Aciphex and antacids

Common Questions and Answers about Aciphex and antacids

aciphex

Avatar n tn t know why the antacids and PPIs only work for a short time and then stop working. At this point, all he can say is that I'll probably "outgrow" it. I'm almost 30, and this is effecting my quality of life, always having to worry about when I can eat and when the pains are going to begin next. Any suggestions?
1289966 tn?1326101570 Diane just asked if Pepsid was the same this is the response: Jmjm had the worst case of GERD out of just about anybody on the forum and he said these are ok - it's the same thing copyman said so I guess it's perfectly fine just stay away from Tums and Mylanta and Maalox and those things! Just don't take Pepsid complete!
Avatar m tn And it was only once then. It just happened so suddenly, I was breathing find and then I lie down and immediately begin experiencing problems. I also have terriible posture and spend 5+ hours a day using the computer, sitting not up straight in a chair, not sure if that has anything to do with it either.
Avatar f tn well I am going to see my GI doc monday.. I have GERD and was taking AcipHex but had to stop when I found out I was pregnant.. so I am hoping it is just severe GERD related to that.. however, my lower back (flank, both sides) )is hurting more this morning, where the kidneys are.??? I am just wondering if the 2 can be related.. took pepto bismol last night and that seemed to help the stomach pain a little, but not completely... thanks for input!
Avatar f tn I have been belching almost nonstop for nearly two months and also have substernal pain which my doctor has diagnosed as GERD and started me on Aciphex. Unfortunately, the Aciphex does not seem to help at all and I have been taking antacids without much relief either. I have noticed on this forum that an H.pylori test might be indicated and I am going to suggest that to my doctor.
Avatar f tn My doc agreed and put me back on Aciphex, iron and other changes. Nothing is working. Looking to the internet for some answers, I've come across persistent nausea and indigestion as an early warning sign of ovarian cancer several times. I have to change gynos because of a change of insurance and can't get in for several weeks. I'm so worried in the meatime that I can't concentrate. The only other symptom I have is slight abdominal pain.
Avatar n tn I will say that since I have been taknig antacids that my episodes are not to bad, but I still do have them and I have been on 3 different pills. aciphex, prilosec, and now im on prevacid. Also when I have an episode, I wake up with my heart beating very slow but very hard, plus my left hand and arm are asleep or it just feels weird.
Avatar m tn I connect a straight line between the taking of aciphex and the development of GERD. Is this a reasonable conclusion? or is there some other more likely explanation?
Avatar f tn pylori bacteria in the digestive tract. The irony is, if you have ulcers and take Aciphex alone, the Aciphex could make the symptoms worse. Clearly something changed after taking the antibiotics, and now your ally in heartburn control has become your enemy. It might be worth getting back to your physician on this one, since antibiotics can often be a "swinging door", killing some bacteria while making it easier for other bacteria to get through that otherwise wouldn't have.
Avatar m tn I have also noticed other symptoms working on me over the past 6months including - finding myself very tired to the point where i engage in day time sleep [this is not something i have ever done], very tight head aches up the left hand side of my head [near the back of my left ear - these can last for days], poor vision and burning feeling to my eyes, very painful neck, minor chest pain, lack of appetite [due to burning sensation in my throat] and tasteless sensation in my mouth.
Avatar n tn I quit PPIs 5 weeks ago. I had taken them for 13 years, every day, sometimes having to double dose for severe symptoms, or add antiacids. I've had gastric ulcers and esophageal spasms as well as gastritis and esophagitis. I don't drink or smoke, and I have gradually gained weight throughout the 13 years.
Avatar m tn ve tried Protonix, Nexium, Prevacid, Aciphex, Zegerid, Prilosec, PepcidAC, Zantanc, and Tagamet. None of these have helped at all aside from giving me gas and bloating. Again, I have never, ever, had a single episode of heartburn in my entire life, save for the night that I drank gin for the first time, it was instant. They can't explain how the hernia could be causing these symptoms if it was so instant.
1916673 tn?1420233270 ll find lots of info about it. Be aware that like most antiemetics and antacids, not all meds work on all dogs, so once you have found something that works its worth sticking with it. Zofran tends to be reasonably priced, so it may be worth giving it a try from that point of view.
Avatar f tn Also I've been taking it since early second trimester and im now due in less than two weeks and still take it when I need it
Avatar n tn I had my gallbladder removed and take antacids all the time, I would also like to know about this.
547181 tn?1255146506 From what my hepatologist told me was that nexium and prevacid were Proton pump inhibitors and not the same as over the counter antacids which should be taken at least two hours before the Riba.
Avatar f tn My husband was originally on Aciphex, but placed on Nexium after our insurance stopped covering aciphex and he was miserable. Aciphex has always worked so much better for him. Finally, after a year of misery he's back on aciphex and so much happier. I hope it works as well for you.
Avatar f tn Do you ever take antacids besides these 2 occasions when you got diarrhea? Because antacids can cause diarrhea and if you are having loose stools and you are asleep, it can leak.
545538 tn?1295992017 I tried everything because I had constant hearburn uner treatments. The miracle for me.... Aciphex. I't's a prescription drug. Even Nexium, the purple wonder pill, didn't work. On my next and hopefully final treatment.... Aciphex. ask your doctor..
Avatar m tn People who get heartburn after eating may take both antacids and H2 blockers. The antacids work first to neutralize the acid in the stomach, and then the H2 blockers act on acid production. By the time the antacid stops working, the H2 blocker will have stopped acid production. Your health care provider is the best source of information about how to use medications for GERD.
Avatar n tn I have actually been on some form of reflux med for a bit longer than 5yrs and started with Prilosec OTC, then prescription Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and briefly Prevacid. These days I tend to take whatever I have in my medicine cabinet (Aciphex or Prevacid) twice a day, max dosage, and occasionally a tagamet to help out. I have a hiatial hernia that is going to be fixed soon so I am hoping to get off the meds and that the side effects will eventually go away...I hope.
Avatar n tn the cramps were so bad (curling up in my bed bad) that i never went back to aciphex and have been on prescription Zantac, or ranitidine, for about 2 years. each pill is twice the dosage of the OTC 150mg pill. i take 2 a day and Still have discomfort every once in a while. i was also prescribed a flovent inhaler for which i take 2 puffs twice a day and swallow the medication instead of inhaling it and i take 1 singulair before bed.
Avatar n tn Since then I am taking Acid suppressants such as Nexium and Aciphex as prescribed by my doctor. I also underwent Endoscopy and Biopsy, Abdominal Ultrasound, X-Ray and Blood test . All the tests came normal except they found H-Pilory infection and I took antibiotics and subsequent Stool test for H-Pilory showed negative. I am still having all the above discomforts which is going on for 5 months. I normally eat very healthy and I am following a strict diet since this problem started.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with mild esophagitis caused by GERD. I was put on Aciphex. I was also diagnosed with hiatal hernia during endoscopy. I already knew I had one because an upper GI series 6 years ago detected it. Even so, the doctor who performed the endoscopy, sent me to get another more current upper GI series. The results came back “no obvious hiatal hernia”, even though the endoscopy showed one and the upper GI series from 6 years ago did too.
Avatar n tn So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me. I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?). Any input will be greatly appreciated.
