometimes twice a day for years with HepC and little if any fibrosis. When you are treating I think you need to be careful from what I have heard (see post on the subject of other medications and treatment). This of course doesn't mean one doesn't make the necessary dietary changes as well as not eating within 4 hours of bedtime and elevating the head of the bed etc.
Avatar f tn My husband was originally on Aciphex, but placed on Nexium after our insurance stopped covering aciphex and he was miserable. Aciphex has always worked so much better for him. Finally, after a year of misery he's back on aciphex and so much happier. I hope it works as well for you.
Avatar n tn Once the bacteria has been eradicated the stomach is still producing extra acid therefore one should continue taking acid reducing medication for some time. I made a hugh mistake and stopped use of the PPI(in my case Aciphex) immeidately after taking the last antibiotic for H. Pylori. I am now back on Aciphex and my Water Brash symptoms have diminshed greatly.
Avatar f tn I had acid reflux 6 years ago and went to my primary care doctor the next day and she told me my stomach lining was irritated due to so much stress...I was prescribed Aciphex which is actually safe during pregnancy and told to take rolaids when needed...I was told don't lay down after eating and stop eating three hours before bed...I healed which was great and I actually had it two nights ago now that I'm 27 weeks pregnant and it was because I ate and went to sleep an hour after that...
177337 tn?1310059899 When I thought back to all my times on Protonix or Aciphex, I can DEFINITELY tell you there is a correlation. I have extreme acid, so I've tested this over the last few months. Every single time I start one of these, my PVCs become much worse. When I posted I got a lot of responses that the same thing happened to others. Now I just take after-the-fact drugs like Zantac, tums, and Gaviscon. Nothing I can do. I had to decide which I hate worse.
Avatar m tn Which, incidentally, stopped when I stopped taking the aciphex. Shortly after taking the aciphex I started experiencing symptoms of GERD. I still have the GERD to this day - some days its worse than others. I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?
Avatar f tn pylori bacteria in the digestive tract. The irony is, if you have ulcers and take Aciphex alone, the Aciphex could make the symptoms worse. Clearly something changed after taking the antibiotics, and now your ally in heartburn control has become your enemy. It might be worth getting back to your physician on this one, since antibiotics can often be a "swinging door", killing some bacteria while making it easier for other bacteria to get through that otherwise wouldn't have.
Avatar n tn I tried aciphex, which worked great for about 6 months, then stopped working. I switched to taking tums multiple times a day, which worked for a couple months and then stopped. I tried Kapidex which also worked perfectly for about 3 months and then completely stopped working. Zantac worked for about a month and is now subsiding. My doctor has added carafate, but the pains are still not gone. They usually come when I haven't eaten for a while and let myself get hungry at all.
Avatar n tn Since then I am taking Acid suppressants such as Nexium and Aciphex as prescribed by my doctor. I also underwent Endoscopy and Biopsy, Abdominal Ultrasound, X-Ray and Blood test . All the tests came normal except they found H-Pilory infection and I took antibiotics and subsequent Stool test for H-Pilory showed negative. I am still having all the above discomforts which is going on for 5 months. I normally eat very healthy and I am following a strict diet since this problem started.
Avatar f tn is it okay to have TUMS while pregnant??? I really really need oneee!
8593574 tn?1398970803 What tums do you ladies recommend?

Avatar f tn Yes. I eat handfuls of tums a day. I also do candy canes or peppermint & that helps. I'm 2 weeks away from my due date & heart burn has been terrible!
4402502 tn?1355342665 Its almost like an upset stomach but I feel like I have a rock in my stomach. Is this normal? What can I do to make myself feel better while taking tums?
4111382 tn?1356207828 But everyone always says they eat tums like candy or that they go through them so fast... Anyway, is it safe to eat more then 5 a day? I just ate two and sad that I ate them so fast!
