Common Questions and Answers about Accutane vitamins

accutane

Avatar n tn Anyone here get their Crohn's after taking Accutane for acne ? Apparently an association has been found and some lawsuits are being successful. I got my first symptoms about two months after finishing the drug cycle. Just curious if anyone else experienced this with Accutane ?
Avatar n tn I just started my first dose of Accutane today. I am just wondering if it is a good idea to keep working out 6 days a week? will I gain any weight being on Accutane? Will there be any long term side affects? I read one of the side effects could be hearing voices in your head, if that happens does that mean I will hear them forever once I stopped taking the meds? Should I eat anything with vitamin A? and if I only have mild acne but have never had clear skin since grade 7 should I still take it?
Avatar n tn I took accutane for about 3-4 months, but I've been off of it for over a year. Before I took accutane, I was constantly wet - I would actually have to change underwear once or twice a day. I had an extremely high libido and orgasmed quickly. While on accutane, if my boyfriend and I would try to have sex, it would be so dry it felt like sandpaper and I would end up convulsing with tears it was so painful and frustrating. I thought it would change...
Avatar m tn I have been taking accutane for 7 months now. 20 mg first month, 40 next, then 80 which is my current dose. I have a predicted one more month to go(and it has been helping). A few months ago I noticed my hair was getting thinner. I asked my doctor about it and he said he did not know anything about accutane causing hair loss. I have researched it and found that it does. I was just wondering if it is in my case.
Avatar n tn I am Using Retin-a-Micro-but it does not seem to be helping. can it be from a lack of vitamins or minerals?
408901 tn?1274687198 I was on Soriatane which is similar to Accutane, but the difference is W/Accutane you must be off it for 1 mo. to get pg. For Soriatane it takes 3 YEARS to get out of your system. I got on it at 17 or so, and am 21 now. It was just about the 3 yr. mark when I found out I was pregnant. that was 2 1/2mo. ago. My skin condition is similar to Excema or Psoriasis, but different too. Its called EHK(it's hereditary and my baby has a %50/50 chance of being born w/it).
Avatar n tn I was finally placed on Accutane with positive results while taking the drug, however six months after completing treatment, the acne returned again. A year later I resumed taking Accutane, unfortunately, with the same results. At 18, I began a homeopathic course of treatment which consisted of taking a variety of vitamins each day. But, I saw no changes in my skin. My hormone levels were also tested, and came back within the normal range.
Avatar n tn I had typical acne from an early age (11 years old) and received Roacutane (same as Accutane I think) when I was 15 years old. It worked a treat but 9months after I had finished treatment the acne returned. Over the years I have been on 3 treatments of Roacutane for about 18months each with the same result about 9 months later.
Avatar f tn I know you would like a definitive answer to your questions but the simple truth of the matter is no one can say for sure. Doctors still do not know everything that it can do. But if you go to: http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-6661-Accutane+Oral.aspx?drugid=6661&drugname=Accutane+Oral&pagenumber=6 it can tell you what side effect can happen while you are taking Accutane. Me personally I don't think it is related to the Accutane, just because it has been over 3 years.
Avatar n tn I have had acne all of my life. At 26 I did two rounds of Accutane, which cleared my T-zone and chest/back acne. Now I have persistant and large acne on my cheeks and jawline, including cystic acne. The acne is ever present and not just once a month. My current dermo (not the one who proscribed Accutane) tells me that it's hormonal (I believe this) and that I will just have to deal with it for the rest of my life (I don't want to accept this).
Avatar n tn I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. I am just uncertain because I haven't been on it very long, but I am already experiencing dry lips, so I suppose I could be experiencing other side effects already, too.
Avatar f tn Hi. Accutane increases the risk of liver problems so avoid too much alcohol whilst taking this medicine. Eloise.
Avatar m tn Take accutane, i'm 17 now and went on it when I was 16 and it worked wonders and keeps tje acne away, I had moderate acne and oily skin too....I play Major Junior hockey and it didn't affect my play in a negative bodily way, it boosted my confidence if anything!......I did a 4 month treatment of it on a lower dose so I would reccommend that, higher doses are for sever cases like grade 4 or between 3 and 4.....
Avatar m tn Other necessary precautions are to avoid exposure to UV rays, avoid too much alcohol, and not to take tetracycline antibiotics whilst on Accutane or for 5 weeks afterwards. Female Accutane patients must use two forms of contraception whilst on Accutane and for 5 weeks afterwards. Male patients do not need to abstain from unprotected sex but must not donate blood in case it is given to a pregnant women.
Avatar n tn 17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. She is back on the pill for almost 3 months and it is not working. Why?
Avatar n tn My dermatologist decided it was time to give accutane a try. I did a 7 month course and reached the target cumulative dose of 120 mg/kg. I did not have much of an initial breakout, was pretty much clear for months 3 to 6. Near the end of my course I started to get a few zits. It has now been three weeks post-accutane, and I am starting to get more and more whiteheads. Not the big inflamed whiteheads I used to get but it looks like things are returning.
Avatar m tn weight loss ( I was up to 160 right before accutane, lost 20-25 pounds in less than 2 months right after I stopped accutane, and am down to 120 currently) I feel like I have no muscle or fat on me. I'm always hungry but I can't gain a pound.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been on accutane for about alittle over a month. My dose is 20mg per day. I noticed about my fifth week using it that I developed a rash on the top of both my hands. It looks like little dots/pimples. They don't itch or burn. I thought it was ezema but I don't know. Is this a side effect from the accutane? Does anyone know how to treat this rash? I never had this before.
Avatar n tn I am 20 years old I was using accutane for 6 months, I was supposed to have a small surgery in my pelvis while on the drug but my doctor told me to wait and he explained that no surgery should be performed because the drug does indeed interfere with wound healing in fact he recommended to get the surgery 6 months after I have been off the drug but you should definitely ask her doctor/surgeon about it and get a better opinion ...wish you and your daughter the best.
Avatar n tn By all means discuss this with your dermatologist and share your frustration. There are other options besides Accutane. If you do take Accutane, you will need regular blood tests to check your liver and your cholesterol and triglycerides. You will also need to register with the Federal iPledge program, or else no pharmacy can dispense the medication. When Accutane is given for the kind of acne you say you have, it may clear things up, only to have the acne return several months later.
Avatar f tn Tomorrow will mark day 4 that I am late on my period. I took Accutane from approximately July 20th-August 20th, then got off of it for about a week, and got back on it around August 28th. I was supposed to have my period on Sept. 3rd, and have never been late before. I've been a day early on a few occasions, but never 4 days late. I was wondering if anyone knows if Accutane could effect my menstrual cycle. Thank you.
Avatar n tn I am a 27 year old male. I have taken accutane 3 times, ,when I was 15,17 and 20. I have tried every topical treatment out there and nothing seems to work. I really only get it around the chin and mouth area. I have read about taking Vitamin B5...I am wondering if you know anything about this and if it is safe? And if not, do you have any recommendations for somthing that may work. I have tried cutting out dairy and I would try cutting out caffeine but I am a coffee drinker so its rough.
