Aciphex for gerd

Common Questions and Answers about Aciphex for gerd

aciphex

Avatar m tn Which, incidentally, stopped when I stopped taking the aciphex. Shortly after taking the aciphex I started experiencing symptoms of GERD. I still have the GERD to this day - some days its worse than others. I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?
198506 tn?1251156915 Do you think this may be a side effect of the Aciphex? Thank you in advance for any insight you could provide.
Avatar f tn My husband was originally on Aciphex, but placed on Nexium after our insurance stopped covering aciphex and he was miserable. Aciphex has always worked so much better for him. Finally, after a year of misery he's back on aciphex and so much happier. I hope it works as well for you.
Avatar f tn You can ask the doctor if he (or the one who diagnosed you with GERD), knows, what is actual reason for your GERD - is it an anatomical change in your stomach/esophagus, or is it due to increased acid secretion (or both). Anatomical changes may be treated with surgery. Acid hypersecretion is treated with H2 blockers (Ranital..) or with antacids (Tums).
Avatar m tn I was dx a few months back. Take advair twice a day (was taking singulair too, but it gave me a headache) & take aciphex daily for gerd. the aciphex has helped w/ the coughing some, but i still cough a good bit...sometimes to the point of dizziness. If I laugh, I cough. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Two or three years ago I was diagnosed with GERD via an endoscopy. I was put on Aciphex. I am also a heavy drinker. I have not taken the Aciphex on a regular basis because up until a month or so ago I have not had any symptoms. I am now having difficulty swallowing or at least feel like I have a lump in my throat - the constant clearing of throat, cough. I am now terrified that I have Barretts or cancer.

1717741 tn?1310779105 Hello Ghars, I too have GERD and Barretts Esoughagus and Asthma. You may need to get on daily meds for the GERD (Prilosec, Aciphex, etc.) and a daily inhaled steroid like Symbicort. Talk to your Dr.
Avatar m tn I have had GERD for years. I went from Aciphex to Protonix and now Nexium. I have recently had a B-12 count toward the low level (but still in normal range) and am concerned that this is because of the medication. I also heard that the medication can cause stomach cancer. Is using the medication for so long safe? Is there a timframe for which it should be stopped? Also, I recently heard about Kapidex.
Avatar f tn Aciphex is a fine choice for a proton pump inhibitor to treat the GERD. If the symptoms continue, you may want to consider a 24-hr pH study to quantify the severity of the disease. Sometimes adding an H2-blocker like Pepsid or Zantac can help. If GERD continues to be present, and the symptoms refractory, you can consider surgical treatments like a fundoplication. Otherwise, other disease can be considered, including delayed gastric emptying, and evaluated by a gastric emptying scan.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with mild esophagitis caused by GERD. I was put on Aciphex. I was also diagnosed with hiatal hernia during endoscopy. I already knew I had one because an upper GI series 6 years ago detected it. Even so, the doctor who performed the endoscopy, sent me to get another more current upper GI series. The results came back “no obvious hiatal hernia”, even though the endoscopy showed one and the upper GI series from 6 years ago did too.
Avatar n tn Fast forward another 4 years to this past week and I was trying to see what would happen if I laid off my Aciphex since I suspected it was causing dizziness for me. I was off it for about 7 days (on Zantac) and I went out and did some yard work all morning. I come inside when I'm done and eat a granola bar and drink some water and about 20 minutes later I'm bending down to take off my shoes and BAM...the palpitations kick in and my heart is pounding super hard and super fast.
Avatar f tn I've taken Aciphex for over 10 years for extreme GERD. Since all the new studues came out about it being so bad long term, I decided to try and get off it. I'm down from 20mg a day to 20mg every 3-4 days. I've weaned over the last 2 months, had horrible rebound and can't get passed this stage. I have bad stomach pains, diarrhea, nausea. I'm supplementing with Tums currently. Any helpful advice is appreciated. I'm ready to give up.
1744042 tn?1311261168 MyThyroid -GERD Story.....I felt like I was choking. having hard time swallowing , and coughing alot when I went to bed. Had ultrasound which revealed small cysts and nodules, PC Dr. sent me to Endo,He is watching cysts and nodules closely. Endo sent me to ENT. ENT told me I had a VERY BAD case of Acid Reflux. Put me on omeprazole(sp) for 2 months . It didn't touch problem.he said I had GERD and EE , then Rx Dexilant for 1 month.
296025 tn?1233256719 Prevacid is a Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI) like Aciphex, Nexium and Prilosec. It's indicated for GERD (chronic acid reflux) and as far as I know has nothing to do with treating Hep C, other than if you happen to have GERD. I believe Prilosec is a generic sold OTC but not 100% sure so speak to your doctor and pharmacist regarding switching off.
Avatar f tn Both said they did not believe there was a correlation to the hearburn and resection. The GI doctor put me on Aciphex for 6 days which did not work and put me on Nexium 40 mg twice daily yesterday which does not seem to be working either as I have to take rolaids about 5 hours after taking the Nexium. Can you tell me: 1. Have you ever heard of hearburn/GERD starting after a bowel resection 2.
Avatar n tn Now on zoloft and aciphex for Gerd. It has helped alot (the aciphex) but I still get those pains and when I do it just sends me over the edge. Dr says my lungs are clear.
Avatar m tn If a patient reported symptoms you are describing I would consider the diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR). It is not uncommon for patients with GERD to also have LPR. An ENT physican or speech pathologist can perform rhinolaryngoscopy (similar to an endoscopy, but fiber optic camera evaluates nose, throat. Patients with LPT may have vocal cord edema (swelling) and other characteristic changes.
Avatar m tn I was then getting a lot of allergies and post nasal and was then coughing. Doctor prescribed Prednisone,Zithromax, Acyclovir [for cold sores] and Clindamycin cap 300 mg for sinus infection. Just lately I got acid reflux.... hard to swallow... even when I did it was bad... slight burning to severe burning feeling on the left hand side of my mid upper chest area. I went back again to see the doctor who told me the coughing, wheezing [which now both had stopped...
Avatar m tn i have increased belching and gurgling stomach (especially when i first wake up) for about 5 months and lots of undigested vegetables in my stool (this symptom ive had for years). Ive lost about 15 lbs during this time. I was on aciphex for years because of gerd but was switched to dexilant for gastritis. Ive recently stopped taking the dexilant and am trying bentyl 4x a day but so far no changes. i am very regular with my bowel movements (once a day) so i dont see how it could be ibs.
Avatar f tn I have been belching almost nonstop for nearly two months and also have substernal pain which my doctor has diagnosed as GERD and started me on Aciphex. Unfortunately, the Aciphex does not seem to help at all and I have been taking antacids without much relief either. I have noticed on this forum that an H.pylori test might be indicated and I am going to suggest that to my doctor.
Avatar f tn Even though medicines like nexium, prilosec, prevacid, protonix, aciphex, and dexilant are all very similar, sometimes you need to try many of them before you find one that works well for you. The nausea could be caused by the GERD. Are you on a GERD-friendly diet? Have you tried raising the head of your bed?
Avatar n tn when I was first diagnosed with Barretts I was taking aciphex. Two years later when I went for a re-check endoscopy the gastrointerologist suggested that I go on nexium. He said he thought it worked better than aciphex. Well about 8 weeks into the nexium I was getting great pains, I thought my desease was getting worse. I went back to the Dr. and asked to be put back on the aciphex. I beleive those pains were a side effect of the nexium.
Avatar m tn I wish gastroenterologist Physicians Assistant had told me what the inflammation was, reason for Aciphex. Nothing I can do now - - I should have ASKED if o.k. to discontinue. Can you give me facts about what I have done with discontinuing. I am truly scared. appointment for endoscopy Aug. 6th, consult on July 23rd. thank you.
