Common Questions and Answers about Accutane vs roaccutane

accutane

Avatar n tn It is not true that you can only take 2 courses of Roaccutane (Accutane in the US) per lifetime, and it is most certainly not true that it takes 6 months off your life expectancy. My only hesitation about your taking this drug again is that the condition may return once again in a couple of years, and you can't keep taking it over and over. You therefore ought to talk with your doctor about options--antibiotics, for instance--that may not have worked for you in the past but may do so now.
Avatar f tn Is this documented that Accutane does cause premature epiphyseal closure? If so why is this drug being prescribed and why isn't this on the long list of side effects. My son was on this and he has not grown since, or while taking it. He was just past his 14th birthday when he took it. His acne was severe and it is also now back. It did clear up for a short time. He is only 5, 5. I started typing in about accutane and growth and have come up with a long list of concerncs about growth.
Avatar n tn Hi, just finished roaccutane treatment last month and took a medical exam yesterday and they found out that I'm anemic? is this a serious problem? I'm really scared. What do i need to know now? what is the type of anemia caused by taking roaccutane? Thank You in advance!
Avatar n tn im into my 5th week of roaccatane and my back is killing me unbearable pain it makes me cry i feel i will have to stop even though i dont want to can you help please This discussion is related to mistakes commited with Roaccutane... a question on Accutane and pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I had to stop taking accutane halfway through my treatment. I was 10 weeks into the course. I had to stop for 5 weeks due to elevated enzymes. It is now safe to resume treatment. Does the break in treatment mean that I will have to restart the whole course? My derm says that I should be able to resume the course at the 10-week mark. I am worried that the accutane will not be effective due to the 5 week break in the middle of the treatment. I would be grateful for your opinion on this. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I had the same problem with blood being discharged from my penis 10 years ago while I was on accutane for about 5 months. The best way to stop this is to stop taking accutane. At the time, the doctors immediately advised me to stop taking the medication. It can damage your urine flow. Today, I sometimes have extra urine leakage after urinating. I believe this to be one of the long term affects of taking accutane.
Avatar m tn I have taken a single course of roaccutane for 6months but with low doses and i have stopped this medictation 2years ago and thank god i have no problems with my digestive system but i have read alot about the IBS & IBD and that they are linked to accutane and that any accutane taker will develop IBS or IBD this is true??? and if what can i do to prevent this??
Avatar m tn Please, could somebody help me. On the 2nd of July i stopped taking Roaccutane, today is the 13th of July and i started feeling sick and my period never came so i used a pregnancy test. Said positive. then another one...positive, and the third even said that the pregnancy has been for 1-2 weeks. I must have been still taking the roaccutane for the last day or so. Is it absolutely 100% harmful, am i in a high risk zone of bringing up a child to this world deformed? Please, help me!
Avatar n tn My last mentration started on 8 June. I took my last Roaccutane 20mg on 12 June. I had sex on 15 June & 18 June. My period never came on 21 July. 14 July confirmed pregnancy. Avatar f tn I was on accutane when I was a teenager, I am now 26 and have been acne free for years. Sudenly I started to break out again. Does accutane stop working years after taking it? Can I take it again?
Avatar n tn As usual, the antibiotics and retin-a did not do anything to treat my acne problems, so I have begun a new course of Accutane. Immediately after staring the Accutane, I noticed the tiny bumps under my eyes were lessening. After a month they were completely gone. Now, my dermatologist is second guessing her diagnosis of syringoma for she does not think they would go away so quickly with the Accutane. She now thinks they were just cysts. What do you think?
Avatar n tn In 2004 I took a course of Roaccutane for acne and noticed some thinning after the course finished. I was told that this was a known side effect, but that the hair would grow back. It has been over four years!!! My hair is uniformly thinned out across the entire scalp. I have seen an Endocrinologist who says that there are no hormonal issues - my Testosterone levels are in the low end of the acceptability range. The hair loss is a BIG HUGE issue for me.
Avatar n tn She also has a history of severe acne when younger-treated twice with Roaccutane-and this has recurred, but not too severely. Also-she is on a contraceptive for severe PMT with a cycle every 3 months.

Avatar m tn We have always tried to be careful not to have oral sex while I have a sore. She is on Roaccutane for an unrelated skin condition - side effects include drying and thinning of oral/vaginal mucosa. Recently, her Roaccutane dose was increased. Last week she started to experience vaginal irritation, muscle aches, and cracked lips, which we put down to Roaccutane side effects.

Avatar n tn Hi. Oral Isotretinoin (also branded as Accutane/Roaccutane) is the most effective acne treatment available, with 80% of patients experiencing a long-term remission from acne after one course of treatment lasting 16 to 24 weeks. It is normal to experience a temporary worsening of acne ("Initial breakout") during the first few weeks. This is a common side effect and shows your medicine is working.
Avatar m tn Cheilitis is associated with many conditions from Vitamin B12 deficiency, iron deficiency anemia, be a symptom of allergies.can also be caused by taking the (retinoid) drug Isotretinoin (brand name Roaccutane). Applying protective paraffin-based ointment (such as Vaseline) or lip balms to the lips is normally very effective. Also take Vitamin B supplements. If nothing works you can have a biopsy done to find out the cause. ref:http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn ) is common when starting Roaccutane and may also occur when the dosage is increased. This is because unseen pimples come to the surface as the medicine begins to work. Although it is frustrating it is an expected side effect and shows the drug is working. I took Roaccutane in the UK and was not offered anything to lessen this initial outbreak. Some MedHelp members in other countries have told me they were prescribed Prednisone during this temporary worsening of acne.
Avatar n tn Hi. Peri-oral dermatitis responds well to oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline or minocycline. It is better to persevere with one antibiotic for a fair trial rather than switching to another antibiotic too soon. Acne responds very slowly to oral antibiotics so be patient. You may need repeat prescriptions for as long as you are prone to acne. Roaccutane is usually reserved for cystic acne and it may increase the redness associated with peri-oral dermatitis.
