accutane scarring

Does anyone know about the scarring after-effects of accutane? I've read several reports of scarring left after it's use. I'm sure that scars are to be expected, as with any open wound, but I don't know if these reports are by anyone with abnormalities with healing/scarring. Here is the situation... I have mild, maybe slightly moderate acne. I get keloids on other parts of my body, but thankfully not my face. I still get abnormal facial scarring though.

I was not well informed by my dermatologist about what I can expect my scarring to be like during the course of the accutane. She just said that if we stop the acne, we stop the scarring, then several months after we can look into their array of scar treatments.

So are you saying accutane is not causing me to be prone to scarring later in life?

I just got back from the Derm today and he reviewed my skin and he said that my acne redness is scarring.. Now i thought scarring is indentions in the skin? Is it not and that acne redness will fade with time because according to my derm he said that my acne redness is scarring and that the redness wont go away and that theres nothing that can be done about it. He said that i'll have to live with it for the rest of my life and that the only possible treatment for this is laser.

Daughter wants to get a chemical peel for some acne scarring on her facial cheeks. She has been on antibiotics (too harsh on stomach), antibiotic topical cream, retin-A, you name it over the years. We even paid out of pocket for dermabrasion treatments several years ago. She is currently on the form of the Pill as well to help with the acne. There is some scarring, but not severe. She is a young woman and frustrated and wants a solution to this situation.

Other necessary precautions are to avoid exposure to UV rays, avoid too much alcohol, and not to take tetracycline antibiotics whilst on Accutane or for 5 weeks afterwards. Female Accutane patients must use two forms of contraception whilst on Accutane and for 5 weeks afterwards. Male patients do not need to abstain from unprotected sex but must not donate blood in case it is given to a pregnant women.

Hello. I have been on Accutane for the last 5 months. My acne is clearing and I have no new breakouts, however I have lots of red marks where the acne was (post inflamatory hyperpigmentation possibly?)? Anyway, I was just curious if blue light or red light treatment would help, and can I use the light treatment while on Accutane? If not, what else could I do to reduce the appearance of the red marks? The acne is on my chest and is very hard to look at.

I had typical acne from an early age (11 years old) and received Roacutane (same as Accutane I think) when I was 15 years old. It worked a treat but 9months after I had finished treatment the acne returned. Over the years I have been on 3 treatments of Roacutane for about 18months each with the same result about 9 months later.

I just started my sixth (and final) month of Accutane (60 mg/day). Per the information in the iPledge booklet, I should not have "cosmetic procedures" until I've been off of the medication for six months since the medication interferes with the skin's ability to heal which could cause keloid scarring. By all means discuss this with your dermatologist and share your frustration. There are other options besides Accutane. If you do take Accutane, you will need regular blood tests to check your liver and your cholesterol and triglycerides. You will also need to register with the Federal iPledge program, or else no pharmacy can dispense the medication. When Accutane is given for the kind of acne you say you have, it may clear things up, only to have the acne return several months later.

There are different forms of Accutane. Nephew started with Accutane and it didn't help after 6 months. My sister sent him to another dermatologist and she said, "No, you need on a different form of Accutane." It worked. Was on it for 1 year and has the best complex now. Ask about the different forms of Accutane.

Hey, My dermo gave me Retin A cream to go along with my accutane. She said it would help clear up some of the dark spots I had on my skin from the acne. Will this help? What is this stuff usually used for ?

For acne, I was prescribe 6 months of accutane - which did wonders for my facial/body acne. However, in the last couple of years I have struggled with controlling back acne. For sweating, when I was 20 I received botox injections in my forhead and armpits - which worked well. Not amazingly, but helped for sure. I had been getting injections every 6 months.

Just a boil. I have one near my groin too. First got it after puberty sometime. I'm 30, and it's filled up again maybe, I dunno, 4 times since then. Accutane helped me greatly, but I'm left with awful facial scarring. My acne didn't get really bad until my 20s. I see my derm again this month, and I'm sure he'll put me on another course this time. Only agreed to give me the topical stuff last time. My face is awful again, and it's painful.

I have seen a local Derm who said there was no scarring on my scalp and no real skin issues associated with my hair loss. In 2004 I took a course of Roaccutane for acne and noticed some thinning after the course finished. I was told that this was a known side effect, but that the hair would grow back. It has been over four years!!! My hair is uniformly thinned out across the entire scalp.

I have had acne all of my life. At 26 I did two rounds of Accutane, which cleared my T-zone and chest/back acne. Now I have persistant and large acne on my cheeks and jawline, including cystic acne. The acne is ever present and not just once a month. My current dermo (not the one who proscribed Accutane) tells me that it's hormonal (I believe this) and that I will just have to deal with it for the rest of my life (I don't want to accept this).

It is not intended to be given as a first line treatment, and is not indicated for acne occuring before puberty. I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. I am unsure if the migraine could be connected to Accutane, but I did a little research and some instances of migraines have been reported by Accutane users. I am just uncertain because I haven't been on it very long, but I am already experiencing dry lips, so I suppose I could be experiencing other side effects already, too.

Take accutane, i'm 17 now and went on it when I was 16 and it worked wonders and keeps tje acne away, I had moderate acne and oily skin too....I play Major Junior hockey and it didn't affect my play in a negative bodily way, it boosted my confidence if anything!......I did a 4 month treatment of it on a lower dose so I would reccommend that, higher doses are for sever cases like grade 4 or between 3 and 4.....

17 year old daughter having stomach issues, just got a positive test for celiac, has bad acne, derm wants to put her on accutane. I am worried about the accutane and her stomach. Not sure celiac is only cause of stomach aches. Also birth control pill used to control acne, then she went off and it came back worse than ever. She is back on the pill for almost 3 months and it is not working. Why?
