Avatar m tn Hello, It is true that accutane has plenty of side effects. It may cause cheilitis and dry lips but thinning of skin and hair loss are less frequent side effects. From your symptoms first of all hypothyroidism should be ruled out. The second possibility to be ruled out is of vitamin D deficiency.
Avatar n tn alopecia , bruising, dry mouth, dry skin, flushing, fragility of skin, hair abnormalities, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation, pruritus, abnormal wound healing ( ref: http://www.rxlist.com/accutane-drug.htm). It would be best to inform your doctor about this for proper management. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn but I wouls honestly consider taking your daughter off the Accutane. The side effects can be so horrible and are now related to a lot of gastrointestinal issues long term. My husband is a prime example...never had an upset stomach in his life and now all of a sudden he can't eat anything without tummy trouble and he's only 24. There are other options and unless absolutly NOTHING else has worked it is the last resort.
Avatar f tn It made my skin around the eyes so dry that my wrinkles show up evey more so than before. Also, the skin around my eyes is so sensitive now that even applying moisturizer makes it burn. My face became dryer with slight flakiness which I believe is a result of using this retinol product. Is the skin under my eyes permanently damaged or is there a product I can use to reverse this? Do you think I should see a dermatologist?
Avatar n tn The accutane reduced the cysts but made my skin very dry, particularly on my forehead and lips. I stopped using accutane due to the side effects and basically gave up on my skin. For the next two years my forehead continued to have very dry, dead looking skin on it and my skin had moderate-severe acne. I am now out of college and over the past year, I tried using an exfoliating cleanser along with duac gel and finacea as well as doxycycline as an antibiotic.

Avatar n tn m terrified that it will not go away after stopping taking the medication. Dry skin is the only other side effect I suffer from. I'm only 17 so I hope that this does not stay with me forever. I think i'm going to ask my dermatologist about it and maybe she will give me a way to help with the problem.
Avatar m tn Discuss with your dermatologist. If you don't want to accept the possiblity of those side effects then don't take the medications. All medications have side effects. Each year several thousand people bleed to death from aspirin. One person's cure is another person's side effect. The only people that would have you believe that if a side effect occurs the doctor or the pharmaceutical company did something wrong are trial lawyers.
Avatar m tn Artificial tears are recommended throughout the treatment with isotretionoin as first line of prevention of infection. Dry eyes and other eyes-related side effects rarely persist after discontinuation of therapy. Possibility of developing longer lasting ophthalmic (eye) problems has to be estimated by an ophthalmologist and will affect decision about further treatment with systemic retinoids. FYI - Systemic retinoids (such as isotretinoin) should not be first line of acne therapy.

Avatar n tn Hi. Rashes and reddened skin are common side effects of Accutane therapy. The best hand cream I used whilst on Accutane was Elizabeth Arden 8 hour hand cream. They also make an 8 hour lip cream which I used for dry lips whilst on Accutane. Eloise.
Avatar f tn Is this documented that Accutane does cause premature epiphyseal closure? If so why is this drug being prescribed and why isn't this on the long list of side effects. My son was on this and he has not grown since, or while taking it. He was just past his 14th birthday when he took it. His acne was severe and it is also now back. It did clear up for a short time. He is only 5, 5. I started typing in about accutane and growth and have come up with a long list of concerncs about growth.
Avatar m tn Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) Ulcerative colitis Crohn’s disease Depression (and other psychiatric disorders) Suicide Birth Defects "A new study out shows Accutane linked to Celiac's disease.
Avatar n tn I am so worried about him being on this medication. There are so many reported side effects with this, I wonder what the percentage of people experience these side effects. Why would his back be hurting. What exactly is the Claravis doing to his back? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/241721'>Accutane- side effect - joint ache</a>.
Avatar m tn My 14 year old son has severe acne on his face, chest and back. He has been seeing a dermatologist for over a year now. He has tried every over the counter medication out there as well as antibiotics (2 different kinds and several different MGs), 6 different prescription acne creams/gels. They seem to work for a little while then stop. Right now his skin is really bad-his face is covered in large, red bumps with white heads. His back is bad too-but to a lesser degree.
Avatar m tn ve been taking Accutane for the last four months and one of the most common side effects is drying. A month ago I noticed a lot of redness and dryness in my groin area and the urethra of my penis. My dermatologist told me that it wasn't anything for me to worry about and to just apply moisturizer to the dry areas. This morning I noticed my penis was very red and that there are white spots on the head.
Avatar m tn What you are having are side effects of the drug Accutane and when you are taking Accutane, you should avoid going out in the sun. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn My father had severe acne until he took accutane for 3 months at a high dose without recieving any negative side effects, which cleared up 90 percent of the acne. My mother didnt have acne. I am ready to go on accutane, but the thing is that I do submission wrestling. If the accutane permanently damaged my joints or hindered my athletic performance I would be devastated. My question is, how long should I take accutane and at what dose?
Avatar n tn I am experiencing all of the negative side effects; cracked lips, dry skin and eyes, sunburn, etc. Keep on taking it. Results will show soon!!! -Megan Penguin.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know about the scarring after-effects of accutane? I've read several reports of scarring left after it's use. I'm sure that scars are to be expected, as with any open wound, but I don't know if these reports are by anyone with abnormalities with healing/scarring. Here is the situation... I have mild, maybe slightly moderate acne. I get keloids on other parts of my body, but thankfully not my face. I still get abnormal facial scarring though.
Avatar f tn I eventually went on Accutane - I have VERY mixed feelings about this med - it DID get rid of the acne. . .but the dry skin, dry eyes, bleeding lips, etc. were very painful. In addition, it also has damaging effects on the liver and kidneys as well - my once very low cholesterol shot up about 200 pts. I now suffer from severe arthritis which I believe I can attribute to the accutane.
Avatar f tn I researched and try lots of things (take accutane again was the last thing on my head) , the last was an chemical peel who leave my skin a little thin and dry. But that´s ok, my skin stayed clean for almost one year. One years latter, the breakouts returned. And so, whithout other alternatives and persuaded by my dermatologist, i acepted to make other cicle of accutane. I only endured ONE MONTH. I felt my skin burns, so red, just touch my skin to stain it! I gived up.
Avatar m tn Im a 27 year old male from Sweden who have been sick for perhaps all my life, or since i was very young. I have been going to the doctors for almost 10 years and im still undiagnosed, pretty much all of my tests have been normal. I recently found this forum and decided to share my situation. I divide my symptoms into 3 sections: Appearance - I look ill, pale and sick. My skin color changes very easily depending on what type of lighting there is.
Avatar m tn However it should be used under medical supervision and there are many side effects. Accutane increases the sensitivity of skin to sunlight and also causes hyperpigmentation as its side effect. Usually it goes away after you stop the medicine but it goes away very gradually and may take several months to go away. In some cases it is irreversible and may not go away.
Avatar f tn Hello, Since Accutane causes delayed wound healing and other side effects on skin like increased fragility of skin and hyper and hypopigmentation, so it is advisable to get cryotherapy done after you have completed the course of Accutane. I sincerely hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
