Common Questions and Answers about Accutane years after

accutane

Avatar m tn Hello, The use of Accutane in pediatric patients less than 12 years of age has not been studied. So accutane is mostly prescribed for patients who are older than 18 years as it is not without side effects. Antibiotics are the hallmark of treatment for acne and you should adhere to them after a dermatologist’s prescription. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn (1) Is it smart to start using retin a micro so soon after accutane? My dermatologist prescribed it over the phone and I have not seem him for 1.5 months. (2) Is a second course of accutane likely to do any good? I am amazed how quickly the acne returned. It didn't even work throughout the entire course. I don't obsess about acne but it does put a damper on my personal and professional life. I usually cope with it well, but occasionally it really gets me down.
Avatar f tn My acne just got worse so i was put on accutane for 2 months and it cleared my skin. By that time i was 17 years old . After two months i started getting pimples again . So for a month and a half i had antibiotics again but they were completely not responsive. My acne got worse than ever before. I did not have systic acne but it was pretty bad . I had big red stubborn pimples all over my cheeks . At 17 and a half i was put on accutane again and the course lasted for six months .
Avatar n tn You may be prescribed another course of Accutane, or a different oral or topical treatment, sooner than a year after Accutane failure/relapse. You must wait at least 8 weeks between courses of Accutane. Accutane results in failure or relapse when: i)The patient has not taken Accutane at a high enough dose, or not taken it for long enough. The recommended dose is 0.5 to 1mg X kg patients bodyweight per day for 16 to 24 weeks.
Avatar m tn weight loss ( I was up to 160 right before accutane, lost 20-25 pounds in less than 2 months right after I stopped accutane, and am down to 120 currently) I feel like I have no muscle or fat on me. I'm always hungry but I can't gain a pound.
Avatar f tn Is there a consensus among dermatologists regarding the wait time for getting elective surgery after completing a course of Accutane? Is there a blood test that can be done at the six month mark to ensure the Accutane is completely out of my system so I can proceed with the surgery without waiting a full year? Twelve months seems a bit excessive to me and I'm curious as to where this 12-month recommendation is coming from since the official iPledge booklet says "at least 6 months.
Avatar n tn I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.
Avatar n tn My 17 year old daughter developed fibroadenoma one month after starting accutane. She is still on accutane. Should I wait till she is off the accutane to have the surgery?
Avatar n tn Dear Dr Rockoff, I'm looking for some advice/reassurance. I have been off accutane for a little over a year, during which time I have had at most one zit at any one time which would disappear relatively quickly. In the last few days, however, I have had two zits appear simultaneously, and I'm slightly worried. I've been using benzoyl peroxide religiously for the past several months, so now I'm questioning whether the positive effect of the accutane may be over.
Avatar n tn I was told to continue using 2 types of contracption 1 month after stopping taking accutane. I know it is over a year since I stopped taking accutane but am worried because I know the affects can be very bad for the baby. Do you have any information on this and do you think my baby will be ok? I am only 1 month pregnant.
Avatar n tn My 15 yo daughter stopped taking accutane after severe migraines and light sensitivity at school. The migraines have not stopped since being off accutane and she now is chronically having migraines that wont go away. I am convinced that Accutane has caused this.
Avatar n tn I took Accutane when I was 16, about 6 years ago, and almost immediately after I finished my course I developed severe joint pain and swelling. I saw a rheumatologist and was diagnosed with lupus, and joint pain is one of the symptoms I deal with to this day. I'm 100% positive that the Accutane, being such a powerful drug, triggered the lupus.
Avatar n tn Anyone here get their Crohn's after taking Accutane for acne ? Apparently an association has been found and some lawsuits are being successful. I got my first symptoms about two months after finishing the drug cycle. Just curious if anyone else experienced this with Accutane ?
Avatar m tn ve just been recently prescribed by my dermatologist Isotretinoin (accutane) and am on my 4th day of treatment. After doing extensive research on how accutane affects growth, it really concerns me as I'm currently only 16 years and 8 months old and hence am still in the growing stage of my life. My dermatologist however has prescribed me a very low dosage of 10mg per day for 7 consecutive days, after which would be switching onto a 30mg PER WEEK dose.
Avatar n tn Is it safe for me to me to get pregnant after being on Temozolomide and Accutane for two years? How long should I wait? I have heard that there a strong chance of the tumor recurring if I ever become pregnant due to the increase of hormones during pregnancy!! This is all very scary for me!! All I want to do is be normal again. Any information or suggestions would be so helpful! Thank-you.
Avatar n tn I took accutane when I was 15 years old. It worked great and quickly cleared up my acne. Unfortunetly, I developed a keloid scar on my chest and a few on my shoulders from breakouts that did heal correctly. Keloids do not seem to run in my family, and I have always healed normally so I attribute my keloids to Accutane.
Avatar n tn As usual, the antibiotics and retin-a did not do anything to treat my acne problems, so I have begun a new course of Accutane. Immediately after staring the Accutane, I noticed the tiny bumps under my eyes were lessening. After a month they were completely gone. Now, my dermatologist is second guessing her diagnosis of syringoma for she does not think they would go away so quickly with the Accutane. She now thinks they were just cysts. What do you think?
Avatar n tn I took accutane when I was 18 and again when I was 19. The second time around I developed such severe joint pain that I could not get out of bed. Over ten years later I still am in the same pain. I have been to several doctors...no one can tell me what the cause is or how to stop it. I have been on so many meds over the years trying to help the pain that I couldn't even name them all. All I know is that it all started with accutane use.
Avatar m tn Did your dad take Accutane before you were born or was it after? Please let me know. Thank you.
Avatar n tn None of them even matter to me as much as the two I heard relating to birth defects YEARS after the mother had taken ACCUTANE. I have read tons about NOT getting pregnant while on the medicine, that I understand. However having children is my soul purpose in life and I will absolutely not go on this drug if it will cause birth defects AFTER being off it. Please offer me some insight before I make a mistake....
Avatar f tn I know this is an old post but can you tell me if the problem is solved for you now, and how? I'm feeling exact same way 3 years after being on accutane. I have gone to my doctors so many times and he can't find what is wrong with me, and has absolutely no idea about the side effects of accutane. I'm 22 and it feels like I'm 60 years in my body. This is so bad..
Avatar m tn Have had melasma for the past couple of years. Just started accutane 40 mg and wondering if there's anything I can use to help treat a stubborn spot on my forehead. Seems like its getting darker since I have started the pills. Already use a physical spf50 cream everyday. Any suggestions?
