Common Questions and Answers about Accutane surgery

accutane

Avatar n tn I am 20 years old I was using accutane for 6 months, I was supposed to have a small surgery in my pelvis while on the drug but my doctor told me to wait and he explained that no surgery should be performed because the drug does indeed interfere with wound healing in fact he recommended to get the surgery 6 months after I have been off the drug but you should definitely ask her doctor/surgeon about it and get a better opinion ...wish you and your daughter the best.
Avatar f tn Is there a consensus among dermatologists regarding the wait time for getting elective surgery after completing a course of Accutane? Is there a blood test that can be done at the six month mark to ensure the Accutane is completely out of my system so I can proceed with the surgery without waiting a full year? Twelve months seems a bit excessive to me and I'm curious as to where this 12-month recommendation is coming from since the official iPledge booklet says "at least 6 months.
Avatar m tn I was 47 at the time of my first cataract surgery. Was any of this related to Accutane? Maybe. Just wanted others to know about possible risks. Accutane is produced now under different companies after the Parent patent expired. Plus they were getting to many lawsuits against them. Research before you take.
Avatar n tn We never heard that some people who used accutane also developed keloids. He never had then before using accutane. He says now he wishes they never put him on it and he just dealt with having the acne he had back then. I feel bad for him. He lets it effect his life. He sees it as worse then others would see it but there is not convincing him of this. He tried the shots. They didn't do anything. Did the laser work for you? Keep positive.
20910642 tn?1627445346 Hi community, I've been suffering from acne for the past 10 years. I've only discovered about Accutane since 5 years ago and it has "cured" my outbreaks. Nothing else worked for me, as a result, scars have already formed. 95% of my scars are located on my cheeks and temples. 99% of the scars are "rolling" scars. I'm currently 25 years old and male, and I've been 1.5 years off Accutane and any oral medication for treating acne. My acne is now under control.
Avatar n tn Recently I went to a new dermatologist who diagnosed me with Acne Inversa, however, he stated it was curable and prescribed me Accutane. Upon further reading about Acne Inversa, I found out that not only was Acne Inversa incurable, but also very difficult to treat. Recently the disease has seemingly spread past my buttocks area onto the back of my thighs and my waistband area. 1) What is the current and most effective treatment for Acne Inversa?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with a primary brain tumor in June 2008 and underwent surgery to remove it. It was the size of an apple and diagnosed a grade 2 tumor. It grew back in September 2008 and that's when i began rigorous radiation and oral chemotherapy (Temozolomide). My recent MRI has showed the regrowth of the tumor to be "gone." The plan is to take the Temozolomide for 2 years along with Accutane (which helps the oral chemotherapy work better).
Avatar n tn I have been on 40mg/day of Accutane for six weeks. Of course, I've had the usual side effects (dryness, depression, lethargy.) My main problem now is severe joint pain. I lift weights 5x per week. I don't want to stop working out, but my right elbow and both shoulders are killing me! Has anyone had experience with this and can you recommend medicine or treatment for the joint pain?
Avatar n tn I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. I am just uncertain because I haven't been on it very long, but I am already experiencing dry lips, so I suppose I could be experiencing other side effects already, too.
Avatar f tn Hi. Accutane increases the risk of liver problems so avoid too much alcohol whilst taking this medicine. Eloise.
Avatar m tn Take accutane, i'm 17 now and went on it when I was 16 and it worked wonders and keeps tje acne away, I had moderate acne and oily skin too....I play Major Junior hockey and it didn't affect my play in a negative bodily way, it boosted my confidence if anything!......I did a 4 month treatment of it on a lower dose so I would reccommend that, higher doses are for sever cases like grade 4 or between 3 and 4.....
Avatar m tn Other necessary precautions are to avoid exposure to UV rays, avoid too much alcohol, and not to take tetracycline antibiotics whilst on Accutane or for 5 weeks afterwards. Female Accutane patients must use two forms of contraception whilst on Accutane and for 5 weeks afterwards. Male patients do not need to abstain from unprotected sex but must not donate blood in case it is given to a pregnant women.
Avatar n tn 17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. She is back on the pill for almost 3 months and it is not working. Why?
Avatar n tn My dermatologist decided it was time to give accutane a try. I did a 7 month course and reached the target cumulative dose of 120 mg/kg. I did not have much of an initial breakout, was pretty much clear for months 3 to 6. Near the end of my course I started to get a few zits. It has now been three weeks post-accutane, and I am starting to get more and more whiteheads. Not the big inflamed whiteheads I used to get but it looks like things are returning.
Avatar m tn weight loss ( I was up to 160 right before accutane, lost 20-25 pounds in less than 2 months right after I stopped accutane, and am down to 120 currently) I feel like I have no muscle or fat on me. I'm always hungry but I can't gain a pound.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been on accutane for about alittle over a month. My dose is 20mg per day. I noticed about my fifth week using it that I developed a rash on the top of both my hands. It looks like little dots/pimples. They don't itch or burn. I thought it was ezema but I don't know. Is this a side effect from the accutane? Does anyone know how to treat this rash? I never had this before.
Avatar m tn For acne, I was prescribe 6 months of accutane - which did wonders for my facial/body acne. However, in the last couple of years I have struggled with controlling back acne. For sweating, when I was 20 I received botox injections in my forhead and armpits - which worked well. Not amazingly, but helped for sure. I had been getting injections every 6 months.
Avatar n tn By all means discuss this with your dermatologist and share your frustration. There are other options besides Accutane. If you do take Accutane, you will need regular blood tests to check your liver and your cholesterol and triglycerides. You will also need to register with the Federal iPledge program, or else no pharmacy can dispense the medication. When Accutane is given for the kind of acne you say you have, it may clear things up, only to have the acne return several months later.
Avatar f tn Tomorrow will mark day 4 that I am late on my period. I took Accutane from approximately July 20th-August 20th, then got off of it for about a week, and got back on it around August 28th. I was supposed to have my period on Sept. 3rd, and have never been late before. I've been a day early on a few occasions, but never 4 days late. I was wondering if anyone knows if Accutane could effect my menstrual cycle. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I think after researching- I got my symtoms from several courses of Accutane medicine. Which they have pulled from the market. Any one else have the same problems from 10 yrs ago of using Accutane and what did you do to manage the IBS and stomach issues??
Avatar f tn Usually I will wake up with my head throbbing. I was on accutane for about 2 months (60 mg), but stopped over 3 weeks ago and am not finding relief in my symptoms. I went to an opthamologist today and got my eyes checked out. Because of accutane and even my birth control, he was worried about the possibility of pseudotumor cerebri (as my dermatologist was).
