Aciphex ppi

Common Questions and Answers about Aciphex ppi

aciphex

Avatar n tn PPI are very safe medications. I have not seen any of my patients who are on long term PPI develop this side effect.
296025 tn?1233256719 Prevacid is a Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI) like Aciphex, Nexium and Prilosec. It's indicated for GERD (chronic acid reflux) and as far as I know has nothing to do with treating Hep C, other than if you happen to have GERD. I believe Prilosec is a generic sold OTC but not 100% sure so speak to your doctor and pharmacist regarding switching off.
Avatar n tn He recommended I go back on Aciphex or another PPI and to take Benadryl. This seems to make sense. I asked my GI about my hypersalivation problem but he did not know what the cause could be. After the Endoscopy and the H. Pylori visit, the GI doesn't wanted to be bothered. Anyone else have a similar experience?
Avatar m tn I have had GERD for years. I went from Aciphex to Protonix and now Nexium. I have recently had a B-12 count toward the low level (but still in normal range) and am concerned that this is because of the medication. I also heard that the medication can cause stomach cancer. Is using the medication for so long safe? Is there a timframe for which it should be stopped? Also, I recently heard about Kapidex.
Avatar n tn Once the bacteria has been eradicated the stomach is still producing extra acid therefore one should continue taking acid reducing medication for some time. I made a hugh mistake and stopped use of the PPI(in my case Aciphex) immeidately after taking the last antibiotic for H. Pylori. I am now back on Aciphex and my Water Brash symptoms have diminshed greatly.
Avatar m tn I have already seen an ENT specialist who ruled out sinuses as a cause and also identified some irritation around my vocal cords. He advised me to take a PPI (Aciphex) which I have been taking in the morning for the past five weeks, and to see a GI specialist, which I am scheduled to do shortly. The PPI does not seem to have had any effect at all. I have heard and read about "Silent GERD" and was wondering if that could be what I am dealing with.
Avatar m tn i have increased belching and gurgling stomach (especially when i first wake up) for about 5 months and lots of undigested vegetables in my stool (this symptom ive had for years). Ive lost about 15 lbs during this time. I was on aciphex for years because of gerd but was switched to dexilant for gastritis. Ive recently stopped taking the dexilant and am trying bentyl 4x a day but so far no changes. i am very regular with my bowel movements (once a day) so i dont see how it could be ibs.
Avatar f tn I take Aciphex, one 20 mg pill once a day. It mostly works for my GERD - without it it is unbearable. The problem I have is the terrible side effects. They are all gastrointestinal. I am miserable all the time. I feel like my food takes FOREVER to digest and move through my system! I feel like when I eat the food just "sits" there for such a long time. I feel constipated, but can "go" most days, though not completely.
Avatar n tn I tried aciphex, which worked great for about 6 months, then stopped working. I switched to taking tums multiple times a day, which worked for a couple months and then stopped. I tried Kapidex which also worked perfectly for about 3 months and then completely stopped working. Zantac worked for about a month and is now subsiding. My doctor has added carafate, but the pains are still not gone. They usually come when I haven't eaten for a while and let myself get hungry at all.
Avatar f tn Mtgoat, I really hesitate to say this but reglan is not a replacement for any PPI. It's a pro-motility drug and it needs to be taken in a specific manner and it cannot be continued for long periods of time. PLEASE fully discuss the correct use of this med with your doc. As the other poster mentioned, reglan can have some very, very serious drawbacks.
Avatar n tn I have been on Aciphex 20 since 2007, with instant results. After changing Health Ins. , I am told by the current insurer that they won't cover Aciphex. I must go thru a step program, starting with Nexium, which my Doctor dosed at 40 mg instead of 20 mg, saying Nexium didn't come in 20 and the 40mg of Nexium is comparable to the 20 mg Aciphex . Questions: (1) Is the above true? (2) Are the side effects the same, and (3) What's the difference between the two.
Avatar f tn PPI's (proton pump inhibitors) are a group of medications used to treat GERD like Prilosec, Prevacid, Protonix, Aciphex, Nexium, and Dexilant.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the response. I've taken the PPI (aciphex) for 12 days but haven't really noticed much of a difference; I seem to have more relief from Liquid maalox than from the aciphex. My GP told me to switch to omeprazole and also requisitioned a blood test for Lipase and Amylase to make sure my pancreas was not involved. I don't really have any tenderness in my abdomen, and the doctor said she didn't feel or see any abnormalities.
1654177 tn?1319838494 However, I had to give up my proton pump inhibitor completely (Dexilant changed from Aciphex changed from Prevacid). In addition, I was told that I must take Zantac OTC (150 x twice a day is ok) no closer than 10 hours before dosing with the study drugs and no sooner than 2 hours afterwards. This is according to protocol. I have heard before that some drugs interfere with the actions of other drugs. There is also another question you may ask your docs and yourself.
1030353 tn?1262485688 I have the same symptoms as you after a month on protonix. Can you please let know if yours was an allergic reaction? I'm trying now Aciphex after three weeks of not taking any ppis, since I thought that I'm having an allergic reaction. I really hope this ppi will work without the side effects.
Avatar f tn Get off the omeprazole try h2 instead like pepcid took care ofcramps and pain digestion improved ppi cause nutrint issues and sibo good luck
238010 tn?1420406272 I had been taking Prevacid, then Aciphex then Dexilant, all heavy weight prescription drugs for reflux once, sometimes twice a day for years with HepC and little if any fibrosis. When you are treating I think you need to be careful from what I have heard (see post on the subject of other medications and treatment). This of course doesn't mean one doesn't make the necessary dietary changes as well as not eating within 4 hours of bedtime and elevating the head of the bed etc.
Avatar n tn Prilosec is a PPI, just like Nexium, Aciphex, Prevacid, etc. The side effects CalGal mentioned are common to all PPIs. Individually, due to their composition, each carries other side effects which may or may not be shared by others in the class.
Avatar n tn Fom 9/8/2008 through 10/10/08, was taking only 20 mg of Aciphex but was taking so many other medications since doctor diagnosed IBS that I couldn't tell which one was causing the problem. After endoscopy on 10/17/08 and duodonal ulcers found, all other medication was stopped which is how I identified Aciphex was causing major problem.
679466 tn?1247006054 But is there any risk to taking Prilosec or Aciphex or Nexium for the rest of your life? What are the risks? For example - i take Nexium every day, and that prevents any uncomfortable acid issues. If i stop taking the pill, i feel the heartburn. So - if i take 1 pill every day for the rest of my life, of any of the above named medications, what are the risks?
Avatar n tn Spoke with the doc today about possibly going on a lower dose and eventually just stop. He told me to NEVER stop a PPI because the pain you will experience at some point will be intense. I did not tell him that I did just that the summer of 2011 because of frustration with the meds not working.
Avatar n tn I was regurging, feeling heartburn nonstop, etc. etc. My doctor put me on a PPI. That made things ten times worse. I could not sleep for the pain/regurgitation. My doctor has referred me to a specialist in St. Louis, but I still hurt all the time and would like to try anything (within reason) to help ease the chest pain. I tried Betaine HCL and digestive enzymes. These completely fixed every single symptom I have except the severe chest pain. I have a high pain thresh hold.
Avatar n tn d like to elaborate on a couple of things and answer a couple of your questions. As for PPI usage. I started on Prevacid for two years, was switched to Aciphex for four years and then switched to Omeprazole last year because of insurance reasons. The problem started to occur while still on Aciphex, so i don't think switching PPI's has been the problem. As for going off the PPI.
Avatar m tn The first is to perform 24-hour pH testing to determine whether the PPI is ineffective or if a disease other than GERD is likely to be present. If the PPI is ineffective, a higher dose of PPI may be tried. The second option is to go ahead without 24 hour pH testing and to increase the dose of PPI. Another alternative is to add another drug to the PPI that works in a way that is different from the PPI, for example, a pro-motility drug or a foam barrier.
Avatar f tn My husband was originally on Aciphex, but placed on Nexium after our insurance stopped covering aciphex and he was miserable. Aciphex has always worked so much better for him. Finally, after a year of misery he's back on aciphex and so much happier. I hope it works as well for you.
