I have actually been on some form of reflux med for a bit longer than 5yrs and started with Prilosec OTC, then prescription Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and briefly Prevacid. These days I tend to take whatever I have in my medicine cabinet (Aciphex or Prevacid) twice a day, max dosage, and occasionally a tagamet to help out. I have a hiatial hernia that is going to be fixed soon so I am hoping to get off the meds and that the side effects will eventually go away...I hope.
I've taken Aciphex for over 10 years for extreme GERD. Since all the new studues came out about it being so bad long term, I decided to try and get off it. I'm down from 20mg a day to 20mg every 3-4 days. I've weaned over the last 2 months, had horrible rebound and can't get passed this stage. I have bad stomach pains, diarrhea, nausea. I'm supplementing with Tums currently.
Any helpful advice is appreciated. I'm ready to give up.
had mylanta and prilosec and the situation got improved.. doctor recommended aciphex and currently i am on that.. situation seems to get better but at times, the condition that I have something stuck in throat and a little difficulty to swallow flares up. Got a sore throat a couple of days back. but now it is better. feeling weak and has muscle pains occasionally.. any ideas? should i expect improvement only after a while? currently i am on the 15th day of taking aciphex...
He feels my saliva is rather bubbly and the cause is possibly related to acid reflux. He recommended I go back on Aciphex or another PPI and to take Benadryl. This seems to make sense. I asked my GI about my hypersalivation problem but he did not know what the cause could be. After the Endoscopy and the H. Pylori visit, the GI doesn't wanted to be bothered. Anyone else have a similar experience?
t noticed much with the mouth but i will now be paying close attention. I have taken Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and Prevacid up to twice a day at the max dosage. I recently had an eye exam but the doc just said i had dry eye and would need glasses when I hit my 50's. Not real helpful.
Which, incidentally, stopped when I stopped taking the aciphex. Shortly after taking the aciphex I started experiencing symptoms of GERD. I still have the GERD to this day - some days its worse than others. I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?
My physician and I have exhausted all other options, so it seems my exercise intolerance is due to my GERD. I have had a PH study which came back pretty nasty, and the GI doc recommended a Nissen, and now my personal doc is as well. However, I want to be completely sure GERD is causing these problems before I go down this road.
Any advice?
However, there is another one, Aciphex, which was about 30 dollars cheaper. I am back on the Prevacid as the Aciphex didn't work as well ( for me...I was on Prevacid for years and only switched because of the cost...65 dollars). You may want to ask about that. Also, I was told my pharmacist that otc prilosic works well too.
Who has had an endoscophy prior, during or post treatment? What was the reason for the endoscophy -- normal pre-tx procedure, suspected cirrhosis, GERD, etc.
Also, for those that had the procedure, did anyone get a diagnosis of Barrett's Esophagus? If so, were PPI's (Nexium, Aciphex, etc) recommended?

In my case I had an endoscophy during treatment for signficant GERD (chronic reflux). It showed a short form of Barrett's. Same with endoscophy post treatment..
pylori bacteria in the digestive tract. The irony is, if you have ulcers and take Aciphex alone, the Aciphex could make the symptoms worse. Clearly something changed after taking the antibiotics, and now your ally in heartburn control has become your enemy. It might be worth getting back to your physician on this one, since antibiotics can often be a "swinging door", killing some bacteria while making it easier for other bacteria to get through that otherwise wouldn't have.

I live in Japan and while my care is excellent, it`s sometimes difficult to talk to my doctor. I`m taking Rabeprazole 10mg but the recommended dosage is 20mg in the US. I`m tall and weigh more than the average Japanese person, though I`m not fat. I`ve been taking it for about 3 weeks and I still have the saliva problem but it seems a little better.
I also have allergies and am wondering if I should see an allergist about this problem, the saliva.
Since then I am taking Acid suppressants such as Nexium and Aciphex as prescribed by my doctor. I also underwent Endoscopy and Biopsy, Abdominal Ultrasound, X-Ray and Blood test . All the tests came normal except they found H-Pilory infection and I took antibiotics and subsequent Stool test for H-Pilory showed negative. I am still having all the above discomforts which is going on for 5 months. I normally eat very healthy and I am following a strict diet since this problem started.
Has anyone tried Zegerid? So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me.
I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?).
told no I am not fine, one area no concern, other area metaplasia, was I still taking the Aciphex. I have gone back on the Aciphex but am terrified after reading on websites that I did the wrong thing. Endoscopy only done originally because I had still unexplained/diagnosis following three days of diarrhea, cramping, dehydration. On antibiotiic, H pylori ruled out. History of GERD, hiatal hernia. Control symptoms with diet, OTC Gaviscon.
I have been on Aciphex 20 since 2007, with instant results. After changing Health Ins. , I am told by the current insurer that they won't cover Aciphex. I must go thru a step program, starting with Nexium, which my Doctor dosed at 40 mg instead of 20 mg, saying Nexium didn't come in 20 and the 40mg of Nexium is comparable to the 20 mg Aciphex . Questions: (1) Is the above true? (2) Are the side effects the same, and (3) What's the difference between the two.
I have for the past 10 years been on Aciphex 20mg for to much acid in my stomache, I was at 4 times the normal amount but now I have about 7 times to normal amount I have been taking 2 aciphex pills in the am and 1 in the evening. When I had my last scope I also had alot of irritation and alot of stomache polyps. I have latlely been having alot of diarreha about 2 hours after I eat and I'm generally not feeling well.
After i had my youngest son, the dr phoned in some meds once i was home from the hospital and he had the dosage wrong too. The pharmacist had a sticky note on the bag and bottle and told me not to take as much as the lable said to because it could damage the liver. Just be careful and dont take as much as the bottle says to. Youre supposed to keep your aceto intake below 4,000 mg at the max for a 24 hr period.
well I am going to see my GI doc monday.. I have GERD and was taking AcipHex but had to stop when I found out I was pregnant.. so I am hoping it is just severe GERD related to that.. however, my lower back (flank, both sides) )is hurting more this morning, where the kidneys are.??? I am just wondering if the 2 can be related.. took pepto bismol last night and that seemed to help the stomach pain a little, but not completely... thanks for input!
