5 months ago I started having bloating, heaviness in stomach, nausea and Gas. Since then I am taking Acid suppressants such as Nexium and Aciphex as prescribed by my doctor. I also underwent Endoscopy and Biopsy, Abdominal Ultrasound, X-Ray and Blood test . All the tests came normal except they found H-Pilory infection and I took antibiotics and subsequent Stool test for H-Pilory showed negative. I am still having all the above discomforts which is going on for 5 months.

I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?

They told me it could have been the aciphex that caused it, but they and I were unsure what caused it. I was put on prednisone and given IV benadryl while at the Er. The prednisone caused bad chest spasms that would not let me fall asleep and would wake me in the middle of the night with a horrible adrenaline feeling in my chest. Went to the Er again for this and was given diazepam to sleep. That was all in the first two weeks after the first Er visit.

pylori bacteria in the digestive tract. The irony is, if you have ulcers and take Aciphex alone, the Aciphex could make the symptoms worse. Clearly something changed after taking the antibiotics, and now your ally in heartburn control has become your enemy. It might be worth getting back to your physician on this one, since antibiotics can often be a "swinging door", killing some bacteria while making it easier for other bacteria to get through that otherwise wouldn't have.

I keep thinking i am having heart attacks. Docs are saying GERD and Anxiety issues. I constantly burp and pass gas for hours after meals. I am soo sick of feeling like this everyday. Do you have any other symptoms? Thanks and good luck!

I drank a lot of self made wine for several days (sometimes on empty stomach too) and one day, along with overeating with a lot of grilled and spicy food, I got this strong heartburn and burning sensation along my esophagus and stomach that lasted for three days (20th – 22nd of Jan). I stopped drinking and after that the heart burn was gone except for a strange feeling (like something is stuck in the throat/esophagus).

Are you taking the meds for Pain or for other symtoms like gas, belching, acid reflux. Because I have been taking the PPI for 2 1/2 weeks and I have not seen any change in the pain and not sure if I should continue or not. When you said that Kapidex and other meds worked for a few months what do you mean that they worked? How? By stopping pain or other symtoms? Thanks for you time?

My husband was originally on Aciphex, but placed on Nexium after our insurance stopped covering aciphex and he was miserable. Aciphex has always worked so much better for him. Finally, after a year of misery he's back on aciphex and so much happier. I hope it works as well for you.

take aciphex daily which is very expensive and bentyl 3 times a day for bloating and still can not manage the gas and bloating I also take a lot of gas-X with little help. Milk seems to help some all other tests have come back negative. When I was first diagnosed with IBS/D it was called spastic colon if that makes a difference for those that don't know IBS/C is with constipation IBS/D is with diarrhea.

Weight loss, loose foul smelling pale stools and alot of gas. The gas is so much that I have flatal incontinence. It passes out without my knowledge and this is what has brought my life to a standstill. Tests so far stool culture is OK, colonoscopy is OK, liver is OK, pancreas is OK, ESR is OK, blood sugar is ok, thyroid is OK. But the problem persists. I Don't drink at all and I've quit smoking since this started months ago. What could be my problem.

I have actually been on some form of reflux med for a bit longer than 5yrs and started with Prilosec OTC, then prescription Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and briefly Prevacid. These days I tend to take whatever I have in my medicine cabinet (Aciphex or Prevacid) twice a day, max dosage, and occasionally a tagamet to help out. I have a hiatial hernia that is going to be fixed soon so I am hoping to get off the meds and that the side effects will eventually go away...I hope.

At about 4 months after surgery, I changed statin and antacid medicines to Lipitor (80) and Nexium. Two weeks later, I started experiencing mild aching in the upper chest/esophogus area--a mild form of my heart attack/angina symptoms. I switched back to Aciphex at that time, but remained on Lipitor. At the six month after surgery point, I underwent a stress radionuclide test and another heart catheterization (required by my job). Both tests showed no problems.

I forgot to mention that I have a hiatel hernia and in the past have suffered from GERD, but also take Aciphex 10mg once daily. Thanks for your help.

I was diagnosed with mild esophagitis caused by GERD. I was put on Aciphex. I was also diagnosed with hiatal hernia during endoscopy. I already knew I had one because an upper GI series 6 years ago detected it. Even so, the doctor who performed the endoscopy, sent me to get another more current upper GI series. The results came back “no obvious hiatal hernia”, even though the endoscopy showed one and the upper GI series from 6 years ago did too.

So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me. I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?). Any input will be greatly appreciated.

he threaded a fiber optic camera through my nostril and down my throat. He said my throat was swollen and red and that I had vocal cord nodules. I had no symptoms of GERD and went to the ENT because I had a near constant feeling of throat contriction. A previous Barrium swallow showed no GERD. Now I am having cramp like pain under my left rib cage which is relieved somewhat when I lie on my right side as opposed to my left. And the pain extends to my left flank.

told no I am not fine, one area no concern, other area metaplasia, was I still taking the Aciphex. I have gone back on the Aciphex but am terrified after reading on websites that I did the wrong thing. Endoscopy only done originally because I had still unexplained/diagnosis following three days of diarrhea, cramping, dehydration. On antibiotiic, H pylori ruled out. History of GERD, hiatal hernia. Control symptoms with diet, OTC Gaviscon.

There is nothing they are able to do for me but give me acid reflex pills. I am on Aciphex. And avoid gas causing foods (especially dairy, ice cream beans etc) because it causes the trapped air in my chest. The trapped air causes me to have gas pretty much trapped in my chest and very loud girggling. I also am able to take things like Gas X that sometimes helps when I have trapped air in my chest from something I have ate.

It worked for a while, about 6 months, and now does not work at all. I have been prescribed 2 Aciphex and 2 Zantac tablets a day. This is more medication than what I was taking before the surgery. Has anyone had a similiar experience with this surgery? Does anyone know any other solutions to this problem? I would like to add that I have had my gall bladder removed. This was done prior to the Nissan. I now experience a lot of indigestiion, heart burn, and gas and bloating.

I never had this issue with GERD but we are all different and sometimes how stressed we get can add to what is going on as well....try to relax and take meds as directed and avoid foods that trigger your symptoms, Keep us posted on your progress.

I have been having pains in my upper left and right side of abdomen but no gas, no bloating, go belching and no acid reflux but I took it anyway to see if it would help with the pains I was having but a week into taking it I started having a lump in my throat kind of feels like my throat is reeally tight. I was just wondering if anyone else had this symtom while or after taking a proton pump inhibitor.

s very little chance of recieving a persciption for the better medications ( I feel that the Nexium worked better than Prilosec, and that Aciphex worked better than both). the greasy, acidic, and overall bad for you foods must be cut out. these foods with irritate existing conditions and/or create new ones if it's GERD or gastritis. good luck, and i hope everything gets better for you soon.

I jus started taking aciphex and used to takn 2 40mg nexium a day, am I supose to take 4 aciphex a day being they are just 20mg?

t rely on any blood tests which only test for general levels of Cobalamin and not Methylocobalamin and the lab ranges are far too low. Without intending to sound like a conspiracy theorist, PPIs are probably the 2nd highest grossing class of drugs with 10s of billions of dollars in annual sales, to patients, most of whom DO NOT need to take them!

I have for the past 10 years been on Aciphex 20mg for to much acid in my stomache, I was at 4 times the normal amount but now I have about 7 times to normal amount I have been taking 2 aciphex pills in the am and 1 in the evening. When I had my last scope I also had alot of irritation and alot of stomache polyps. I have latlely been having alot of diarreha about 2 hours after I eat and I'm generally not feeling well.

Acid reducers like Zantac, Pepcid and Tagamet as well as PPI proton pump inhibitors like Prevacid Protonix and Aciphex commonly help acid reflux. Valium and other benzodiazepines help anxiety. With respect to diarrhea, dexadrine commonly causes that side effect, and many others do as well.

well I am going to see my GI doc monday.. I have GERD and was taking AcipHex but had to stop when I found out I was pregnant.. so I am hoping it is just severe GERD related to that.. however, my lower back (flank, both sides) )is hurting more this morning, where the kidneys are.??? I am just wondering if the 2 can be related.. took pepto bismol last night and that seemed to help the stomach pain a little, but not completely... thanks for input!

had mylanta and prilosec and the situation got improved.. doctor recommended aciphex and currently i am on that.. situation seems to get better but at times, the condition that I have something stuck in throat and a little difficulty to swallow flares up. Got a sore throat a couple of days back. but now it is better. feeling weak and has muscle pains occasionally.. any ideas? should i expect improvement only after a while? currently i am on the 15th day of taking aciphex...

He recommended I go back on Aciphex or another PPI and to take Benadryl. This seems to make sense. I asked my GI about my hypersalivation problem but he did not know what the cause could be. After the Endoscopy and the H. Pylori visit, the GI doesn't wanted to be bothered. Anyone else have a similar experience?
