I finished taking accutane about 7 years ago. Now every pimple or mark i get, i get a scar. Its white and slighly raised. My question is, is it possible that accutane could affect your healing and make you prone to scarring permanently? I've heard durning the treatment and a couple years after your skin is thin and sensitive but not permanently. I would appreciate an answer as I am really depressed over this.
I am so worried about him being on this medication. There are so many reported side effects with this, I wonder what the percentage of people experience these side effects. Why would his back be hurting. What exactly is the Claravis doing to his back?

My 14 year old son has severe acne on his face, chest and back. He has been seeing a dermatologist for over a year now. He has tried every over the counter medication out there as well as antibiotics (2 different kinds and several different MGs), 6 different prescription acne creams/gels. They seem to work for a little while then stop. Right now his skin is really bad-his face is covered in large, red bumps with white heads. His back is bad too-but to a lesser degree.
However, this and other side effects wore off as my body got used to the medication. I had no side effects, except for dry lips, from 12 weeks onwards and took Accutane for 24 weeks.
Side effects are generally dose related. Taking Accutane at the recommended dose for 16 to 24 weeks is your son's best hope of a long term remission from acne.
The recommended dose is between 0.5 and 1mg x kg bodyweight per day. So your son should take between 30mg and 60mg per day because he weighs about 60kg.
Discuss with your dermatologist. If you don't want to accept the possiblity of those side effects then don't take the medications. All medications have side effects. Each year several thousand people bleed to death from aspirin. One person's cure is another person's side effect.
The only people that would have you believe that if a side effect occurs the doctor or the pharmaceutical company did something wrong are trial lawyers.
Is this documented that Accutane does cause premature epiphyseal closure? If so why is this drug being prescribed and why isn't this on the long list of side effects. My son was on this and he has not grown since, or while taking it. He was just past his 14th birthday when he took it. His acne was severe and it is also now back. It did clear up for a short time. He is only 5, 5.
I started typing in about accutane and growth and have come up with a long list of concerncs about growth.

Advice for those who are going to take accutane! it might be a wonder drug for some people but also on the other hand it might not work for some. if you are feeling any pains(or side effects) due to the drug. don't neglect them.
My father had severe acne until he took accutane for 3 months at a high dose without recieving any negative side effects, which cleared up 90 percent of the acne. My mother didnt have acne. I am ready to go on accutane, but the thing is that I do submission wrestling. If the accutane permanently damaged my joints or hindered my athletic performance I would be devastated.
My question is, how long should I take accutane and at what dose?
I know exactly how you feel, I used to get wet all the time before accutane. over 2 years later, I still cannot get wet. I don't feel like a woman. I used to leave literally puddles on sheets during sex. Now, it's impossible for me to get wet. I have to use lube and I hate it. I don't feel like a woman. I am so depressed about it. I've been looking online for years to see if there are things to help...I can't find anything except lube. I want to go back to how I was.

I really hope my derm lets me cause I understand all the potential side effects and would really like to do it in the safest means possible but if he doesn't and I do self medicate I would like to know what extra precautions I should take to stay as safe as possible. I did a 6-month course of Accutane several years ago with a different doctor -- in that case, the doctor started me on a low dose to minimize side effects and then eventually took me up to 40 mg. Side effects were tolerable, and my skin remained clear for a few years afterward.
Given my weight, I'm a little worried about side effects at this dose.
Accutane has many side effects the more common side effect is patch loss of hair. once medication has stopped , most people regain hair loss and other side effects. i would consult with the doctor and tell him whas going on.
jus t to let you know my story, i was a life long sufferer, i am 33 years old now, very oily skin and very pale. I have tried everyting from over the counter to medication nothing has worked. i am 33 up until this january i was losing hope, i was about to try accutane.
The accutane reduced the cysts but made my skin very dry, particularly on my forehead and lips. I stopped using accutane due to the side effects and basically gave up on my skin. For the next two years my forehead continued to have very dry, dead looking skin on it and my skin had moderate-severe acne. I am now out of college and over the past year, I tried using an exfoliating cleanser along with duac gel and finacea as well as doxycycline as an antibiotic.

I am coming off my 2nd course of accutane. The first course I was on 80 mg per day. for about 4 months before the mental side effects made me stop. I was having weird thoughts and could tell I was not myself. The second course lasted about 5 months, same dosage less side effects. IT DID CLEAR MY ACNE, better than any antibiotic or other popular or unpopular treatment. I had tried them all, diets, over-the-counter meds, etc.
Accutane has alot of varied side-effects, but some people don't have adverse reactions. my girlfriend had taken accutane and didn't have any stomach reactions but part of the accutane contract requires birth control regardless of activity. But I know my gf's opinion i: " Accutane is great" It worked for her really well for acne, and she didn't exhibit negative side effects from it.
