Avatar f tn I went to a surgeon who specializes in repairing hiatal hernias for another opinion. He told me that he believes my GERD is caused by hiatal hernia and I should get surgery to fix it. He said the upper GI series isn’t always accurate because you’re lying down during it so the severity of hiatal hernias isn’t always detected. Is this true? Is it possible hiatal hernias can be seen on endoscopy, then not seen on upper GI series? I’m very confused.
Avatar m tn I have had this in the past and I was told it was bcuz I was holding my stomach muscles tight and I have a hiatal hernia.....I was told to avoid tight clothes such as jeans ect...as that triggers the problems. I had an exercise regime and I would do special breathing and hold my stomach tight...and I had the same experience as u.' Since I have modified my diet and lifestyle...I hope to soon be able to try the exercises again, but not sure of the out come.....
Avatar f tn I am unable to take Bentyl or Levsin as previously it irritated the hiatal hernia and caused more stomach upset. I did try Ultram and that had no effect. These constant abdominal cramps are severely limiting my lifestyle. I think maybe if I could control the abdominal cramping, I could then attempting decreasing the Klonopin and eliminating the Lortab. Any suggestions or relating your experience with Xiafaxan would be helpful. Thank you.

Avatar f tn How long ago was it when you had the endoscopy? What medicines have you tried and what made it worse? Are you having issues with acid reflux? It seemed liked my symptoms got worse while I was taking Prilosec, Prevacid, and especially on Nexium. While on Nexium I was getting chest pain from just drinking water. My doctor thought that I had a hiatal hernia, based on just my symptoms, but the upper endoscopy didn't show one.
Avatar f tn For over four weeks now, I have been having almost constant nausea. It's an odd feeling because it's in my stomach, but I can also feel it in my chest and throat. If I cough, my gag reflex goes crazy. I've only thrown up twice, and both times it was from coughing. When I first eat, I feel good for a while, but then the feeling comes again. About 3 1/2 years ago, I was having problems with anemia (from heavy menstrual flow due to fibroids) and acid reflux.
Avatar f tn in Arizona Aciphex should be working. My wife has been taking Aciphex for 1yr and a half and it was not doing anything for her, if anything her condition was getting worse. So thats when we went to the hospital and they ran all the exams on my wife, and we are back to square one once again where no one can tell us what's wrong.
Avatar n tn Described symptoms are definitevely GERD. Now, the bitter taste in the mouth suggests gallbladder disorder with biliary reflux. If the gallblader itself is OK, it still may be biliary ducts (biliary dyskinesia or sphincter of Oddi dysfunction). There are gross differences in diagnosis of stomach condition. Hiatal hernia may come and go, as hernia can slips up and down, so " now you can see it now you don't".
Avatar m tn t shake the intermittent nausea....Had an endoscopy - showed gerd, slight irritation of esophagus, small hiatal hernia and stomach blisters and nodules which were removed and benign. Gastro changed me to aciphex once a day and reglan at night. This was 4 days ago....eating a little better but still have some bouts with nausea....will it take time for the new meds to work? Or could something else be going on to cause this....
Avatar m tn I am providing you a list of medications, in three groups, a mix and match from two groups could be tried to see what suits you most. The list is for GERD and holds good for hiatal hernia and Barret’s esophagus too. “Common antacids include * Alka-Seltzer * Maalox * Mylanta * Pepto-Bismol * Riopan * Rolaids Other drugs used to relieve GERD symptoms are anti-secretory drugs such as H2 blockers and proton pump inhibitors.
Avatar f tn This is a question for all hiatal hernia sufferers. What symptoms do you have with your hiatal hernia? Has anyone experienced "heart attack" symptoms but have no known cardiac problems? I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia last July after more than a year of chest pains, pain in my left shoulder, left arm and back.
Avatar m tn History of GERD, hiatal hernia. Control symptoms with diet, OTC Gaviscon. I wish gastroenterologist Physicians Assistant had told me what the inflammation was, reason for Aciphex. Nothing I can do now - - I should have ASKED if o.k. to discontinue. Can you give me facts about what I have done with discontinuing. I am truly scared. appointment for endoscopy Aug. 6th, consult on July 23rd. thank you.
Avatar f tn she has to take aspirin.. that is backwards for most.. so I will find out tomorrow mostly because maybe takign my AcipHex again will help with that.. (may have had a miscarriage) so this way I can get GI doc to check to see if I am still prego and if not.. will start taking the AcipHex again... thanks for all your help.. I think you are right on about the ulcer..
Avatar m tn I am 21 and do not want to feel like this or take pills for my entire adult life, so I want to opt for surgery if the hernia is indeed the culprit, but they don't recommend it and would rather have me become a life-long antacid customer, something I don't plan on embarking on. I find it extremely hard to believe that I could go from having an iron gut to developing GERD in an acute, sudden, and instant fashion, merely after trying some new liquor.
341655 tn?1240368839 Yes. The surgery for a hiatal hernia is the Nissen Fundaplication, where a portion of the fundus is wrapped around the esophagus in the area of the lower esophageal sphincter. As for the type, 90% of all hiatal hernias are sliding hernias, not paraesophageal, so it's probably a sliding hiatal hernia that you have.
Avatar f tn You should have had a upper GI Barium Swallow to see if there is a hiatal hernia. However, I had this and it showed not hernia. When I had surgery for the funoplication wrap for my valve they discovered a hiatal hernia so bad that my valve and stomach were in my upper chest cavity. With a hiatal hernia it can cause breathing problems so bad that I got panic attacks with them. Also, it might be your asphogus is raw.
Avatar f tn Hiatal hernia (tried Protonix, but causes increased diarrhea) GERD (esophageal erosions, not Barrett's) Inflammed GB (removed Sept. 2007) Vasovagal syncope My questions: Could my pains on my left side be related to my hiatal hernia/GERD? Is the vasovagal syncope related to my hiatal hernia? The fact that all cardiac workup is negative can I r/o my heart? Is there any other routes I should look into to figure out the cause of my problems? Thank you very much for your time.
Avatar n tn I have had the same thing for about 2 years. I've had alot of clear mucus and it feels like it just hangs in the back of my throat. Much of the time it is like it is there and you can't get it up and you can't get it down. The ENT doc said that the clear mucus is acid reflux caused by my hiatal hernia.
Avatar n tn ve noticed that so many people with chest and/or abdominal pain end up with a gastro diagnosis. Because you have GERD and a small hiatal hernia, I think it would be helpful to touch base with a gastroenterologist to see if there are any changes.
Avatar n tn Now on zoloft and aciphex for Gerd. It has helped alot (the aciphex) but I still get those pains and when I do it just sends me over the edge. Dr says my lungs are clear.
1253246 tn?1332073310 You probably do not have acid reflux if you have hiatal hernia-even a small one. And this would be enough to cause your symptoms. It is the obstruction of the lower esophageal valve into the stomach that is causing all your problems. Just look up" hiatal hernia self massage video" and that should help you with this. For further help to eliminate the hiatal hernia you can see a Chiropractor who is familiar with this. No need for surgery or medications!
Avatar m tn Test results for h-pilori still out, but she was treated for this previously. She has been on aciphex for two years for GERD. She has a hiatal hernia, and her esophagus is somewhat twisted, which may be causing some swallowing difficulties. But nothing which would cry out that 'this is causing the pain'. Anywhere more specific to look?
Avatar f tn I am a 48 year old woman who was diagnosed with GERD two or three years ago via endoscopy. I was placed on Aciphex. I have not been good about following directions for acid reflux (I am a heavy coffee drinker and beer drinker) and have not religiously taken the medication. About a month ago I begin having the lump in my throat back (that's what made me go to doc in first place) and difficulty swallowing.
Avatar f tn I would be very skeptical about their ability to help a hiatal hernia. Chiroprators manipulate joints. A hiatal hernia is soft tissue and I wouldn't want one messing around there. Some other option you may want to try - probiotics, digestive, enzymes, and carrot juice. My compounding pharmacist also recommends taking acid to aid digestion. The reasoning makes sense to me, but it is rather expensive. Let me know if you would like more information on that.
Avatar m tn Very glad I did have the procedure because it gave him the chance to look for varices and abnormalities while trying to diagnose the source of my stomach pain. Turned out I have a Hiatal Hernia with esophegeal inflammation and prescribed Nexium everyday. Riba has aggravated my condition but Nexium keeps it in check.
