Accutane with antibiotics

Common Questions and Answers about Accutane with antibiotics

accutane

Avatar n tn Why do you wait a year to prescribe topical treatment after Accutane? What skin care regime do you recommend? Do you prescribe antibiotics if the Accutane doesn't perform well? It has been difficult to get rationale for Accutane treatment. Thank you for your advice...
Avatar m tn I never had any of the depression problems that some associate with accutane. I need some advice..I know the pain he is enduring every day at school and I want to help him..is accutane the answer?
Avatar n tn I have had a problem with acne all my life and took a course of Accutane in my early twenties. I was acne free for 10 years, but then it came back and I developed tiny bumps under my eyes that my dermatologist said were syringoma (after a year of treating it as acne with retin-a and antibiotics). As usual, the antibiotics and retin-a did not do anything to treat my acne problems, so I have begun a new course of Accutane.
Avatar m tn Other necessary precautions are to avoid exposure to UV rays, avoid too much alcohol, and not to take tetracycline antibiotics whilst on Accutane or for 5 weeks afterwards. Female Accutane patients must use two forms of contraception whilst on Accutane and for 5 weeks afterwards. Male patients do not need to abstain from unprotected sex but must not donate blood in case it is given to a pregnant women.
Avatar n tn You can also treat acne by cleaning your face regularly, using skincare products, apply antibacterial topical medications. With the help of the doctor, the treatment of oral antibiotics, contraceptive pills, retinoids, cortisone injections, chemical peels and laser treatment can be your choices. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn My son has severe acne. He tried antibiotics to no avail. Now his doctor has him on topical accutane and another topical application. He is having severe flare ups and when he applies the accutane it burns. He's fed up with this. Any thoughts? i will call his doctor, of course, but am wondering if you have any ideas.
Avatar f tn I started having pimples when i just turned 16 . Mostly on my forehead and occasionally on my cheeks . Used to control them with face washes and topicals. After 6 months my forehead cleared up but during that time period i had minor breakouts now and then on my cheeks but they mostly cleared up . After that i started getting a lot of pimples on my cheeks so the dermatologist put me on antibiotics for 3-4 months.
Avatar m tn I am 34 and never had any issues with my skin until I was 29ish. It started as just breakouts on my forehead. I have gone to several dermatologists and have been on a laundry list of antibiotics and tropical’s, none of which did anything to cure or resolve the problem. (if I was to list the antibiotics/tropical’s I have tried it would consume this entire post) As a result of being on all the antibiotics a biopsy confirmed I developed Pityrosporum Folliculitis on my arms.
Avatar m tn I am currently in my fourth month of Accutane and have had very severe joint pains along with the common side effects. There was even a time when I worked a seven hour shift hosting at a restaurant and went home in so much pain from running around I got sick. My doctor never told me about that effect! Be sure to bring it up with your doctor if you are an athlete.
Avatar m tn t entirely perfect, in which case you and your daughter may need to recalibrate your expectations. Maybe treatments with oral and external antibiotics should be considered, since these may help in ways they didn't before Accutane was given. I think these are the kinds of questions you should discuss with your dermatlogist. There aren't to my knowledge special "cutting-edge" treatments (laser, for instnace) that are worth placing special hopes on. Take care. Dr.
Avatar f tn It seems to me that there are some similarities between this antibiotic and Accutane. Maybe not as severe side effects but the overall impression I am getting is that Accutane is more effective and if closely monitored, safer. Is this true? My doctor didnt give me the impression that there was much I needed to be worried about. All I was told was to take it with a full glass of water 2x a day. Are there severe side effects that I need to worry about while taking this antibiotic?
Avatar n tn 20% of Accutane patients require a second or third course. You must wait 8 weeks between courses since acne can continue to clear during this time. If Retin-A does cause irritation try a gentler synthetic topical retinoid such as Differin (adapalene 0.1%) as this is very effective and generally well tolerated. See the Acne forum for more advice. Eloise.
Avatar n tn It really can mess with your head, but everyone is different, especially it seems, with accutane. Moreover, no, I don't think my side effects were a result of my teen and college years of experimenting. Though that could be argued, the fact remains that I have not had any similar episodes since my treatment, and had none before.
Avatar f tn She is currently on Bactrim and due to go back to Dermatologist tomorrow with suggestion of starting Accutane. She woke up with this acne in mid-December and began taking Vyvanse a few weeks before. Could there be any correlation? I don't want to jump into Accutane if Vyvanse could be causing it but she is so self-conscious.
Avatar n tn You may be considered for Accutane if you have experienced relapse or failure after trying 2 different oral antibiotics, topical treatments and an anti-androgen contraceptive pill (female patients only). Accutane must be taken for at least 16 weeks and provides a long term remission from acne in 80% of cases. It has many potential side effects but this must be balanced against the fact it can help people with severe nodular or cystic acne. Hope this is helpful, Eloise.
Avatar f tn There are different forms of Accutane. Nephew started with Accutane and it didn't help after 6 months. My sister sent him to another dermatologist and she said, "No, you need on a different form of Accutane." It worked. Was on it for 1 year and has the best complex now. Ask about the different forms of Accutane.
Avatar n tn Steroid rosacea is possible. I suggest stopping all steroids, by cream or by mouth. Topical antibiotics like metronidazole may help. If you weren't on Accutane, oral doxycycline might be useful, but you can't take that while taking Accutane (which may itself help if you finish off the course and don't use steroids any more.) This rash may take some time to heal, but it should in the end go away completely. Milk and food have nothing to do with it that I can think of. Best. Dr.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn The first starting in Aug of 2006, and the 2nd in Aug of 2007. My question has less to do with acne and more to do with a skin disorder that only surfaced after using the tane. Shortly after my 1st course of tane I developed a case of scalp folliculitis. It dissapeared completely during my 2nd course of tane. To my surprise the scalp folliculitis has returned even after the 2nd course of tane. It is mild, and mostly constrained to the temporal area.
Avatar f tn and advised me that I would not be able to take many oral antibiotics because I was taking accutane. She also said the best thing to do is to continue washing my face with mild soaps like "dove" and warm water. However, I am scared to use any "soapy" materials with a scent. My questions are 1.
Avatar f tn Till then follow the treatment that has been prescribed to you and use Accutane only under medical guidance. Avoid going out in the sun while taking Accutane. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn said not to worry about the results he just wants me to be checked out by a specialist to see about the Accutane or stronger antibiotics. But still when your tests read "Abnormal" you still worry. Other important info: I have been on and off Minocycline 100mg since may of last year Thanks for your time!

COMPLETE MESS!! Now the SOLUTION i have found!
Avatar n tn He had been on antibiotics for 2 years combined with topical prescriptions and also Nicomide. He is a strong competative athlete. He has been complaining of back/hip pain. I am so worried about him being on this medication. There are so many reported side effects with this, I wonder what the percentage of people experience these side effects. Why would his back be hurting. What exactly is the Claravis doing to his back?
