Aciphex is great! I used it for my ulcer. It made a big difference immediately. I hope it works as well for you.
I need to take Prosilec for ulcer-related pain, but I've read that ulcer meds like Prosilec reduce the effects of thyroxine. Has anyone had any experience with this? I take 100 mcg daily. How much extra might I need to take?
On 11-15-06 I had laproscopic Nissan Fundoplication to correct chronic bronchitis & hiatal hernia. I had seen pictures over 20 years showing a hiatal hernia. On day of surgery, dr said I did not have hernia. Where had it gone? 2 days later had severe chronic bronchitis and cough. Went to ENT for 6 weeks. In 1-07 had two major "flu" and missed work. In 27 years, first time I missed work from "flu".

Prilosec and any of the other PPI's like Nexium, Prevacid, Protonix, Aciphex, etc -- are routinely prescribed by liver specialists for GERD (chronic heartburn). I was on Nexium for much of treatment.
Also, the other day, I had something caught in my throat and I was coughing a lot and the pain started. I'm already on Aciphex for reflux. I'm going to see my gastroenterologist in 3 weeks for my other "issues" but I don't know what I should be doing in the meantime. Any ideas?? Thanks so much!
It manifested itself one evening after I had overeaten at dinner as a sharp pain in my left side and some regurgitation. Prior to that, I had the occasional heartburn but nothing too serious. I was put on Prevacid for 30 days but the side effects (diarrhea, some cramping) were worse than the symptoms and so my prescription was not renewed and it was suggested that I use over-the-counter medications and try and cut down on my stress level.
Went to the ER and they did some blood tests and US and everything looked fine- Gallbladder, pancreas and liver. They diagnosed me with a peptic ulcer and sent me to see a Gastreonologist. He wanted to do an endoscopy but with no insurance he put be on aciphex and said if I had an ulcer I would feel better on this med in a few days. Started to feel much better, not sure if it was a placebo effect, and then missed a few doses and am right where I started.
Hi, Ulcer in the stomach commonly occurs due to H.pylori infection or NSAID (painkiller) intake. Test for H.pylori and if found positive then you need antibiotics to treat it. Avoid NSAIDs like Ibuprofen.
Have had back pain for a year, that I think is now related to my stomach problems. Dr. put me on Aciphex and that has FINALLY helped the back pain. Now feel that gnawing feeling all the time in my stomach. Keep us posted on what your Dr. finds! Good Luck!
Yea, doctors are too quick to say your "too young" for this and that...my grandfather had surgery on his ulcer when he was 19.. and my mother passed away at age 22 (I was 3) from her ulcer that bursted..the doctors kept telling her she was too young too. ALWAYS GET 2ND OPINIONS ON EVERYTHING....
I had something similiar when i was really stressed out , they did a whole bunch of tests on me , i had heartburn , and felt like i constantly had to swallow and felt nauseated for months , they did an upper gi to see if i had an ulcer and i went on aciphex , a medicine for reflux . I would go to the dr. and see what kind of testing they can do .
(2)i had to modify my diet during each course of treatment, which have included zantac, losec all types of antigas and antacids.(3)I only had to take the treatment for 4-6 weeks.(4)OH i have had peptic ulcer, gastro this gastro that you name it, included the dreaded ACID REFLUX. Hi! My daughter is a 19 year old college sophmore. Family doc diagnosed her with a "possible" ulcer and put her on Carafate & Prevacid. (4/01) 3 weeks later, doc switched meds to Aciphex. She experienced very bad reflux with that med..doc said time for an EGD..I took her to GI doc in nearby bigger town..they tried more meds..he did the EGD with small intestine biopsies, negative for everything..no ulcers, gastritis, hernias, etc..
An upper GI endoscopy may be done for confirmation. He needs to take omeprazole twice daily for 8 weeks. If it is not effective he can switch to other PPI like protonix, prevacid, aciphex or nexium.

Dear Glenda, Raising the head of your bed may help because regurgitated gastric contents must now flow uphill to reach the esophagus. If, however, you have substantial daytime reflux, then the benefit may not be that great. Ifd you are reluctant to raise the head of your bed, you could purchase a wedge that would raise only your side . This item is available in many pharmacies.
My Gastentrologist prescribed nexium, Aciphex, Prilosec and all kinds of anti acids but to no avail. I still have the same problem and nothing has changed yet. Any suggestions of how to stop the acid from forming. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I am in so much pain.
she has to take aspirin.. that is backwards for most.. so I will find out tomorrow mostly because maybe takign my AcipHex again will help with that.. (may have had a miscarriage) so this way I can get GI doc to check to see if I am still prego and if not.. will start taking the AcipHex again... thanks for all your help.. I think you are right on about the ulcer..
The only meds I take are Pre-natal vitamins (not all the time) as I've been tring to get pregnant. My PCP has put me on aciphex as his hunch is epigatric ulcer or just acid. I still feel like the pain is outside the food pat because it doesn't matter what or if I eat, the pain just comes on. Movement also doesn't seem to matter. I can be sitting, lying, walking, whatever...and it may start cramping to the point that I have to just hold still for the 20-30 seconds and let it pass.
2 weeks ago had sudden nausea (never vomited) just nausea. It was intermittent. I have a history of GERD due to an ulcer 14 years ago...Been on prilosec, nexium aciphex, etc., ever since. My GP ordered an upper GI. All normal except MASSIVE GERD. He doubled my nexium to 2 a day. Also had a chest xray which was normal. He ordered abdominal blood work - all normal (gall bladder, liver, pancreas, etc) Still couldn't shake the intermittent nausea....
your stool color may be the result of Prevacid as well as the diarrhea. I'm taking Nexium and my stool color is sort of orangy. I don't have diarrhea but I do have cramping. I would wait a week as suggested. I've been taking Nexium for almost two weeks now, twice a day, 40mg each and I still have burning in my chest, regardless of what I eat.

Do I need a different med - like Nexium or aciphex? I was told it may take a few months for these to work, but I'm getting horribly depressed and scared something is terribly wrong. Any insite would be helpful.
Now I fill worst than before and was retested for H-Pylori and was positive. I had a upper GI and showed no ulcer but did have gastritis. I have been given the PYLERA Pac.Tetracycline, metronidazole, and bismuth subcitrate along with aciphex. I have lost weight because of the nausea and have not started the meds for the side effects. Do you think the h-pylori should be treated again and since I already had the tetracycline the first time shouldn't I have been given something else?
its not like water ( sorry ) but it is loose.. any ideas to what I can do to help this situation .. I am on aciphex for my reflux and have been for about 4 yrs now.. also I am taking hyocylamine a tablet that disolves on my tongue which is supposed to help .. but usually does not ..
Severe reflux...off the charts Bravo survey. Small erosions, not typical, found in the Duodenum on edoscopy, actively bleeding slightly at the time. By not typical I mean he stopped short of calling them ulcers...saying they were "ulcer like" but very small. Doc said he was surprised to see them because I had been on Aciphex, Nexium and most recently Protonix leading up to the scope. (Stopped them a week before the scope though). Biopsy negative for cancer and H.Pylori.
Recently, after some very stressful situations and some rather excessive use of Ibuprophen for occipital neuralgia, symptoms of gastritis/ulcer have developed. I was wondering if it is possible to develop these symptoms while already on a PPI. I have an appt. with a GI in about 3 weeks. My GP just switched my meds. to Prevacid. I am concerned the development of new symptoms while on a PPI could signify serious disease.
For the past 3 years, I have been treated for acid reflux disease. My symptoms are anxiety, gas running through my intestines, diarrhea and pain in my abdoman. I have had a stomach ulcer and duodinitis. I also have a hiatal hernia. The pain in my abdoman has been better since I have been put on Aciphex, but I still have diarrhea every day and when I have an anxiety attack the gas and cramping in my intestines gets really bad. I have been given .5 xanax to take prn to help with anxiety.
