Is this documented that Accutane does cause premature epiphyseal closure? If so why is this drug being prescribed and why isn't this on the long list of side effects. My son was on this and he has not grown since, or while taking it. He was just past his 14th birthday when he took it. His acne was severe and it is also now back. It did clear up for a short time. He is only 5, 5.

I am 20 years old I was using accutane for 6 months, I was supposed to have a small surgery in my pelvis while on the drug but my doctor told me to wait and he explained that no surgery should be performed because the drug does indeed interfere with wound healing in fact he recommended to get the surgery 6 months after I have been off the drug but you should definitely ask her doctor/surgeon about it and get a better opinion ...wish you and your daughter the best.
accutane is a bad drug. worse than the zits. it has many horrible side effects, i agree with barfer. i was on it while young, it can cause bad stuff, it dries up the joints, causes your hair to fall out etc... YOU WILL BE FINE when it is out of system time will heal....and as jsgeare says therapy is key. i am not trivializing severe skin problems but if you dont have big honkin puss oozing boils on your face and back. your doc should not put you on accutane.

That's poorly written documentation and they don't give any details of the study. It says "On June 8, 2013: 26,700 people reported side effects when taking Accutane. Among them, 47 people (0.18%) have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis"....... It doesn't indicate that the Accutane "caused" the Hashimoto's; it simply said that 47 people had it...... AND 47 out of 26, 700 is a pretty small number.
Maybe not as severe side effects but the overall impression I am getting is that Accutane is more effective and if closely monitored, safer. Is this true? My doctor didnt give me the impression that there was much I needed to be worried about. All I was told was to take it with a full glass of water 2x a day. Are there severe side effects that I need to worry about while taking this antibiotic?
My 14 year old son has severe acne on his face, chest and back. He has been seeing a dermatologist for over a year now. He has tried every over the counter medication out there as well as antibiotics (2 different kinds and several different MGs), 6 different prescription acne creams/gels. They seem to work for a little while then stop. Right now his skin is really bad-his face is covered in large, red bumps with white heads. His back is bad too-but to a lesser degree.
Hives often indicate a serious drug reaction. The post-Accutane period is the most unknown. Many have no backlash side effects and that's great, but for others sometimes things start going down-hill and sometimes this is when side effects decide to emerge that would traditionally emerge during treatment (e.g. joint pain, flushing, redness, rosacea, depression, chronic fatigue, Seb derm, hair loss.. even teeth breaking).
Accutane has alot of varied side-effects, but some people don't have adverse reactions. my girlfriend had taken accutane and didn't have any stomach reactions but part of the accutane contract requires birth control regardless of activity. But I know my gf's opinion i: " Accutane is great" It worked for her really well for acne, and she didn't exhibit negative side effects from it.

First of all, please remember that the effects and side effects of accutane will last only for 6 months. So you don't need to bother about it too much.
Side effects like dryness of eyes occur only while you are accutane and not after many months of withdrawal of drug.
The flushing in your case may be due to acne rosacea which could concomitantly occur with acne vulgaris or after many months.
Accutane was pulled off the market in 2009. I find it alarming that this drug is back on the market again. Accutane side effects include Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) which include Accutane induced Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis; Having your colon removed; Severe depression or suicidal tendencies; Heart attack, stroke, seizure or lowered blood cell count.
And there are many other side effects of Accutane mentioned in many comments online and includes joint pain.
I have been on Accutane ( Claravis) on 40 mg for a month, I was upped to 60 mg but just went back down do to side effects. My vision has gotten blurry in the distance and I recently visited my optometrist and told him this and that I was on the drug. He took a paper with all the visual side effects of Accutane and checked me for everything even threw in a glaucoma exam and tear producing test and said everything was normal.
As a patient with MS, you can expect to have the same risks and side effects as other people on accutane, and these side effects and risks need to be discussed with you by your dermatologist before you start taking it. However, I would also run this by your neurologist who manages your MS just to make sure he/she feels that accutane may affect your MS in some way.

Accutane is an isotretinoin, may indeed cause such rash (including facial erythema, seborrhea, and eczema) as a side effect. Effects are usually dose related ( dependent on the dosage applied). Aside from the rash, other observed side effects include: alopecia , bruising, dry mouth, dry skin, flushing, fragility of skin, hair abnormalities, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation, pruritus, abnormal wound healing ( ref: http://www.rxlist.com/accutane-drug.htm).
Hi, I actually just took 5 months of accutane and finished a couple months ago. You are fine to keep working out, nothing wrong with that. You shouldn't gain weight either. And there shouldn't be long term side effects. It's rare that you will have major side effects, or hear voices. There are some studies that say some people kill themselves while on this medicine, but if you don't get depressed then you have nothing to worry about.
I am reading about some of the side effects and it is scaring me. Could I develop some of these serious side effects, my eczema has been pretty bad since then, lots of bad flare ups all over my body (is this a direct result of taking the accutane)? I also have very bad gas and my symptoms match that of Irratible bowle syndrome, is this a direct result of the accutane?
