Avatar f tn i do have a history of ulcers and ibs and barrets esophagus. i do take aciphex and reglan. it happens every night about 2 or 3 in the morning. i feel fine during the day. consulted doctor. he felt that it may be associated with the bronchitis that i had a month ago. finished with antibiotics and no change. phenergan and zofran do not stop it either. please help!!
Avatar m tn Ive lost about 15 lbs during this time. I was on aciphex for years because of gerd but was switched to dexilant for gastritis. Ive recently stopped taking the dexilant and am trying bentyl 4x a day but so far no changes. i am very regular with my bowel movements (once a day) so i dont see how it could be ibs.
Avatar n tn Hi...it sounds like u may have IBS....u seem to be constipated due to ur body drawing fluids from ur intestines...this packs the fecal matter to a hard substance...and then u may have episodes of the runs.....u may also experience bloating or reflux which could be what u r feeling just below the esophagus. The only other thing it could be is a nerve issue that u can not feel when u have to go...so u may want to see a neurologist as well as a GI dr.

Avatar n tn The part about the redundant colon (basically, an extra length of colon) explains the constipation, and the spastic colon points to IBS...weird they can tell during the procedure. I've also been keeping a bowel journal, and found that certain foods were linked to it (beef, milk, corn, broccoli, soy).
Avatar f tn My husband was originally on Aciphex, but placed on Nexium after our insurance stopped covering aciphex and he was miserable. Aciphex has always worked so much better for him. Finally, after a year of misery he's back on aciphex and so much happier. I hope it works as well for you.

Avatar f tn I have been having pain under my left rib cage and in the middle of my chest, where my sternum is. Dr prescribed Aciphex about 2 weeks ago. I haven't felt relief yet. It doesn't get better or worse with food. Had an Upper GI & Small Bowel series done on Thursday, all clear. After the barium test, I had severe pain in RLQ, thinking appendicitis but the pain didn't stay. Could it have been an allergic reaction to the barium? I had an ultrasound on Friday, pelvis and abdomen...

Avatar f tn I am 47 years old was diagnosed with IBS years ago then acid reflux and delayed stomach emptying. I take reglan 1/2 hour before a meal eat nothing spicy or greasy. take aciphex daily which is very expensive and bentyl 3 times a day for bloating and still can not manage the gas and bloating I also take a lot of gas-X with little help. Milk seems to help some all other tests have come back negative.
Avatar m tn When the pain went away after a while, the doctor said it was probably just IBS or a virus in my intestine that had passed. I have felt fine since November, and suddenly a couple days ago the pain came back again. I didn't panic, figuring it was IBS or a virus again. Since then, yesterday morning I woke up with pain in my neck. At first I figured they were unrelated and thought I just slept the wrong way on my neck. I was okay through most of the day and the abdominal pain subsided.
Avatar m tn Which, incidentally, stopped when I stopped taking the aciphex. Shortly after taking the aciphex I started experiencing symptoms of GERD. I still have the GERD to this day - some days its worse than others. I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?
Avatar m tn m guessing that you have been through trials of Aciphex, etc.? Do you still have your gallbladder? What medicine seems to help at all? The scary thing is that "stomach" pain can be referred pain from a different area and lots of people, esp. women are treated like they are simply depressed once an obvious answer is not found. Based on your tests, have they given you any guesses as to what it could be or are they simply saying it is all in your head?
Avatar n tn Fom 9/8/2008 through 10/10/08, was taking only 20 mg of Aciphex but was taking so many other medications since doctor diagnosed IBS that I couldn't tell which one was causing the problem. After endoscopy on 10/17/08 and duodonal ulcers found, all other medication was stopped which is how I identified Aciphex was causing major problem.
Avatar f tn pylori bacteria in the digestive tract. The irony is, if you have ulcers and take Aciphex alone, the Aciphex could make the symptoms worse. Clearly something changed after taking the antibiotics, and now your ally in heartburn control has become your enemy. It might be worth getting back to your physician on this one, since antibiotics can often be a "swinging door", killing some bacteria while making it easier for other bacteria to get through that otherwise wouldn't have.
Avatar n tn Since then I am taking Acid suppressants such as Nexium and Aciphex as prescribed by my doctor. I also underwent Endoscopy and Biopsy, Abdominal Ultrasound, X-Ray and Blood test . All the tests came normal except they found H-Pilory infection and I took antibiotics and subsequent Stool test for H-Pilory showed negative. I am still having all the above discomforts which is going on for 5 months. I normally eat very healthy and I am following a strict diet since this problem started.
Avatar n tn Has anyone tried Zegerid? So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me. I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?).
198506 tn?1251156915 I was diagnosed with silent reflux on 2/6/08 and prescribed Aciphex. The ENT diagnosed the reflux through an endoscopy I think it's called...he threaded a fiber optic camera through my nostril and down my throat. He said my throat was swollen and red and that I had vocal cord nodules. I had no symptoms of GERD and went to the ENT because I had a near constant feeling of throat contriction. A previous Barrium swallow showed no GERD.

Avatar m tn told no I am not fine, one area no concern, other area metaplasia, was I still taking the Aciphex. I have gone back on the Aciphex but am terrified after reading on websites that I did the wrong thing. Endoscopy only done originally because I had still unexplained/diagnosis following three days of diarrhea, cramping, dehydration. On antibiotiic, H pylori ruled out. History of GERD, hiatal hernia. Control symptoms with diet, OTC Gaviscon.
Avatar m tn I had to talk to a friend who said that I might have IBS. I have a normal bowel movement every morning and it seems fine, but this burning pain started out in the morning and now I have it all day and I'm starting to feel it in my back. My PCP told me my GI doctor should of given me something to ease the pain. I asked him for something and he said , call the GI doctor. He just said, your fine. If I am fine I would be having these pains. Does anyone know what I can take for IBS ?
Avatar n tn I have been on Aciphex 20 since 2007, with instant results. After changing Health Ins. , I am told by the current insurer that they won't cover Aciphex. I must go thru a step program, starting with Nexium, which my Doctor dosed at 40 mg instead of 20 mg, saying Nexium didn't come in 20 and the 40mg of Nexium is comparable to the 20 mg Aciphex . Questions: (1) Is the above true? (2) Are the side effects the same, and (3) What's the difference between the two.
Avatar f tn I've taken Aciphex for over 10 years for extreme GERD. Since all the new studues came out about it being so bad long term, I decided to try and get off it. I'm down from 20mg a day to 20mg every 3-4 days. I've weaned over the last 2 months, had horrible rebound and can't get passed this stage. I have bad stomach pains, diarrhea, nausea. I'm supplementing with Tums currently. Any helpful advice is appreciated. I'm ready to give up.
Avatar f tn I have for the past 10 years been on Aciphex 20mg for to much acid in my stomache, I was at 4 times the normal amount but now I have about 7 times to normal amount I have been taking 2 aciphex pills in the am and 1 in the evening. When I had my last scope I also had alot of irritation and alot of stomache polyps. I have latlely been having alot of diarreha about 2 hours after I eat and I'm generally not feeling well.
Avatar f tn I take Aciphex, one 20 mg pill once a day. It mostly works for my GERD - without it it is unbearable. The problem I have is the terrible side effects. They are all gastrointestinal. I am miserable all the time. I feel like my food takes FOREVER to digest and move through my system! I feel like when I eat the food just "sits" there for such a long time. I feel constipated, but can "go" most days, though not completely.
Avatar n tn phenergan (only thing that helps but knocks me out), Zofran, and Tigan. The longest time I have feltAlso, I have tried Hyomax which didn't seem to help much. I have been told that I am likely experiencing some kind of postinfectious IBS/dyspepsia which will gradually fade out over six months. I would very much like to believe this. Anyone else with postinfectious digestive problems experienced relief? It certainly feels like something is very wrong with me.
